MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT
How to measure a crossiant? I started out with a 0.4 pen to draw the outlines of 7 croissant images on se parate tracing papers. Next, I shaded all 7 images on separate tracing papers as well as hatched them on separate tracing paper. In my process of shading, I used different shades of pencil (4B,2B,2H,H) to create depth and shadows, creating a more three-dimensional shading of the croissant images. The hatching technique is a new technique which I had to pick up. I used only a 0.15 pen for my hatches, which ended up making it look quite flat. Therefore, I learnt that I could have used a range of pen thickness to create more depth into the hatching.

NEW MARIO WORLD Elements of mario world is still in there, The making of new Mario world The new Mario world is inspired by the movie ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ (2016). The movie showed Alice going through a ‘Time Dimension’, which was presented in a dark and blue hue realm. The dimension was made up of clock gears as a floating base and gothic castles surrounding a four-cardinal direction walkway. I recreated the scene in my new Mario world and combined it with the landscape of the 2 original Mario images that was given to me. I tried to show the depth of the castles and the mountains by continuing the length of them into an abyss. Furthermore, I used different shades of blue (top of the mountain would be bright blue and the bottom would be dark blue) to give the mountains a three-dimensional look.

First Mario World Drawing. By combining the two orignal mario world that was given to me, I made decisions on how I wanted the blocks and mountains to be placed.
Final World World Drawing. With the first drawing at the bottom, I started drawing the Alice-Inspired World. I made similar arrangements by having the mountains and building drawn at similar areas.
Using Illustrator to add colour. I used different images obtained from pinterest, which provided me a range of palettes. It helped me to easily pick out want shade or colour would match well with what I wanted to achieve

PAPER LANDSCAPE The making of new landscape My paper model is made up of 3 different modules that are placed symmetrically on a 10 x 10 grid. The variation of the 3D panel and the height of the 3 modules was determined by 2 point attractors. The base of the grid was designed with a box 2D panel and the additional use of ‘TriangulateMesh’ command to create varying triangle patterns on each box, which followed the curvature of the landscape. I was trying to achieve a symmetrical city plan with 3 different districts. Each of the different modules is each of its own district. From the picture, it is observed that the NW and SE is one district, NE and SW is another district and the last district is located diagonally in the center in the direction from SW to NE.

INVISIBLE CITY
[Thin Cities 2: Zenobia] The text gave me insight on the difference on how Marco Polo views the city of Zenobia and how the common people view its hometown. To the people, Zenobia is lively and happy city that it decorated with fluttering ribbons and banners. However, Marco Polo feels that the city has lost its identity due to its rapid growth. The quad depicts what the city seems to be and what the city really is. From the text, I envisioned the space to be a large pavilion in a desert, which mainly serves as a common public space. It is decorated with zinc roofing, fluttering ribbons on the eaves and Syrian interior. The movement symbol shows us the footpath of Marco Polo. He first enters the area shown in Perspective 1 and is quickly hurried into other areas of the quad that is shown in Perspective 2. He takes a glance at the small gallery section of the quad. Marco Polo analyses the unnatural calmness of the city’s public space. Frames are used to show areas of interest of Marco Polo. The dark area of the quad, which is partially covered by the bamboo walls, is marked with a threshold. The passageway is the entrance of the quad.

[Perspective 1] Marco Polo is welcomed by the Mayor and his wife. The mayor introduces the city to him and shows him who the queen of Zenobia is (portrait hanging at eye level to show its importance to people’s point of view). He then takes him around to meet the common people of Zenobia. This shows a certain dominance from Zenobia’s founders but later on, the city wants to be portrait in a better light.

[Perspective 2] Here the frontal view seems simple and plan (representing the peace in the city). There are people around having their own conversations, thus showing the liveliness of the public. However, the back of the space is partially covered by temporary bamboo walls. It creates a mysterious vibe as its atmosphere is heavier and darker. The unusual calmness makes Marco Polo uncomfortable.

REFLECTION
Through lectures, I learnt about the different terms of perspective views. I learnt the importance of line weights which are used to delineate sections on architecture drawing. These lectures exposed me to the works of wellknown architects as well as other professionals in the design field. Some of their work inspired me to do research, thus increasing my knowledge and opening my mind to design. Throughout the course, I learnt the importance of developing a design process. To me, a design process includes an inception stage, reasoning/narrative stage and design stage. I felt that my perspectives of module 4 fell short as I had difficulties in developing the narrative of my perspectives. Due to the lack of time I gave myself, in developing a design narrative, the perspectives came out with little design direction to it. In addition, listening to the presentations of my classmates helped me to develop my reasoning and narrative stage. By having a reason to why something is designed in a certain way or creating a narrative to the design process, it can really drive the initial stage of schematic design planning. Module 3 was the most challenging module for me. The main difficulty I had was finalising the printout to cut and make the 3D model as I faced multiple problems with correcting the orientation of my shapes. The root problem of it was due to the similar colour scheme that I had for the front-face and back-face of the panel. As a result, one mistake at the start lead to subsequent problems as I made my 3D panel. I learnt that as a designer, I should continuously problem solve at pick the best design solution for myself to achieve a better result. In this project, I learnt that I should have simplified my design to make the completion date.
