Introduction What you have in your hands is something you probably did not even know existed, and that is the point. This section of an old book, published in 1911 by the now defunct American Book Company is but one example of a hidden revenue stream available to you. This book was written by Frank G. Carpenter who wrote a lot of similarly themed books like “How the word is fed” and “How the world is clothed”. It is as interesting now as it was back then. There are countless books that are lost in the stacks of Libraries, at Universities, schools and in Publishers warehouses – maybe even in your own home. Unknown and unrecognized as this book is, someone out there wants to read it and values the information inside it, and wishes they knew it existed. Amazon, Google get it – but not too many Publishers realize that these books are like a buried treasure. The ability to search via the Internet implemented a new way to introduce buyers to sellers – do you have book that someone wants to buy, if only they knew of it and could get a copy? Here is a brief description of the issues related to take a hard copy book and get it ready for print which also prepares the book for online browsing. Although it is not a “step by step / how to” or exhaustive tutorial, it explains the basic concepts of how to scan and adjust the image of a page for digital printing. Once the book is digital, you are just a few mouse clicks away from making it Google-able. I have included both the original un-altered scans as well as pages that have been modified and processed using our ELAN Book Scanning Solution. If you want to learn more about the system used to process this book and making it searchable, visit www.elan-gmk.com I hope you find the few pages I created here informative.
