BRIEF

“GIRL WITH THE GUN.” “Girl with the gun” is a scene I wish to recreate inspired by the photographer Helmut Newton for my Mise En Scene project. Taking inspiration from the film “Nil by mouth” I intend on protraying a dramatic scene using the same conventions and moods found in the film “Nil by mouth”. Through out the scene I will show cutaways of the bedroom, kitchen and lounge. The woman in the scene is the main character for this project but in order to make the story flow I will introduce a male character as her intoxicated, abusive partner. A relationship which revolves around sex, drugs and alcohol will only end up tragic.

BRIEF

MISE EN SCENE Evaluation: My starting point for this body of work was influenced by my desire to test my creative skills by picking the fashion photography image “Girl With The Gun” by Helmut Newton. In my second year I attempted a drama piece for and really enjoyed the creative process and wanted to push the boundaires by attempting it again in such a short amount of time (1 MINUTE). Researching films one inpaticular “Nil by Mouth” took me into a different realm of videography and understanding film language. Taking time out to study scenes from “Nil by mouth” I paid close attention to shots used which I practiced. Overall I am pleased with the outcome of my Mise En Scene project. I feel as if I could of developed on it by having a much structed script as well as lighting.

SOUND I did not use a boom mic or any sort for the project except the built in mic on my DSLR camera. I feel as if this was really risky but worked in this case as it was filmed in a pretty much decent location with little to none ambience sounds interferring. For the gun sound fx one of the actors accidently dropped the gun whilst I was filming and during production I tweaked the audio to make the sound of the plastic gun falling on the wooden flooring sound like a gun shot.
