At Michaan’s in August, a trove of fabulous estate jewelry and timepieces includes the jewel-encrusted platinum pendant watch, Edwardian and Art Deco diamonds, a sterling brooch by William Spratling and a Patek Philippe wristwatch. Fine gent’s jewelry is also highlighted. Period treasures include the Belle Époque pearl and gemstone brooch and the carved coral cameo. Charles Partridge Adams (1858-1942), painter of sun-drenched Western landscapes, is a featured American artist, as is Sam Gilliam, the first African American artist to represent the US in the Venice Biennale. Gilliam’s abstract lithograph on handmade paper is offered at $2,000-3,000. Highlights in Asian art include an antique Tibetan thangka, Chinese cloisonné, carved jade, and “Boy and Birds” by acclaimed Japanese painter Kazu Wakita (1908-2005). Estate furnishings range from George III, Biedermeier and Renaissance Revival to mid-century Danish teak. The etched bronze waterfall coffee table is by Philip and Kelvin Laverne ($2,500-3,500).
