Trustees approve naming, ‘Milt and Jean Cole Family Wellness and Fitness Center’ September 2012 The Indiana University Board of Trustees approved the official name for the IU Kokomo wellness and fitness center, set to open next summer. It will be known as the “Milt and Jean Cole Family Wellness and Fitness Center”, and will house a jogging and walking track, cardio and strength training area, two multipurpose rooms, a health studies classroom, locker rooms, and a reception area. The name honors the $1.25 million gift the Cole family donated for the center, to be constructed in the ground floor of the Library. This is the largest cash gift in campus history.
Welcome!
“I am extremely grateful and appreciative of the Cole family, whose shared vision for this campus makes a facility like this possible,” said Chancellor Michael Harris. “This wellness and fitness center is essential to the future growth of this campus. It will impact thousands of people for years to come with health and educational opportunities as a result of this center,” he added. In addition to Milt and Jean Cole, the family includes Keith and Carmella Cole, and Randy and Candy Cole. They are owners of Cole Hardwood in Logansport. Construction on the 20,500-square-foot facility will begin later this year, and Harris expects a grand opening in July or August of 2013. The new center allows opportunities to offer additional allied health majors – such as sports medicine and athletic training – and provides year-round training space for athletes. I am thrilled that our campus is becoming a more traditional campus, as I have personally learned that it is education that opens doors to allow one to reach one’s full potential professionally. It is exciting to see all the young adults making IU Kokomo their university! The campus is alive, and as IU Kokomo experiences record growth, the look of the student body is changing. As an alumni network, we are striving to quickly adapt to these changes. Our newest alumni have earned their IU degree and now must compete in one of the most difficult job markets this country has seen. It is the goal of IUKAA, as established alumni, to assist these younger and well-trained alumni in establishing themselves as professionals. Assisting begins with reaching out to the IUKAA and becoming a member. Email us at alumni@iuk.edu or call 765-455-9457. We want to give each of you an opportunity to become engaged with your alma mater. Watch for more information on opportunities to do so. IU Kokomo is a campus on the move and we want you to be a part of the success!
Go IU!

The Pavilion
The Welcome Center
Campus Beautification
This 40-foot-wide and 30-foot-deep structure stands on the east side of the Hunt Hall parking lot. On May 8 of this year, the Pavilion hosted the 2012 IU Kokomo Commencement exercise. It will be host to future concerts and community events.
The new welcome center opened in April and serves as the first impression for guests of our campus. It is located in lower Alumni Hall and replaces what was affectionately known as the “bunker”.
An initiative that began shortly after Chancellor Michael Harris arrived, campus beautification has transformed the environment into an inviting and vibrant campus.
