From the Director of Athletics Hurricane Fans, Welcome back for another season of Miami Hurricane Athletics! The start of each new academic year always brings a new sense of excitement and enthusiasm and this fall is no different. Our student-athletes that compete in the fall have been back on campus for almost a month now and I know they are excited to begin their respective 2015-16 athletic seasons. Over the past month, I have had the opportunity to watch several of our teams practice around our facilities and it does not take long to see their passion, energy and commitment on the field of play. Their commitment to excellence is truly inspiring and I simply can’t wait to watch all of our teams compete in the classroom and on the field of competition this fall at The U. The 2015 Miami Football season also brings a great deal of excitement, as our student-athletes will take the field in the newly renovated Sun Life Stadium. Although the renovation process will not be completely finished until the start of the 2016 season, there are still plenty of changes to the facility this year, which will provide fans an experience like never before. Since the conclusion of the 2014 season, construction crews have moved seats 24 feet closer to the field and replaced every seat in the entire stadium. In addition, there are several new and unique club seats, which will provide a college football experience that is among the best in the country. Season tickets to the 2015 Miami Hurricanes football season start for as low as $140 – visit CanesTix.com or call (305) 2842263 for more information. For the latest information on the Miami Hurricanes, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, @MiamiHurricanes, or visit our web site at HurricaneSports.com. I hope you enjoy this month’s magazine as we reflect on the latest Hurricane news and look ahead to another exciting month. Go Canes! Blake James

President Frenk Visits #CanesCamp

The Miami Hurricanes had a special visitor at #CanesCamp on Wednesday as University of Miami President Dr. Julio Frenk spent part of the morning at the Greentree Practice Fields. Dr. Frenk, who is the sixth President of the University of Miami, began his UM Presidency on August 16 and he took time to meet with the Hurricanes prior to Wednesday morning’s practice. Frenk spoke to the Canes before being presented with a team-signed football and jersey and taking in some of the morning practice from the sideline. President Frenk’s visit meant a lot to head coach Al Golden and his team. “The guy has a million things going on,” Golden said. “Students are coming in for orientation. I’m sure he’s meeting staff everyday. I know how difficult transitions can be. For him to take the time to come over here means a lot to athletics and certainly our squad.” Beyond the excitement surrounding President Frenk’s visit to practice, Golden was pleased with the work the Hurricanes put in on Greentree on Wednesday. “They came out with a purpose today,” Golden said. “The defense was physical; I thought the secondary tackled really well. The offense had urgency, we were better with our coordinations, and our tempo was better. I know guys know it’s getting close. I mean you’ve got to make a move right now if you want to make a move. So they’ve got to just take that intention into the scrimmage.” Season tickets to the 2015 Miami Hurricanes football season start for as low as $140 – visit CanesTix.com or call (305) 2842263 for more information.

Two members of the University of Miami track and field program spent the first weekend of August competing internationally. Henri Delauze and Precious Ogunleye traded in Miami’s orange and green for the colors of their native country for a weekend, with Delauze competing for the Bahamas at the Pan American Junior Games and Ogunleye throwing at the Nigerian National Championships. Delauze competed in both the 400m and in the 4x400m relay for the Bahamas at Pan Am Juniors. The rising sophomore earned a spot in the 400m finals when he finished second in Heat 2 of the preliminaries with a time of 47.88 seconds. Delauze then posted a time of 47.90 seconds to place eighth in the 400m final. The talented Bahamian was a key contributor in the 4x400m relay final, running the anchor leg in 46.81 seconds to help the Bahamas finish fourth with a time of 3:10.02. Ogunleye had a successful weekend at the Nigerian National Championships, competing in the hammer throw, discus and shot put. Ogunleye also posted a mark of 14.35m in the shot put, placing fourth. Both Delauze and Ogunleye were impact performers in 2015 for the Hurricanes. As a freshman, Delauze set a UM record in the men’s indoor 600m, moved in third place in school history in the indoor 400m and helped run the fourth-fastest indoor 4x400m relay in school history. The gifted Bahamian also ranks fourth in Miami history in the outdoor 400m and was on the fifth-best outdoor 4x400m relay in school history. Delauze scored points for Miami at both the ACC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, placing eighth in the indoor 400m final and running on both the indoor and outdoor 4x400m relays that reached the finals at the conference meets. Herrera Captures National Title in 1-Meter

Rising sophomore diver Briadam Herrera won the first national title of his budding career Tuesday night, taking first place in the 1-meter event at the 2015 AT&T USA Diving National Championships at the YMCA of Central Florida. Herrera dominated the event with 435 points, 60.85 points ahead of silver medalist Aaron Fleshner. Cory Bowersox was third with 356.05 points. Herrera was consistent throughout the final, scoring no lower than 67.20 points on any of his six dives. He trailed Fleshner by 1.6 points after the first round and took the lead in round two with 76.50 points on his back 2 ½ tuck. He led for the duration of the contest, with his best marks coming in round five when he scored 81.60 points on an inward 2 ½ pike. “I thought I did really well. My dives felt good, and I thought I was powerful. Everything went right,” said Herrera, a Cuban native who became a U.S. citizen last year. The performance continued a strong summer for Herrera after a dominant first year of diving with the Hurricanes. Representing USA for the first time in his international career, Herrera earned a bronze medal at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea in early July. “Briadam has a huge upside. He got a lot better in his freshman year, and he’s hungry,” Ableman said after his rising star’s performance in South Korea. “I’m hungry for him to continue and make another step in his sophomore year. “Right now, he’s very proficient on the 1-meter, but we have a lot of work to do in the other events, particularly the 3-meter. We’ve been talking about getting him up on the platform this coming season, so it’s going to be a big year for us.” The sophomore was an All-America in the 1-meter during his first trip to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships this past March, posting a score of 397.85 in the finals to gain the distinction. He also won two gold medals at the 2015 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships, taking top honors in both 1-meter (453.85) and 3-meter (400.20).

Golden Cane Society: Leadership Annual Giving

The Hurricane Club at the University of Miami receives generous financial support from over 8,000 members across 11 giving levels. While every donation has a direct impact on the lives of our student-athletes, the most substantial support comes from members within the Golden Cane Society. “The Golden Cane Society is made up of four distinct giving levels: Golden Cane ($15,000), Golden Cane Plus ($25,000), Platinum ($30,000), and Champions ($55,000). Combined, these levels create the solid foundation of support for the Hurricane Club on an annual basis,” said Associate AD for Development Jesse Marks. Since its inception over 30 years ago, the Golden Cane Society has grown to more than 200 donors accounting for more than $3 million in donations annually. Ben Reid, longtime Golden Cane, shared, “Most people wouldn’t know, but my wife Jennie Lou and I did not attend the University of Miami. However, our passion for the Canes runs deep and has even led to two of our children earning graduate degrees from the University. We joined the Golden Cane Society a little over 10 years ago, and in that time, we’ve attended countless sporting events and built a strong network of dear friends. We became Golden Canes for one simple reason – to help provide an opportunity for young men and women to earn their degrees at UM. A student-athlete’s degree is most important and we are gratified to help make a difference.” In addition to their philanthropic impact, Golden Cane Society members have access to the most exclusive benefits and experiences provided by Miami Athletics. These benefits range from invitations to private practices and exclusive events to first access to tickets and parking. However, the most sought after benefits are: Preferred Golden Cane Seating, Golden Cane Lounge, Champions Suite and Golden Cane Trips. PREFERRED GOLDEN CANE SEATING (NEW in 2015) Preferred Golden Cane Seating offers two styles of seats for donors at the Golden Cane ($15K), Golden Cane Plus ($25K), and Platinum ($30K) giving levels: (1) Premium Club and (2) Premium Club Living Room Boxes. These private sections are located on the 50-yard line in the lower bowl, and offer wider, more cushioned seats with additional legroom that rivals any stadium in the country. GOLDEN CANE LOUNGE (NEW in 2015) The private lounge, which is located on the ground floor of Gate G, is open to all Golden Cane Society members sitting in the Preferred Golden Cane Seating areas. The lounge provides all-inclusive food and beverage starting 90 minutes prior to kick-off through the beginning of the 3rd quarter as well as enhanced food options such as a chef’s action station, carving station, stone oven pizzas / flatbreads, and dessert station. CHAMPIONS SUITE (NEW in 2015) Members at the Champions ($55K) giving level have access to the Champions Suite, which sits directly atop the lower bowl on the 50-yard line. The suite offers all-inclusive food and beverage, personalized VIP parking, and the chance to share a suite with Director of Athletics Blake James and special VIP guests. GOLDEN CANE TRIP Each football season, the Hurricane Club offers a first-class away game trip to all Golden Cane Society members. In 2015, the Golden Canes will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to cheer on the Canes as they face the North Carolina Tar Heels. The trip includes a private charter, exceptional accommodations, intimate dinner with Director of Athletics Blake James, caravan escort to stadium, and official University of Miami pre-game tailgate party before kickoff. “The Golden Cane Society exists as an opportunity for a small group of donors to have a tremendous philanthropic impact at an institution they are passionate about. The enjoyment of supporting our student-athletes, in addition to the many tangible benefits, has created a culture of giving within the Golden Canes that provides impactful support to our athletics program. Members of the Golden Cane Society will be overwhelmingly pleased with the new seating options, parking availability and first class hospitality,” Marks said. “This exclusive group of donors has and will continue to play an essential role in helping the University of Miami to continue #BuildingChampions in the classroom, in competition and in life.” To join the Golden Canes or learn more about the Golden Cane Society, contact Associate AD for Development Jesse Marks at 305-284-2981 or by email at j.marks@miami.edu.

A: I’ve been having a lot of fun. People here are so nice and they’ve made me feel right at home. Q: What has been your favorite part of being a Hurricane? A: I’ve been meeting a lot of other studentathletes, and I think my favorite part so far is getting to know other UM athletes that share the same passion for sports that I do. A: Yes, Jaalen (Jones), Breon (Mullings), Carlos (Mangum), and Dakota (Dailey-Harris) have all taken me, and the other freshman girls under their wings. They have helped out showing us around campus and MIami as a whole. They have made the summer session really fun for me. Q: What has been the biggest adjustment for you since you arrived? A: Pretty much just being on my own and having to take care of myself. 28

McGuire and Williams Sign Pro Deals

A pair of seniors from the 2014-15 University of Miami women’s basketball team have signed professional contracts. Both Suriya McGuire and Jassany Williams will be continuing their playing careers overseas. McGuire, a 5-foot-11 guard, inked with Hamar Basketball Club in Iceland, while Williams, a 6-foot-2 forward, agreed to a deal with Alte Kanti Aarau in Switzerland. “We are just thrilled for Suriya and Jassany,” Miami head coach Katie Meier said. “They are super individuals who represented the University so well throughout their careers. I could not be happier to see them both fulfill their lifelong dreams.” A Minneapolis native, McGuire was a member of the Hurricanes from 2011-15 and tied for the third-most games played in program history, with 127 appearances. Additionally, McGuire’s 76 blocks place her No. 11 all-time at Miami. McGuire averaged 9.2 points per game as a junior in 2013-14 and posted double figures in a game 35 times during her career. She recorded 50-plus assists and 115-plus rebounds each of her final three seasons in Coral Gables. McGuire helped Miami reach the postseason all four of her seasons in orange and green, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. “It’s amazing to see my dream finally become my reality,” McGuire said. “This is just the beginning of what is yet to come.” Hailing from nearby Davie, Fla., Williams played for Miami from 2013-15 after spending the first two years of her career at Auburn. A 2014-15 All-ACC Academic Team selection, Williams set the program single game record with nine blocked shots in Miami’s win over fourth-ranked Notre Dame last season. Despite playing just two seasons for the Hurricanes, Williams finished her career third in blocks at Miami with 133. Her 76 blocks in 2014-15 rank second on the single season list, while her 57 in 2013-14 tie for fifth in Hurricane history. Williams led Miami in blocks and rebounds her final season, while leading the ACC in blocks in conference play and finishing sixth overall. “I feel very honored and blessed to be able to pursue my dream of becoming a professional basketball player,” Williams said. “Switzerland is a very beautiful place with wonderful people and I am so happy to be a part of this organization.” McGuire and Williams are the 13th and 14th Hurricanes to sign pro deals during Meier’s years heading the program, with greater than a half dozen of those coming in the last four years alone. @HurricaneTennis Announces Fall Schedule, Signees Miami women’s tennis head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced this month the team’s fall 2015 schedule. Miami players will be participating in seven different tournaments from mid-September through early November. The Hurricanes will open their season by hosting the Miami Fall Invite at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center from Sept. 18-20. Fellow ACC schools Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh, as well as Auburn, Ohio State and reigning national champion Vanderbilt, will all be on hand in Coral Gables. During those same three days in September, 2015 All-Americans Sinead Lohan and Stephanie Wagner will be in Malibu, Calif. for the inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters at the Malibu Racquet Club. They will be among the 16 women’s singles players in the field. On the final weekend of September, the Hurricanes will travel to Puerto Rico to participate in the Puerto Rico Fall Classic along with Georgia, Illinois and Mercer. The tournament, held Sept. 25-27, will be a homecoming for Miami sophomore Yolimar Ogando, a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico. Up next for the Hurricanes will then be the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The event runs from Oct. 3-11, with Miami players’ specific dates of participation dependent on who is selected for. Miami will head northwest in the state up to Ft. Myers, Fla. from Oct. 16-18 to participate in the Bedford Cup, held at FGCU. Then, from Oct. 22-26, the Hurricanes will be at ITA Southeast Regionals, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. The fall season will then conclude in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. at the USTA Bille Jean King National Tennis Center. There, selected Hurricanes will take part in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Indoor Championships from Nov. 12-15. When the Hurricanes open up the fall season in just a few short weeks, they will have two new members, as Ana Madcur of San Juan, Argentina and Clara Tanielian of Ensuès-la-Redonne, France both signed with and joined the Hurricanes. Madcur will come to Miami as a freshman, while Tanielian is a transfer who will be eligible for the 2015-16 season. Madcur was ranked among the top 25 singles players in Argentina by the WTA when her signing was initially announced and she has reached as high as No. 709 in the world. Madcur is ranked No. 20 in doubles in her home country and has risen as high as No. 636 internationally. “Ana will offer incredible depth to our team,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Her values match those of this system and we are excited to have her on board.” A graduate of Colegio Modelo de San Juan, Madcur earned her first WTA point at age 15 and she has picked up five singles victories over players who have been ranked in the top 500 in the world. Madcur has reached five $10,000 doubles tournament semifinals, advancing to the championship in four of them. She won the title at both Villa Maria in

Argentina in June 2014 and Santiago in Chile in November 2013. Madcur also has made five other $10,000 singles tournament quarterfinals. The right-handed Madcur peaked at No. 114 in the ITF rankings when she was 16, before ending play at the junior level. In the under-16 age group, Madcur was ranked as high as second in Argentina and fifth in the South America Tennis Confederation (COSAT). Prior to that, at the under-14 level, Madcur peaked at No. 4 in Argentina and No. 8 in COSAT. Tanielian comes to Miami after previously taking college classes through Centro Nacional de Enseñanza a Distancia (CNED). She also graduated from CNED for high school. “Clara is going to offer a diverse playing style and a level of maturity of an upperclassman,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Her transition will be fast and her impact direct.” Currently, Tanielian is ranked among the WTA’s top 60 singles players in France and has achieved an international ranking as high as No. 1,176. She is in the top 35 her home nation in doubles and her highest world ranking is No. 845. Both of her peak international rankings have come in the last 14 weeks. Tanielian has advanced to the semifinals of three $10,000 doubles tournaments, earning a championship victory at El Kantaoui 8 in Tunisia in March 2015. In four of the 10 $10,000 doubles tournaments she has participated in, Tanielian has at least made the quarterfinals. The right-handed Tanielian has had a great deal of success in doubles tournaments in France, winning five major tournaments in a variety of age groups over multiple years. That includes a title at the French doubles cup at the under-18 level in 2014. In 2013, Tanielian became one of the top-100 ranked singles players in France and made it to the semifinals of the singles regional championships. The following year, in addition to winning the doubles title, she advanced to the final match of the singles junior regional championships. Madcur and Tanielian join a Hurricane team that returns six of its eight players who participated in dual matches during the 2015 season. “I’m really excited to see these players gel with an already great group,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. @CanesFutbol Captain’s Corner: Aug. 26, 2015

The captains of the University of Miami soccer team for the 2015 season are writing a blog for HurricaneSports.com this year called Captain’s Corner. Named a captain just a few weeks ago, senior midfielder/defender Natalie Moik provided her first entry Wednesday. Moik, a native of Cologne, Germany, provides a look into the Hurricanes’ opening weekend of the 2015 regular season . . . Hey Canes fans, thanks for reading again this week. Our season just started, but it is already safe to say that the weather has not been our best friend. As you already heard from Erin last week, both of our exhibition games got cut short due to weather. We were forced to start our regular season without having played a full 90-minute game, but we couldn’t have been more ready to step on the field together. After a good pregame practice on Thursday morning, our bus departed for Miami International Airport. This was the first official away trip for our freshmen, which is always exiting. During the flight, a few of the passengers—*cough cough* Coach and Kate—were frightened due to the turbulence we experienced. We arrived in Charleston, went to a team dinner, and then spent the rest of the night at the hotel preparing for our game the next day. Our first game was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. We began our day with a short and fun practice that got everyone focused and prepared for that night. Afterwards, we met in the meeting room of our hotel to go over some video and scouting report before we had some free time to relax. We departed the hotel for our pregame meal around 4:00 p.m. As we were finishing our food, Coach told us that our game was delayed due to weather once again. We had been in this situation before, so everyone knew what it meant and how to react. Although we went back to the hotel, we stayed calm and positive, waiting for our coaches to update us for a new game time. Most of the team was gathered on the front porch of the hotel, when we received a text message from Coach: “Game is cancelled.” It was almost unbelievable that we were not able to play our third game in a row, but we had to deal with the situation and get ready for our next game, which was scheduled to be on Sunday. It seemed like there was a giant rain cloud following our every move. Instead of a normal pregame practice on Saturday morning, our coaches took us downtown and we went on a team jog through the beautiful city of Charleston, right by the water. We had a lot of families in Charleston to support us, so a lot of the girls got the chance to spend some time with their families in the afternoon before we explored the city as a team before dinner. On Saturday evening we had planned to do a haunted house tour together as a team, but once again the weather stopped us from doing this team activity. The weather was a hero that day, as I do not like scary things :/ Another game day had come and finally the thunderstorms decided to take a break and let us play a whole game against Texas. Our energy had been accumulated from all the cancelled games and it reflected in the way we played. It was an intense game against a good team from Texas. Unfortunately, we fell short and lost 1-0, but we are able take a lot of positive things from our first full game of the season. It was great to see the team combine well and compete hard from the first to the last minute of the game. We are now looking forward to our home opener against the University of Florida on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. We are excited and hope for lots of supporters at Cobb Stadium. Thank you for reading! 32

Miami reached the second round for the third time in program history. The Canes, who are 3-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, earned their first NCAA Tournament victory since 2011 when they beat UCF in five sets on Dec. 5. The win was also the first NCAA Tournament victory in Gandara’s head coaching career. Miami brings back five of seven starters from the 2014 team. Preseason All-ACC pick Haley Templeton joins seniors Taylor Scott and Kalysta White, junior Kelsie Groot and sophomore Sakile Simmons as key returners heading into 2015. Senior Caitilin Donahoe and sophomores Sylvia Hernandez, Michele Marenus and Brooke McDermott also made contributions for the Hurricanes in 2014, while senior Alexis Mourning is back on the court after redshirting in the 2014 season. Preseason All-ACC selection Olga Strantzali is one of six newcomers joining the Hurricanes in 2015 along with freshmen Lucia Pampana, Anna Haak, Kolby Bird, Codi Lee and Samantha Purnell. Miami opens the 2015 season on August 28 against Illinois State. The match, which begins at 7 p.m., is the first of three the Hurricanes will play in the season-opening Hurricane Invitational at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on the University of Miami campus.

Two Canes Picked Preseason All-ACC Sophomores Templeton and Strantzali among conference’s best players The University of Miami volleyball team had two members selected to the 2015 Preseason All-ACC Team. Sophomores Haley Templeton and Olga Strantzali were the two Hurricanes named to the 18-member Preseason All-ACC Team that was voted on by the ACC coaches. “It’s great to have two players recognized by the conference,” Gandara said. “Olga and Haley are two players we are expecting to have an impact this season. We have good balance of returners and newcomers heading into this season with four seniors and only one junior.” Templeton had a fantastic freshman campaign that has resulted in a slew of honors including ACC Freshman of the Year, and All-ACC Freshman Team selection and a All-ACC Second Team selection. She was named ACC Freshman of the Week five times during the 2014 season. The Alpharetta, Ga., native eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark during Miami’s 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech a week ago, recording the 10th 1,000-assist season since the program returned in 2001. “It has been great to see Haley mature and develop as last season went on,” Gandara said. “She came in with a good skill level, but now she has a much better command of the offense and how to run an team. She is a great teammate and is becoming a better leader. I look forward to watching her continue to develop.” The gifted setter finished the season ranked second in the ACC with 10.99 assists/set. She finished the year with 1,143 assists and led the Hurricanes with 28 service aces. She was also a threat to attack, notching 68 kills on the season. The freshman recorded at least 20 assists in 30 of Miami’s 31 matches this season, including a careerhigh 53 assists four times (9/13 vs. Ball State, 9/20 vs. Missouri, 10/5 vs. Florida State and 10/10 at Syracuse). Strantzali is a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Pylaia, Thessaloniki, Greece, who will transfer to Miami after 35

Sign Up Now for Fall Cane Nation

This fall, the University of Miami men’s basketball team becomes heroes for kids during Cane Nation, a once-in-a-lifetime experience providing boys in grades K-6 the unique opportunity to interact with Hurricane basketball players in a true basketball setting. “When I was a youngster, I loved following college basketball,” said Coach Jim Larrañaga. “It was a real thrill for me to meet college players. They were my heroes. Cane Nation provides that for youth in the Miami area.” Cane Nation was started in Miami four years ago by Larrañaga, who wanted to give kids an opportunity to get excited about the Hurricanes, the players that are going to be their coaches and basketball in general. “We want to provide boys the unique opportunity to interact with our University of Miami basketball players in a true basketball setting,” added Larrañaga. “The kids will have so much fun they will be talking about it for years to come.” Cane Nation will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the University of Miami Field House on Sundays - September 13, 20, 27 and Oct. 4 for boys in grades K-6. Cost of the camp is $225. At Cane Nation participants are divided into age groups and evaluated by UM players on the first day of camp. From there, UM players - acting as coaches - draft their own teams and the young campers are sent their draft status and signing bonus in the mail. After teams are formed, each day of Cane Nation involves a session of personalized instruction to learn some of the fundamentals of the sport, followed by three competitive games. During player meetings, the staff also puts an emphasis on academic, social and athletic growth and development. Each Cane Nation participant will receive a Cane Nation T-shirt and shorts, as well as the opportunity to spend quality time with our University of Miami men’s basketball team. The UM players interact with the Cane Nation participants at camp, but also throughout the season, at games and in the community. “Cane Nation gives us an opportunity for the Miami players to coach these kids, who they look up to so much,” said Adam Fisher, director of operations for men’s basketball. “Coach L is great in giving back to the community.” Space is limited for the Cane Nation and registration will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, so sign up now at GoCoachL. com. Dinsmore Captures Platform National Title

2015 World Championships team member David Dinsmore won the men’s 10-meter title to close out the AT&T USA Diving National Championships on Thursday. Dinsmore, who was 15th on 10-meter at the World Championships earlier this month, won his first individual 10-meter national championship with 422.15 points in a contest that came down to the final dive. The championship was the second for the Hurricanes at the prestigious tournament; rising sophomore Briadam Herrera took first place in the 1-meter Tuesday night. “It came down to the last dive, and that’s what makes a great contest,” Dinsmore said. “It was a little tough for me coming back from worlds. You’re on such a high and then you’ve got to get ready for nationals a week later.” Dinsmore had a 25-point lead with two dives remaining but missed his fifth dive, a reverse 3 ½ tuck, for just 37.40 points. Dinsmore’s miss put Zach Cooper ahead by .55 points heading into the final round. Cooper then scored 73.60 points on a back 2 ½ with 1 ½ twists, while Dinsmore countered with 90 points on a back 2 ½ with 2 ½ twists to secure the gold. “I kept checking the scoreboard. I knew after my gainer that Zac and I were less than a point apart. I saw Zach nailed his last dive, so I knew I had to nail mine as well,” Dinsmore said. Cooper finished second with 406.30 points, and Dominic Giordano was third at 360.35. “It’s kind of hard to get yourself back up at the same level [after worlds], but fortunately I was able to do that today. I came out with good results,” Dinsmore said. Head coach Randy Ableman is excited about the fall – Dinsmore’s first stint of collegiate diving for the Hurricanes. “He’s already accomplished quite a bit, and he has a lot of development ahead of him, as far as his springboard goes,” Ableman said. “He should be one of the best in college diving in the 10-meter as a freshman.”

The Hurricanes will also play a pair of road games at Nebraska and LaSalle, and three games in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan, P.R. “Our non-conference schedule has a great mixture of home, away and neutral site games that will test our players and prepare the team for the rigorous ACC schedule,” Larrañaga said. “Hurricanes fans can look forward to creating an electric home court advantage for seven exciting games in the BankUnited Center, including matchups against in-state rival Florida and 2015 CAA Champion, Northeastern.” Following an exhibition game against Dowling Nov. 4, Miami opens the season with back-to-back home games, facing the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (formerly Texas-Pan Am), Friday, Nov. 13, then quickly turning around to play Louisiana (formerly Louisiana-Lafayette) on Monday, Nov. 16. The Canes then join seven teams – Butler, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri State, Temple, Texas Tech and Utah – in Puerto Rico Tip-Off held Nov. 19, 20 and 22 at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in Puerto Rico. The complete bracket for the tournament will be announced August 6. Five of the final seven non-conference games will be played at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla., beginning with the Nov. 27 matchup with 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Champion and NCAA second-round participant, Northeastern. On Dec. 1 Miami returns to Lincoln, Neb., to face the Cornhuskers for the Big Ten / ACC Challenge, a rematch of the 2013 game in which Nebraska prevailed. Three-straight home games begin with Charlotte Dec. 5, followed by the highly-anticipated matchup with Florida Dec. 8, then a game against Charleston Dec. 19, after finals week. Miami downed all three teams last season, beating Charlotte twice within 48 hours at the Charleston Classic and in Charlotte, N.C., toppling then-No. 8/7 Florida in Gainesville, and defeating Charleston by 27 points at the BUC. Miami’s final non-conference road game will be Dec. 22 against La Salle at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia. The Canes then return home to face Princeton on Dec. 29, closing out the non-conference slate. “In December we’ll play La Salle in Philadelphia at the Palestra, which is often called the Cathedral of College Basketball. This environment should be a good experience for our players as we close out the non-conference schedule,” Larrañaga added.

at the new uniforms and to celebrate the new partnership, which begins on September 1st.

The Hurricanes also received seven first-place votes to win the ACC Coastal.

Developed in collaboration with the University of Miami athletic department, the team’s new look is highlighted by updated metallic stripes on the jerseys and pants, incorporating hurricane style cuts and patterns throughout the new uniform.

Miami enters the 2015 campaign by returning 11 starters and 41 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which made the program’s 38th overall bowl appearance in 2014.

Additionally, the “Hurricanes” moniker is strategically placed across the ribbing of the inside collar for the players to see when they don the uniform, while the classic oversized “U” logo is stitched into on the back of the jersey for all to view.

Quarterback Brad Kaaya leads the way for the Hurricanes’ offense as he returns for his sophomore season following a stellar rookie campaign where he set the single season all-time freshman record for passing yards, passing touchdowns and completions. Kaaya would eventually go on to win ACC Rookie of the Year honors.

Made with a cutting-edge, proprietary yarn blend that increases durability and abrasion resistance, Primeknit is the premier compression uniform system, featuring the latest generation of adidas TECHFIT technology.

The University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame is excited about the 2015-2016 school year as it begins its 50th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the UMSHoF. Founded on April 13, 1966 by eight (Miami) Dade County Circuit Court judges, the Hall has inducted 292 former student-athletes, coaches and administrators the finest to wear the orange, green and white. The UMSHoF kicked off the year by hosting the athletic department staff and coaches, along with its committee members and supporters, at its annual Welcome Back Reception on Monday, August 24. More than 150 gathered at the Hall for a festive evening and to welcome each other back for another successful year. The Hall will be hosting its 23rd annual Celebrity Golf Tournament to benefit the Hurricane Club on Friday, October 23 at the beautiful Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables. This year, Hurricane great Alonzo Highsmith will serve as the celebrity host for the event, and the Hall will be partnering with the Hurricane Club to raise money for student-athlete scholarships. The following day, the UMSHoF Class of 2016 Inductees will be introduced at the Clemson game at Sun Life Stadium, along with football members of the UMSHoF during separate ceremonies. As the year progresses, the Hall is excited to continue its work as the repository for nearly 90 years of Hurricanes athletics. Under the guidance of new President Gerard Loisel, the future looks bright as we continue to partner with great organizations such as the Hurricane Club, Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys, the Buonicont Fund to Cure Paralysis and other charitable groups for our three major fundraising events: the golf tournament, the 5th annual UMSHoF Bowling Tournament in February and the 6th annual UMSHoF Dolphin Tournament in Islamorada in June. The UM Sports Hall of Fame is located next to the Hecht Athletic Center on campus and is open free to the public Monday through Friday from Noon to 5 p.m. For group tours, or other information, call 305-284-2775 or go to UMSportsHallofFame. com.
