The Role Fast food plays in Society The majority of obesity problems come from fast foods. Also, most of the professionals say that the restaurant that has the biggest effect is McDonalds. The reason why fast foods cause obesity to adults and children, is because it’s cheap, fast, and taste amazing. The only thing good about fast foods is the taste, everything else is very bad for you. Such

as what the foods are made out of. Almost all of the time, what is in the food isn’t real. They are made out of high amounts of artificial flavoring, preserved meats, mounds of sugar and salt, and sometimes even chemicals. Some affects from eating a lot of fast foods (Obesity) are, “high blood pressure, diabetes, joint problem, and heart problems.” Obesity can be

passed on to younger ones even if they eat healthy. This means that Obesity is hereditary.

Why are Fast Foods Popular? The majority of why fast foods are popular is because of their unbelievably amazing taste. That is what draws not just kids in, but adults too! Another reason why is because of the knowledge of the people who eat it. They don’t know what the foods are made

up of. It might look like its real food that you would cook in your kitchen, but it is actually chemically enhanced with either artificial substances or processed goods.

What would surprise people the most about fast foods? The number one thing that would surprise the average fast food eater would be what the food is made of. The food might look like its either normal meat or French fries made from a potato but it’s not. The foods have gone through fac-

tories and are manufactured. For example, the French fries”might” be made from potato’s, but once they reach a factory, they add different ingredients into them, and then freeze them.

What’s in the meat of a typical hamburger? Now days, hamburgers are made in huge factories. Back in the good ol’ days, burgers used to be made out of real beef from a cow. It was never chemically enhanced or anything. In the present

day, hamburgers are made from many different cows and many different parts of the cows. Therefore, if there is meat from a sick cow than there is a higher chance of people getting sick.

How much of fast food is flavored? Now, since almost all of the fast foods are processed, the majority of the flavored is taken out. So, in order for the public to like the foods provided, they add artificial flavor to them. Concluding to that, this helps make the foods unhealthier than they

already are.

What kind of effects does fast food have on the public health? Eating too much fast food is bad for your body. As a result you will become obese. If you become obese because of fast foods, you can be affected in many different ways. Such as, high blood pressure, diabetes, joint problems, and heart problems. The only reason why the foods taste good, is because they add salt, fat, and sugars to them. One statistic shows that if you com-

pare the rise of obese people to the success of the fast food industries, they are parallel to each other. Another statistic is that about 300,000 people die each year of obesity of being overweight.

Website: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/01/31/health/main326858.shtml This website helps a lot because it gives different examples about fast foods. It also looks at fast foods at every angle possible. Meaning that it gives example about fast food in a variety of different ways. (Examples are shown through my secondary paragraphs) Local: Contact a local fast food restaurant For the local source, I called a McDonalds and talked to them about how the food is handled before it reaches the restaurant. The phone number for this McDonalds was, (314)-771-2575. And it is located on 1919 S Jefferson Ave. St. Louis. This is a reliable source because you’re talking with a specific Fast Food Restaurant. National: FDA There are two different parts of the FDA, one part watches over specifically restaurants, and the other side watches over foods that are, processed, re-packaged, frozen, etc. (Any food that is handled after it is shipped) You can contact and get a lot of information about this topic at 1-888-723-3366. School: Read the book, “Fast Food Nation” I find this book to be extremely helpful. The book mainly gives statistics about fast foods and what they can do to a persons health. The book was written by a guy named Eric Schlosser. For example, roughly 12% of all American have worked at a McDonalds. This is a very reliable source because, just like the website did, it looks at fast foods with a variety of different ways.
