Skin

The system of the object is using string (the bone) tension to keep the the skin place. On the other hand, loosening the tension is going to ‘freeform’ the skin.

Tension decrease

Plan

The spring is the tool for increasing the descreasing the tension of the strings

MOUDLE 1 MEASURE DRAWINGS

Skin and Bones Section There are four strings inside the skins to hold the whole object. Each strings is placed in each legs (four) and then they will meet together at the bottom of the neck towards the head.

When the spring is expanding without any net force acting on it, the string will has enough tension and space to keep the skins place.

Scale 1:2

Each of the skin has an about 1 mm long hole for the string going through. Because the string has much thinner width, so each of the the skin might move around romdomly between the distance of 1 mm

When the spring is having a compressive forces at the bottom, the spring will lose its tension force. So the skin will fall with romdom direction.

MODULE 1 IDEATION

Rhino

This is the final model I have made by using the software “Rhino”.

MODULE 1 IDEATION

RECONFIGURAION

In this task, I was trying to reconfigure the object. I was using the idea of Plesiosaur to see if the tension of the strings can support a longer neck but having a shorter of its base (legs). Fall down with its weight.

The object stays the same as it origin. Four strings will still connect with four legs, and the model was quite successful. The tension of the strings are able to hole the skin place and stand. However, the neck of the object is too long, so it will fall by the gravity.

The tension is too weak to hole the model.

Because the first modeling is quite similar to the original object, so I decided to reconfigure another model. This time I only used one skin to form the base, but there are three string with skins will spread out on the above which is like a flower. Unfortunately, the strings are not enough to hole the skin, so the modeling was failed.

MODULE 1 IDEATION

IDEA OF SECOND SKIN

The First idea of the second skin with the characteristic of skin and bone is a movable shoulder pad. Same as my object before, it will has a string connected between my wrist. Therefore when I move my elbow, the string will has a tension force to move the shoulder pad.

Inside the shoulder pad

When the elbow has moved and giving a tension force from the string to the joint of the pad, the pad will move as shown.

MODULE 1 IDEATION

IDEA OF SECOND SKIN

There are totally five joints in this bone system, and each of those joints can provide a flexibility to the wing. The bone of this second skin can use metal such as steel (light but strong). The skin can use the material like fabric so it can be fold.

The second idea of the second skin is a wing which can wear at the back. The skin and bone will be represented by the flexibility of it. The idea of this skin and bone is from the characteristic of an umbrella which content joints so the object can change in shape. Each of the joints can be rotated like above.

MODULE 1 IDEATION

IDEA OF SECOND SKIN

The spring system will be like this which is similar to the object I have chosen before.

The third idea is also based on the theory of tension. This time the second skin will be a bracelet, and it is placed to fit the wrist by using a spring to create a tension to the string. So, each part of the bracelet will be held by the strings.

Therefore, the bracelet can be removed from the wrist easily. When you try to put it on, you can use the same process.

Easily, when you give a compression to the spring, it will be contracted and the spring will provide more space for the string so the bracelet will spread out.
