A High Concept Proposal

“Discovery consists of seeing what everyone else has seen and thinking what no one else has thought.” Charles Kettering, inventor of the electric starter

“My first impulse on taking any apparatus into my hand, from an eggbeater to an electric motor, is to seek a way of improving it.” Thomas Edison, inventor of the incandescent light

“I may be small, but I’ve got a big brain!” Jimmy Neutron, boy genius ®

The National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) presents five high concept ideas designed to highlight the assets of both Nickelodeon and NIHF. In doing so, brand awareness and value will be enhanced for both organizations. In the following pages, concepts are presented in five areas: • Interstitials • Jimmy Neutron Inventors Club • Jimmy Neutron Invention Challenge • Museum Jimmy Labs • Nickelodeon/NIHF mall events

Interstitials

A series of interstitials or events featuring the animated Jimmy interacting with real live inventors can serve as program teasers, educational content shorts, and inspiration for Jimmy admirers.

BRAINBLAST! From a satellite built from a toaster to the Hubble Space Telescope… From flying amusement park rides to flying wings… From a device to make you small to devices small enough to be implanted in you…. From Jimmy Neutron to NIHF inductees, all impossibilities are possible.

Jimmy Neutron Inventors Club

The Jimmy Neutron Inventors Club, an Internet-based series of challenges designed to bring the excitement of invention to elementary-aged children.

BRAINBLAST! Brian, a 10-year old with BIG ideas, logs on to www.jimmyclub.com and prints the challenge of the week: Create a device that will allow his friend to figure out when she’s most likely to have an asthma attack. Brian then links to www.invent.org to check with NIHF inductees, Dr. Helen Free (inventor of self-testing for glucose) and Dr. Forrest Bird (inventor of the respirator) about medical testing and problem solving. Curious kids + Inventor inductees = INCREDIBLE INVENTIVENESS

Jimmy Neutron Invention Challenge

Elementary schools compete to win a school visit from Jimmy Neutron by demonstrating the most inventive prototype solution to a provided challenge.

BRAINBLAST! Mrs. Thinkquik’s fourth grade class of seriously space-obsessed students are putting the finishing touches on their Mars rocket-bus prototype with the help of NIHF’s knowhow and Jimmy Neutron’s zest for everyday inventiveness. Working as a team, seeing with new eyes, and remembering Jimmy’s mantra that “all great inventions need a test run” have led this fourth grade group of savvy designers to the brink of competition success.

Museum Jimmy Labs

Museum-based Jimmy Labs in which families test their inventive skills and creative ideas to build imaginative prototype inventions.

BRAINBLAST! William and Sharyn have finally convinced grandpa to take them to the local science center to visit the Jimmy Lab — Jimmy Neutron being the coolest inventor on the planet. Working together as a family, they construct a prototype bed-making device, worthy of Sir James Isaac Neutron!

BRAINBLAST! I’m bored…there’s nothing to do…we already did that! Nickelodeon and NIHF will have children stop crying the “what are we going to do today” blues using a double whammy of cartoon characters and hands-on activities. Have your picture taken with Dora? Design your own bodacious bubble blower? Buy new underwear? It’s all possible during Nick Family Invent — coming to a shopping mall near you!

The National Inventors Hall of Fame The goal of the National Inventors Hall of Fame is simple: to promote creativity, advance the spirit of innovation, and recognize inventors everywhere. In addition to honoring America’s greatest inventors, NIHF runs programs to enhance the inventiveness and creativity of children. Camp Invention, with a target audience of children ages 7-11, is running summer camps in 42 states and reaching 40,000 campers in 2003 with an innovative hands-on curriculum. Campers design fantasy inventions, find their way home from an uncharted and inhospitable planet, and become video game designers creating the next hot piece of software. The newest addition to the camp family is Club Invention, an afterschool program modeled after Camp Invention. ®
