Crime Down 18.5% in Redhill & Northbourne Local bobby Sgt. Steve Houston said crime in Redhill & Northbourne was down a massive 18.5% from last year. Sgt. Houston was speaking at a meeting of the Wallisdown, Winton West & Ensbury Park Area Forum.
Results for The Bourne Academy The Bourne Academy has been placed 6th in a group of 55 similar schools for the progress made by it’s pupils.
Sgt. Houston said that his team needed to continue to work harder on areas such parking issues in Canford Road / Canford Avenue, break-ins to allotments, stopping mopeds driving on Slades Farm and bicycle theft.
The school is becoming more and more popular with parents. Years 7 & 8 are already full and there is huge interest for September 2014. Last year the school recorded its best ever GCSE results, with 59 per cent of students gaining at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C including English and Maths.
New priorities have been set for the Safer Neighbourhood Team covering Redhill & Northbourne which include tackling anti-social behaviour on Canford Avenue and Slades Farm field. They will patrol the areas regularly and work with other agencies to resolve issues.
In the meantime Hill View Primary has been rated as ‘good’ following an inspection by OFSTED in December.
Potholes, Potholes Everywhere
Also at the meeting was Dorset Police & Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill who said that crime across Dorset was down 8%. Underhill re-committed himself to ensuring every police officer has a bodyworn camera and a new mobile data system which would see local bobbies issued with iPads by the end of the year .
Potholes have been appearing across Redhill & Northbourne as wet weather persists. Bournemouth Council estimates the cost of repairing the roads across the borough could be around £25,600.
Bournemouth Lib Dems Support Campaign for Living Wage At a recent meeting of Bournemouth Lib Dems a resolution was unanimously passed supporting the campaign of Living Wage Dorset to encourage employers to pay an hourly rate which meets employees’ basic cost of living. The Living Wage campaign was launched in 2001 by parents in East London who were frustrated that working two minimum wage jobs left no time for family life. The scheme is entirely voluntary and has experienced a number of successes in the county with Dorchester Town Council signing up in October and Bournemouth & Poole College in November last year. Cllr Roger West said “We are a party of social justice and fairness and, having discussed it, our executive unanimously agreed to support the campaign. The Living Wage is not only good for workers and their families but good for businesses and the economy. It increasing productivity and the extra money for

families goes back into the economy and creates jobs. In short it helps to create a fairer society and a stronger economy and that’s what we want to promote as Liberal Democrats.” Lib Dem Youth Officer and local of Redhill Michael Chizlett said: “With a minimum wage of just £5.03 per hour for 18 to 20 year olds, £3.72 for those under 18, and a shocking £2.68 for apprentices under 19 or in the first year of their apprenticeship, the national minimum wage discriminates against young people. It also hits the poorest young people hardest; those who cannot rely on the bank of mum and dad to help them out. I am very glad that we have voted to support the Living Wage and I will be campaigning for it.” Approximately 4.7 million UK employees are paid less than the living wage (2011). If the Living Wage was implemented nation-wide earnings would rise by £6.5 billion.

Cllr West Fights for Park Home Residents Local councillor Roger West continues to fight hard for residents of Bournemouth’s park homes. Roger is particularly concerned to seek reassurance of the stability of a steep bank between the Kingfisher and Wheatplot sites (pictured left). Roger is investigating. During the recent storms Roger also visited all 5 park home sites in Redhill & Northbourne concerned about potential flooding. Site rules and governance is another area of concern with reports by residents of Doveshill Park that the site owner refuses to recognise the Bournemouth Park Homes Residents Association and has changed park rules without consultation Park Homes on edge—Cllr West seeks reassurance of the stability of Kingfisher bank
Other issues Roger is pursuing include the uneven paths at Doveshill Park site and pedestrian and vehicular access to the Redhill Park and Wheatplot sites.
3 million jobs — Billions in Trade. Europe Matters. Lib Dem MEP Graham Watson has been working hard to support local businesses and to bring new investment to Dorset. Graham Watson says, “Lib Dem MEPs have helped deliver new trade deals and to cut red tape for local businesses - helping them to grow.” “Europe is crucial to growth and building British trade up with countries around the world. Billions of pounds of investment comes to Britain each year because we are part of Europe. A recent poll found that 8 out of 10 businesses want to stay in the EU because of the benefits.” Businesses across the UK are horrified at the idea that Britain should pull out of the EU as UKIP and many Con-
servatives are arguing. Nearly three quarters of leading business people say it would be bad for the economy. “Put simply it’s in Europe, in work or out of Europe, out of work,” added Graham. “Over three million jobs are linked to Europe and billions of pounds of trade is generated from EU trade agreements.” “The Lib Dems want Britain to stay in Europe so that we can deliver more jobs and growth here in Britain.” “Of course the EU can work better. That’s why Lib Dems are fighting to reform it. But Conservative and UKIP plans to pull out would damage our economic recovery.”
“Every family would be £3,500 worse off if Britain left the EU, business chiefs warn” - Daily Mail Online

EU leads battle against Climate Change
The European Union has been a world leader in the fight to limit carbon emissions and so tackle the growing threat of climate change. The EU has helped Lib Dem Ministers keep the UK on track against climate change deniers in the Conservatives and UKIP.
