Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) Pictorial Space is the illusion of depth and space between objects, viewed from a distance, through a flat image. Le Corbusier also depicts it as a form of motion. He believes that the point of lived perspective is understood by this notion of real space. Objects in pictorial space should give an illusion of flatness which never breaks rank with the picture’s frontality. The grouping of objects wedge together in such a space insist on continuity of edges. Distance should also be about the appearance of the object and the object itself.
Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) They are attributed to colour and texture. They are handled in a way whereby distance or depth in the painting no longer represents the space separating two object from each other. However, these properties are pitted against contrast and depth. In terms of contrast, black shapes became signs of implied depth over which shadow is cast. Within three-dimensional space, contrast became an optical metaphor for the mutual externality of one object to another. On the other hand, depth is always a descriptor of texture. Textual integers that appear against the ground of contour define the object to which they belong.

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) Perspective is always linked to a fixed point of view while projections have vanishing points located at infinity. Perspectives are rendered at one and the same time more flexible from an instrumental point of view and more universal from a philosophic point of view. However, projections could transmit abstract information, it is also measurable, precise and verifiable. Perspective records what already exists but projection constructs that which does not yet exist. Furthermore, perspective is reliant on a single point that seems to freeze time and movement, while projections suggest a continuous space in which elements are in constant movement.
Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words) The earliest orderly explanation of axonometric projection occurs in a military context, where it was originally used to chart the three-dimensional trajectories of artillery projectiles. Axonometric projection originates in the abstract and instrumental world of the technical disciplines. It is concerned with structure and consistency of measurement. In addition, axonometric combines perspectival view with the measurability and transmissibility of orthographic. In the beginning, axonometric drawing was taught in engineering schools and its progress was closely related to industrial development projection. Furthermore, the use of axonometric projection in architecture expanded the scientific basis for architectural representation.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD
When drawing geometric mountains, it is important to note that the placement of geometric triangles are not at random. They were pre-planned and drawn from the base to the top. To avoid flatness, the triangles should not have the same colour beside each other. Details were needed in constructing the flooring, the top of the castle and the decorative designs. I did not know much about using Illustrator, so it was hard for me to construct non-linear lines. The top of the castle had several different depths therefore I had to pay careful attention of the disticnt perspective the blocks reveal itself. Selecting the different shades of colour was relatively easy as Illustrator offers a colour guide. The hard part was actually trying to colour the artboard because it was mainly made of un-closed shapes.
