SIOUX CITY BUSH SHELTER DB

sioux city, iowa, usa | iowa state university | lead designer

Parameters: As a service project, we were asked to design a prototype bus shelter for the city of Sioux City, IA.

The design for the shelters is centred on a series of layered typologies. The first layer, structure, is based on the locally prominent building types: “Storefront” (blue) & “Industrial” (yellow). The second layer is the result of studying local architecture patterns: Buxton (blue) & Elmslie (yellow).

After our initial design process we worked closely with local steel manufacturers to laser cut and powder coat the panels. The project was finished and installed in August of 2007.
