Logos are very important because it’s used as a promotion for a product or a company. In other words, I can say that logo is the identity of a company or a product. My client think that a logo should be simple, to make it easy to remember

Case Study Summary I looked at 3 different Logos. One is Restaurant’s Logo (McDonalds), one is Toy’s Logo (Monopoly), and one is Car’s Logo (Mitsuoka). I learned that logos are created in different ways. And everything in the logo is made with purpose, nothing is accidental. Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Research McDonalds The famous McDonalds Logo was created in 1962 by Jim Schindler. It was introduced by Dick and Mac McDonald. They have an arch shaped sign on the side of their new outlet. From one side, the arch looked like letter M, so they created McDonald’s logo as 2 golden arches joined together. The McDonald’s name was later added in 1968.
Firefox
Firefox is actually a red panda but the logo of firefox is a fox. According to Jon Hicks, the panda “didn’t really conjure up the right imagery” and wasn’t widely known. The logo was chosen to stand out, easy to remember and doesn’t cause too much distraction, and not overdone. Tuesday, December 13, 2011
FedEx
FedEx logo has won many awards, over 40 awards worldwide. The creator of this logo said that this is the most famous logo he has ever designed in terms of sheer ubiquity. Their designs of FedEx are over 200 and the current logo is 1 of the 6 semifinalist. FedEx logo is also known for the hidden arrow between the letter E and X. The arrow symbolizes speed and precision.

Summary of Research I focused my research on different types of logos, reasons for making the logo, and meaning of each logo. I chose McDonald, Firefox, and FedEx, because they have famous symbol. Each of these logos have different characteristic to it, this characteristic is what people like about these logos. These logos have different impacts on their company. For example, FedEx. The secret arrow that they put there makes people think that FedEx is going to be fast and precise even though they didn’t notice the arrow. The McDonald’s symbol reminds people of the fast-food restaurant that sells burgers and french fries. When they see the logo on newspaper, they will think of McDonald and this is the example of promotion using logo.

Impacts on Environment and Society Impacts on Environment Creating logos means using softwares on computer, the computer needs electricity. Sometimes we burn fossil fuels to generate electricity. The CO2 from the fossil fuel will damage the environment
Impacts on Society Logos are used to promote something.Their main purpose is to be something that will remind people about one particular thing when they see the logo. It’s going to impact the society because when they see the logo that I’ll be creating, students of SWA will think of the design cycle and the IB learner profile

Design Brief I’ll be designing and creating some new logos for SWA. There’re some process I’ll be going through which is Investigation, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluation. First 3 steps is going to be brief and short and we’re going to spend more time on creating the logos so we can get the best logo we could make.

When comparing my IB Learner profile with McDonald’s logo I saw several difference. My IB Learner Profile logos have a cartoon characters for almost every logo but McDonald’s only have their logo (Yellow Arc) and the McDonald’s writing. McDonald’s logo is very simple but appealing at the same time. Some of my logo is too complicated and might be confusing (not clear) Tuesday, December 13, 2011

When comparing my Design Cycle logos to FedEx logo, I saw a very big difference between them. FedEx logo only have 2 color and my logos are meant to have lots of color. FedEx logo is only made from alphabets yet my logos have a very minimum writing to it. My logo is made with the theme “Circle. So every logo have a circular base and the pictures inside might sometimes overlap the base. FedEx logo is only a writing with a specialized fonts to contain the hidden message. Final Chosen Design I chose the Design Cycle Reasons: In making the sketch for Design Cycle logos. I took more time to make those designs. Which means that I focused more on the Design Cycle. The designs are also better for me. They all have the same theme (circular shape). They will look better if posted somewhere. Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Yes, because every step needed is there. I also add some steps that might be added later Could it be followed by someone else ?
Yes, and very easily Have I used all the resources available to me?
No. I can make the Step by Step using computer but I chose to use paper and marker to do it. Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Evaluating My Performance At Each Stage Of Design Cycle •
Investigation Investigation is the first step of design cycle where we do research so that we understand what do we need to do later. I did interview with my client about what a logo should look like and what does logo do to society. Then I conduct a research about some famous logos in the world and make some case study from them. I did well in this stage and I know what I want to do and get as a final product by the end of this project.
•
Design In this stage I design 15 designs on paper. 5 of them were Design Cycle and 10 were IB learner profile. I compared these designs with the logo in my research. I think I could improve by spending more time writing the pros and cons of each designs. I think I did pretty well since the time given is quite short.
•
Plan
•
This is the stage where I planned my work. I make timeline using the gantt chart and I create the step by step. The step by step showed how I make the designs in the Design Stage. The timeline I created is not accurate and I need to improve on making the gantt chart.
•
Create
•
I made the documented evidences. The documented evidences is the screenshot of my work as I work on them. I took screenshot if I made any significant changes then I chose which one to put in the documented evidence. I used Adobe Photoshop CS4 in creating the logos. I had some difficulties since this is the first time I used the software. But the final product doesn’t have much difference with the designs and I’m quite satisfied with the final product.
•
Evaluation
•
I evaluated my work and the process that I went through. I state how my work will impact the society and where to improve. I also did a test comparing my logos to a logo I researched at the beginning of this project.

Modification/ Improvements •
My final logo is too complicated. I think I could improve by creating a more simple logos.
•
This is the first time I used Adobe Photoshop. I think I could improve in the next project using photoshop because I could learn some more advanced techniques that will help me with making the logo.
Impact on Society These logos are created for the Design Cycle Logos and will be used around the school. So this will have an impact on the students around the school. If this logo is used for the design cycle, students around the school will be reminded of the design cycle. This logo is going to be in every IT Design Cycle Assignments all over the school.
