A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS The U is #BuildingChampions! The 2015-16 athletics campaign was one for the ages at the University of Miami, as our student-athletes celebrated success in the classroom, in the community and in competition. These successes shared by our student-athletes have been made possible due to the generous support of our donors, fans and alumni. Thanks to “U’ our record-setting 9,500-plus members of the Hurricane Club and our 35,000-plus football season ticket holders, we are achieving excellence across the board as an athletics program. As a department, we had 11 programs qualify for postseason play and 31 student-athletes recognized as All-Americans. In addition, Miami finished 40th out of 347 Division I institutions in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. This is our best finish since the 2002-03 athletics season and it also marks the seventh time Miami has finished in the top 40 since the Director’s Cup began in 1994. I would like to congratulate Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ women’s tennis program, which returned to the Sweet 16 and Jim Morris’ baseball team which earned the program’s 25th College Baseball World Series appearance. Both programs extended their impressive postseason streaks: Women’s tennis advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 11th consecutive year and baseball posted its nation-leading 44th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance. I also would like to recognize Jim Larrañaga’s men’s basketball program and Katie Meier’s women’s basketball teams, both of which earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The men’s basketball team’s run to the Sweet 16 was truly memorable and the women’s basketball program has established itself as a consistent postseason participant, earning its fifth NCAA tournament appearance in the last six years. Our student-athletes continue to achieve success in the classroom, as well. All 18 programs scored at least 960 on the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, with three programs receiving APR Public Recognition Awards. This past year, our athletics department continued to invest in our student-athletes with the opening of our new athletics nutrition center in the Isadore Hecht Athletic Center, which has enhanced our student-athlete experience. Thank you for standing with The U and helping us build champions. You truly make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes. We are looking forward to a great 2016-17 athletic year. Go Canes!

A LOOK BACK AT 2015-16 SEPTEMBER Oct. 2 - Women’s soccer posted a thrilling 1-0 victory over No. 14/4 Notre Dame at Cobb Stadium. Forward Gracie Lachowecki scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute.
Nov. 25 - The men’s basketball team announced that its 201516 season is sold out on a season-ticket basis. Nov. 29 - The women’s volleyball team earned its seventh straight NCAA Tournament bid. The Hurricanes would go on to face Iowa State.
Jan. 24 - The University of Miami Athletics Department held its second annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics event. The occasion also served as the kickoff event for President Julio Frenk’s inauguration week celebration.

Oct. 31 - Corn Elder’s 75-yard kickoff return with no time remaining lifted the Hurricanes to a 30-27 win over No. 22 Duke. The final play - better known as the Mircale in Durham - featured eight laterals.

FEBRUARY Feb. 27 - The women’s track and field team won its third ACC Indoor Championship. The Hurricanes scored 85 points to claim their first indoor league title since 2006. March 19 - Senior Angel Rodriguez scored a game-high 28 points on 9-of-11 shooting to send the Hurricanes to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the third time in program history.
Sept. 19 - Football improved to 3-0 following a 36-33 overtime victory over Nebraska. Kicker Michael Badgley sealed the win thanks to a 28-yard field goal.

May 24 - Freshman Dewi Weber claimed national runner-up honors at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship after she carded a final round 71 to tie for second. Weber posted a four-round total of 280, finishing the tournament eight-under-par. June 11 - Over the course of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the Hurricanes had seven players selected. July 17 - Alysha Newman was among the 65 athletes selected to represent Team Canada in track and field during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

HURRICANES MAKE DIVISION I ATHLETICS HISTORY Miami became the only school in NCAA Division I athletics to have its football team play in a bowl game, men’s and women’s basketball teams reach the NCAA tournament and baseball team advance to the College World Series during the 2015-16 academic year. In 2016, the Miami Hurricanes extended their college baseball record with their 44th straight trip to the NCAA postseason, a streak that dates to 1973. Awarded the No. 3 national seed for its dominant regular season, the Hurricanes went a perfect 3-0 in the NCAA Regional round and topped Boston College in the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional to advance to the College World Series for the 25th time in program history. Miami’s 25 CWS trips are the second-most of any program nationwide, trailing only Texas’ 35. The 2015-16 Hurricanes men’s basketball team played its way into the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 for the second time in four seasons, and just the third time in school history. Miami ended the season ranked No. 10 by the Associated Press and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Canes were ranked in the polls a school record 18 straight weeks and ranked top-15 for a school record 14 weeks. Miami’s 27 wins were the second-most victories in school history, behind 29 in the 2012-13 season. The Hurricanes finished 13-5 in ACC action, tied for second place in the league and posted a perfect 9-0 mark at home in conference play and defeated five ranked teams. The Miami women’s basketball team posted a stellar 24-9 (10-6 ACC) record in 2015-16 to tie for the fifth-most wins in a single season in program history. The Hurricanes reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the past six seasons and earned a No. 5 seed, tied for their fourth-highest seed ever. Miami, which won its first 10 games of the year, also advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament for the second time after defeating No. 14/10 Florida State, 74-56, in the quarterfinals. The Miami football team earned a bid to its 39th bowl game following an 8-4 regular season in 2015, during which it posted victories against Nebraska, nationally-ranked Duke and defending ACC Coastal Champion Georgia Tech. Miami opened the season on a high note, as it went 3-0 for the just the 17th time in the last 60 years. The Hurricanes finished the regular season winning four of their final five games and were selected to play in the 2015 Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.

BASEBALL
• The Hurricanes earned a bid to the College World Series for the second consecutive season and made their 25th overall appearance in Omaha, Neb. • Miami made its NCAA-record 44th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship. • Miami won 50 games (50-12) for the 21st time in program history, and ninth time under head coach Jim Morris. • Seven Hurricanes were selected in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft, including Zack Collins, who was selected in the first-round by the Chicago White Sox. • Collins was announced as the recipient of the 2016 Johnny Bench Award honoring the nation’s top collegiate catcher. • Collins and sophomore Michael Mediavilla were among those players recognized as Rawlings All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). • Head coach Jim Morris became just the sixth head coach in the history of Division I baseball to reach the 1,500-win milestone on March 18. • Morris won his 1,000th game at Miami in a 5-4 walk-off victory over Clemson on March 26.

Miami also was ranked top-15 for a school record 14 weeks. • The Hurricanes won the Puerto Rico Tip Off, defeating No. 16 Utah, No. 22/20 Butler and Mississippi State by 20.0 points per game. • Sheldon McClellan, Tonye Jekiri and Angel Rodriguez were named All-ACC, while Jekiri was on the ACC Defensive Team. Davon Reed was on the All-ACC Academic Team. • Jim Larrañaga was named ACC Coach of the Year for second time in four seasons. • Sheldon McClellan was named to the USBWA All-District Team and Coach Larrañaga was recognized as District IV Coach of the Year.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CROSS COUNTRY • Miami made its seventh straight postseason appearance, reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the past six years and won 20-plus games for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. • The Hurricanes went 24-9, tying for the fifth-most wins in a single season in program history, and also tallied 11 wins away from home, tied for their third-most all-time in a campaign. • Miami was ranked in the top 25 of both major polls for 13 separate weeks, including receiving a top-20 ranking in at least one poll 11 times, peaking at No. 16 and finishing the season at No. 24 in the nation. • Head coach Katie Meier guided the Hurricanes past No. 10 Florida State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals to earn the program’s second semifinal appearance, and she also surpassed 200 wins in her 11-year tenure at Miami earlier in the season. • Adrienne Motley was named First Team All-ACC and a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, Jessica Thomas was tabbed to the ACC All-Tournament Second Team and the AllACC Academic Team and Emese Hof also made the All-ACC Academic Team.
• Men’s cross country earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award for the third consecutive year. It was the seventh time the men’s team was recognized for having an APR score in the top 10 percent of their sport. • Gabrielle Hesslau moved into third place on the UM all-time top 10 with a personalbest 6K time of 21:43.20 at the ACC Championships. The junior also ranks fourth in school history in the 5K with a time of 17:54.22. • Anne Den Otter had an impressive freshman season, moving into the UM all-time top 10 in both the 5K (8th, 18:31.50) and 6K (22:19.23). • Sean Grossman was one of three Hurricanes to compete at the NCAA South Regional, joined by Hesslau and Den Otter. The top runner on the men’s team in 2015, Grossman posted three top 10 finishes and an a season-best 8K time of 26:01.2 at the ACC Championships.

• Miami’s appearance in the 2015 Hyundai Sun Bowl marked the 39th time the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game. • Miami’s appearance in the Hyundai Sun Bowl also marked the third-consecutive season in which it has competed in the postseason. • QB Brad Kaaya ranked in the top 50 in eight national statistical categories in 2015. He also was one of just three players nationally to throw for 3,000-or-more yards, 10-ormore touchdowns and have five-or-fewer interceptions. • Following the season, nine Hurricanes received all-conference recogition from the ACC. • Hurricane defensive backs Artie Burns and Deon Bush were both selected in the 2016 NFL Draft. Burns was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Bush picked by the Chicago Bears.

GOLF
• The Miami women’s golf team earned its first trip to the NCAA Championship since 1992 following a fifthplace finish at the NCAA Regional. • Miami closed out the year 21st at the 2016 NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. • The Hurricanes posted three top five finishes during the year. • Freshman Dewi Weber ended the year on a high note as she took national runner-up honors at the NCAA Championship. • Weber finished the year with an ACC-best scoring average of 70.6 strokes per round. • Junior Daniela Darquea was named to the All-ACC Team for the third consecutive year. • Weber and Darquea received WGCA AllRegion honors and earned All-America Honorable Mention recognition from the WGCA. • Weber and Darquea also earned All-America honors from Golfweek. • Darquea was named ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
ROWING
• The Canes finished eighth at the ACC Rowing Championship, scoring 22 points as a team. Miami’s top varsity boat won the Varsity Eight Petite Final, while senior Ally Whitty was named Second Team All-ACC at the conclusion of the championships. • Whitty also earned All-Region honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association, as she was named to the CRCA All-Region 3 Second Team. • The Hurricanes won the Cal Cup at the 2016 San Diego Crew Classic. Miami’s 1V8+ claimed its second Cal Cup since 2013 after winning the Grand Final on Mission Bay with a time of 7:11.845. • Miami had two pairs win titles at prestigious regattas during the 2015-16 season. Seniors Sarah Aschebrock and Caitlin Lowe won the Women’s Open 2- event at the 2015 Head of the Hooch in Tennessee, while Whitty teamed with sophomore Taegan Lynch to win the women’s pairs title at the 2016 Knecht Cup in New Jersey. • Seven Hurricanes were selected as CRCA National Scholar-Athlete award winners: Sarah Aschebrock, Alyssa Basdavanos, Kristen Bufkin, Caitlin Lowe, Taegan Lynch, Caitlin White-Parsons and Gigi Williamson. Aschebrock, who served on the executive board of Miami’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was also tapped into the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society.
SOCCER
• Miami earned the 10th win over a team with a top-10 ranking, including the fifth in the past five seasons, when it topped No. 14/4 Notre Dame, 1-0, in double overtime at Cobb Stadium. • Catalina Perez, whose play against Notre Dame earned her ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors and two national accoloades, represented Colombia in multiple international competitions, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup, during which she earned the starting nod in the side’s firstever knockout round match. She will also compete in the Olympics. • Gracie Lachowecki, a two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Week honoree and an All-ACC Academic Team selection, became the sixth Hurricane to garner All-ACC honors, being named to the second team after ranking second in the conference and tied for No. 13 nationally in goals per match (0.80). • Miami posted a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over NC State in double overtime, fighting back from a 2-0 deficit through 50 minutes behind the first of Lachowecki’s two hat tricks (the other was a four-goal performance at Boston College). • The Hurricanes posted shutouts on the road in back-to-back games for the first time in three years, as the team won 2-0 at Jacksonville and then followed that up with a 1-0 triumph at FGCU five days later.

swimming & diving
• With a qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly, junior Angela Algee became the first Hurricane swimmer to earn a NCAA Championships berth since 2013, and the first qualifier since Andy Kershaw became head coach prior to the 2013-14 season. • Competing in the FINA Diving World Cup, freshman David Dinsmore earned a bronze medal in the 10-meter platform event and qualified the United States for a second spot in the 2016 Olympic Games with a top-10 finish in the event. • Five University of Miami divers qualified for the 2016 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships: men’s divers Briadam Herrera and Tanner Wilfong, as well as women’s divers Carolyn Chaney, Wally Layland and Kara McCormack. • Briadam Herrera continued his remarkable run by defending his titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the 2016 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships. Herrera has won four ACC gold medals in his first two years as a collegiate diver. • Sophomore Ksenia Yuskova (200 freestyle) and junior Christina Leander (100 backstroke, 200 backstroke) were among those to set school records during the 2015-16 season. • The Hurricanes compiled seven dual meet wins this past season, the most for a Miami team since 2010-11.

MEN’S TENNIS
• The Miami men’s tennis team defeated a pair of nationally-ranked squads in No. 47 Florida State and No. 68 Troy. UM was 3-0 against teams in the region, downing FAU, UCF and FSU. After debuting at No. 74 in early March, the Canes were ranked as high as No. 64 in the nation later that month. • In May, sophomore Piotr Lomacki was the first Hurricane to be selected for the NCAA Singles Championship since 2009. In the tournament, he won his first set, 6-4, against the No. 16 player in the nation. Then after being down 0-2, made a fierce comeback, but fell short in the second set. Lomacki lost the third set, 0-6, to end the season. • A native of Warsaw, Poland, Lomacki opened the spring season ranked No. 23 in ITA singles and was unranked in doubles, then finished the campaign No. 50 in singles and No. 77 in doubles, with teammate Nile Clark. • Lomacki was ranked in the top 40 for 17 of his singles matches, and in the top 80 for the entire year. The All-ACC Second Team performer led the Hurricanes with 14 singles victories, all at the top position. He defeated five nationally-ranked players, and five of his six ACC wins were in straight sets.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
• The Hurricanes, led by 2016 ITA Southeast Region Coach of the Year Paige YaroshukTews, made the NCAA Team Championship Sweet 16 for the 11th consecutive season, good for the third-longest active streak in the nation at the Division I level. • Miami finished the season with a record of 21-6, including 12-2 in the ACC, marking the 11th time in the last 13 years it won 20-plus matches and the third straight year it earned a dozen ACC victories. • The Hurricanes, with three ITA All-Americans in Sinead Lohan, Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang, were ranked in the top 10 in the nation for nine of the last 10 rankings releases, including ending the season at No. 10, good for the team’s 13th consecutive top15 finish and eighth top-10 finish in the past 11 seasons. • Lohan, a First Team All-ACC selection, advanced all the way to the Final Four of the NCAA Singles Championship, ended her season with a 40-6 record to tie for the thirdmost wins in a campaign in program history and finished the season ranked No. 6 in the nation. • Wagner, the 2016 ITA Southeast Region Player of the Year and a First Team All-ACC pick, broke the program singles wins record with her 134th-career victory, became the fifth Hurricane to play in four NCAA Singles Championships and ended the year at No. 10 in the country in singles and No. 8, with Third Team All-ACC honoree Zhang, in doubles.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
• At both the ACC Indoor Championships and ACC Outdoor Championships, Miami’s men’s team scored the most points since joining the conference in 2004-05. • Carlos Mangum qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight throw. The ACC runner-up in the weight throw placed 14th, earning Second Team All-America honors. • Miami set three school records during the 2016 indoor season: Mangum in the weight throw (21.32m), Gian Piero Ragonesi in the shot put (18.87m) and Thomas Gassner in the 600-yard run (1:12.76). • The Hurricanes had three men qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships: Isaiah Simmons and Gian Piero Ragonesi in the shot put and John-Patrick Friday in the triple jump. Ragonesi and Friday earned Second Team AllAmerica honors. • Six men competed at the NCAA East Preliminary: Simmons, Ragonesi, Friday, Mangum, Jaalen Jones and Henri Delauze • Freshman Andreas Christodoulou won the men’s decathlon at the ACC Outdoor Championships. • Canes set five school records during the 2016 outdoor season: Sean Grossman in the 3000m (8:31.41), Friday in the triple jump (15.80m), Simmons in the shot put (19.11m), Ragonesi in the discus (57.10m) and Mangum in the hammer throw (65.08m).

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD VOLLEYBALL • Miami’s women earned the 2016 ACC Indoor Championship, their third indoor title since joining the ACC and first since 2006. • The Hurricanes had six women qualify for the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, with Alysha Newman and Dakota Dailey-Harris earning First Team AllAmerica honors and four other Canes being named to the second team. • Shakima Wimbley was named ACC Women’s Indoor Track Most Outstanding Performer after winning the 200m, 400m and 4x400m at the ACC Indoor Championships. • Dailey-Harris was one of several ACC Champions during the indoor season, winning the high jump title. She was joined by Shakima Wimbley (200m and 400m) and the 4x400m relay team of Wimbley, Aiyanna Stiverne, Brittny Ellis and Destiny Washington. • Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem was named ACC Coach of the Year and USTFCCCA Regional Coach of the Year for the 2016 indoor season. • The Hurricane women finished second at the ACC Outdoor Championships, securing a top three finish for the third consecutive year. • Wimbley was named ACC Women’s Outdoor Track MVP after winning the 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m conference titles. • Newman was the ACC women’s pole vault champion for the 2016 outdoor season. • Fourteen women qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary, with 11 advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. • Newman was the national runner-up in the pole vault, while Wimbley finished third in the 400m. • Miami earned three First Team All-America honors, four Second Team All-America honors and one AllAmerica honorable mention after its performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
• The Hurricanes reached the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season, including the last three under head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara. • Miami, which finished 21-10 and 14-6 in ACC play, won at least 20 matches for the second consecutive season under Gandara. The third-year head coach won his 50th match when the Hurricanes defeated Clemson, 3-0, on Oct. 4, 2015. • The Hurricanes earned two victories over ranked opponents in 2015, beating No. 20 Purdue in five sets at the LSU Tournament on Sept. 12 and No. 17 Florida State in four sets in Coral Gables on Nov. 4. • Four Canes earned All-ACC honors as seniors Alexis Mourning and Taylor Scott, as well as sophomores Olga Strantzali and Haley Templeton, earned spots on the allconference second team. • Strantzali and Templeton were recognized as some of the top players in Miami’s region, earning AVCA All-Region honorable mention following the 2015 season. • Templeton participated in the 2016 U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts, vying for a spot on one of the USA teams. • Miami had four ACC weekly honors in 2015, Strantzali led the way with two ACC Player of the Week awards, while Scott earned the same honor once and freshman Anna Haak was picked the ACC Freshman of the Week to close out the regular season.

University of Miami athletic teams continue to excel in the classroom based on the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) statistics which were released by the NCAA. • Three University of Miami teams were publically honored for being among the top 10 percent in Academic Progress Rates (APR). • The men’s cross country, men’s diving and women’s golf and women’s swimming and diving teams earned APR Public Recognition Awards. • Men’s cross country and men’s diving received their seventh Public Recognition Award, while women’s golf collected its sixth honor. The Canes have won at least three Public Recognition Awards in each of the last six years. • Nine teams scored 990 or better out of a possible 1,000 points - men’s cross country (1000), men’s diving (1000), golf (1000), soccer (991) and women’s swimming (996), men’s tennis (991), women’s tennis (992), women’s indoor track (994) and women’s outdoor track (994). • In addition, Miami’s men’s basketball (980), football (965), men’s indoor track (971), men’s outdoor track (971), women’s cross country (987) and women’s volleyball (989) teams all featured APR scores above the national average. • Over the past year, Miami’s men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s indoor track, women’s outdoor track and women’s volleyball teams all saw their respective APR scores improve.

MIAMI AND ESPN • The University of Miami Department of Athletics unveiled an
unprecedented digital streaming network during the 2015-16 season, as it aired over 115 live events. • No school in the ACC aired more live events on ESPN3 than Miami. • As a result of the Hurricanes’ new digital streaming capability,
every Miami soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball and baseball game was broadcast live on an ESPN viewing platform. • Miami invested over $1 million in audio, visual and camera equip-
ment to create the ACC’s most viewed digital platform. • For the first time ever, Miami produced and aired the Hurricane
football team’s annual spring game live from Lockhart Stadium. • The 2015-16 athletics campaign also saw the first Hurricane
track and field, men’s tennis and women’s tennis home events aired live on an ESPN platform.

ACC NETWORK SET TO LAUNCH IN 2019 ESPN and the Atlantic Coast Conference will launch the ACC Network – a comprehensive linear and digital network, it was announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford and ESPN President John Skipper at the conference’s annual Football Kickoff media event in Charlotte, N.C. The 20-year partnership will provide ACC fans unprecedented access to live events via a comprehensive, multi-platform network. It also provides for the extension of the conference’s existing rights agreement with ESPN to 2036. ESPN is the ACC’s exclusive worldwide rights holder. Beginning in August 2016, fans can access more than 600 exclusive live events from across the conference via a digital live-events channel ‘ACC Network Extra’, immediately available to users who have access to ESPN3 via WatchESPN and the ESPN app, with that number growing each year. More than 1,300 ACC events will be distributed across the platforms in 2019 when the linear network launches.

MIAMI SAAC
At the University of Miami, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) aims to make the transition from student-athlete to business professional as smooth as possible. It is a commitment to redefine the term “five-tool athlete” through academics, engagement, leadership, camaraderie and service.
2015-16 Highlights • Miami SAAC became an official UM student organization. • Miami SAAC won the student affairs SOAR Award for Best New Student Campus Organization. • Miami SAAC played host to the Student-Athlete Career Fair, where 35 employers were in attendance. During the event, Miami student-athletes had the opportunity to network, gain potential internships and full-time employment. • Demetrius Jackson and Sunny Odogwu from the Miami football team attended the Black StudentAthlete Summit in Austin, Texas, for networking and leadership development.

RECORD-BREAKING SEASON IN TICKET SALES
The Miami men’s basketball team had a consistent stream of fans flowing into the BankUnited Center during the 2015-16 season, including this capacity crowd against Duke. The Canes defeated the Blue Devils, 80-69, on Jan. 25, 2016.
• The Hurricanes men’s basketball season was sold out at the BankUnited Center on a season-ticket basis.
• This marked the first time in Miami Hurricanes history any team has sold out its entire season.
