GLIMPSE Julia Roberts
5th September to 26th October 2014
Julia Roberts - GLIMPSE GLIMPSE is an exhibition of oil paintings that focuses on the twisted seductive form of the Angophora Costata or Sydney Red Gum. This collection of work explores the way I experience and subsequently remember elements of landscape. By isolating glimpses of the trees against emotive backdrops I aim to capture the true essence and memory of the landscape. To me the most beautiful view in the world is water or bush seen through the boughs of a beautiful twisted Angophora. Julia Roberts, 2014 www.studioroberts.com

Julia Roberts Julia Roberts attended the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney whilst studying a Fine Arts degree at the University of Sydney. An early convert to the luscious possibilities of oil paint she then went on to immerse herself in a BA in Painting at the prestigious Chelsea school of Art in London. Roberts has exhibited her paintings extensively in London, Sydney and Singapore. Since returning to live permanently in Sydney in 2008 she has continued to paint Eucalypts and the forests of South Eastern Australia. Her work is constantly evolving, exploring new ways to capture the experience of the Australian landscape and challenging the accepted representation of the iconic Eucalypts that inspire her. “This new collection of work explores the way I experience and subsequently remember elements of landscape. By isolating glimpses of Eucalyptus trees against emotive backdrops I aim to capture the true essence and memory of the Australian landscape. The qualities of the Angophora that never fail to captivate me are the fleshy hues of the bark and the contorted twisted shapes of the branches. In these recent paintings I have been looking very closely at the seductive surface quality of the majestic trunks and limbs. To me the most beautiful view in the world is water or bush seen through the boughs of a beautiful twisted Angophora. www.studioroberts.com
