Meet our Chief Marketing Officer

Chanté Blough

During a monthlong getaway to Sarasota with her family amid the pandemic in 2020, Chanté Blough, then a Chicago real estate marketing executive, found herself intrigued by the Michael Saunders & Company signs she saw planted in front of so many magnificent homes.

“I thought to myself, ‘Who is this Michael guy?’ “I looked it up right away and read her story,” Chanté said of CEO Michael Saunders, who founded the company that bears her name in 1976. “Then I told my husband, ‘I’m going to work at that company one day.’ I was fascinated by Michael’s journey and the values of the company.”

Just three years later, in August 2023, the 38-year-old seized an opportunity to become Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for the esteemed brokerage. Today, she oversees planning, development and execution of the company’s brand strategy, advertising, public relations, promotions and online presence. Known for her steadfast determination and relentless work ethic, Chanté’s ability to quickly land her dream job likely didn’t surprise her family and friends, who describe her as tenacious, driven, hardworking and thoughtful.

“She’s a very focused, goal-driven and creative woman and a dedicated mother to two beautiful girls,” said her mother, Michelle Bohn. “No task is too big of a challenge for her.”

In her role as CMO, Chanté works closely with the marketing and leadership teams, meets a few hours weekly with Saunders, addresses sales meetings and occasionally joins agents during their listing presentations to prospective sellers. She is also involved in overseeing the company’s new website and intranet, working alongside an internal team and development partner.

A life-long learner with a desire to expand her marketing and business development knowledge, Chanté enrolled in a challenging master’s degree program at Northwestern University while she was working full-time at Groupon and expecting her first daughter.

“Masters in product development and design management is the name of my degree, but a better way to describe it is business innovation,” she states. “It was all about learning empathy, thinking of the customer experience, and designing accordingly. It truly changed my life and changed who I am as a leader, solidifying my need to understand the end game.”

“Life can be tough, but when you have people who love you and care about you, you can do absolutely anything.”

One of the most fulfilling aspects of her job so far has been contributing to discussions about the brokerage’s future plans.

“Michael and [company president] Drayton Saunders are very involved in the business and are intentionally growing the leadership team that will guide us successfully into the future,” Chanté said. “Michael Saunders & Company is already a legacy brand; I like to think of it as the Chanel of real estate. You see something from Chanel, and you know it’s Chanel, but they don’t send the same things down the runway twice a year. Our brand can be established while also being forward-thinking and trend-setting. I’m excited to be a part of that journey.”

Before joining the company, Chanté honed her strategic marketing and leadership skills at two large national companies, Groupon and real estate brokerage Compass. Most recently, she served as director of marketing for Compass’s Illinois region and head of operations for their Wisconsin and Minnesota regions. Before joining Compass, Chanté held several high-level roles with Groupon, including overseeing the merchandising and marketing calendar for all North American projects, where she honed her digital marketing skills.

Chanté’s determination and ambition are rooted in her upbringing and the inspiring example set by her mother, who wanted to provide her daughter with every opportunity possible to thrive socially and educationally. Not wanting to waste any opportunity given to her is why Chanté endured a twohour commute each way every day from kindergarten through eighth grade to a magnet school that offered a better education than the one in her own neighborhood.

“I learned responsibility at an early age,” she said, “and my family was always supportive of my dreams and served as an example of how to work hard. They taught me that when you say you’re going to do something, people are relying on you, and you keep your word. No excuses.”

Although exposed to real estate from a young age, attending open houses and showings with her agent grandmother, Chanté’s career path to the industry wasn’t immediate. After graduating from Columbia College in Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in arts, film and video, she moved to Los Angeles. There, she dedicated herself to 16-hour workdays in the film industry – initially in talent management and later in film production. The experience boosted her work ethic and imparted valuable lessons that would later prove beneficial in her real estate career.

“It taught me what it meant to create relationships and earn trust,” she said. “People are just people, no matter how much money they make. I think that helps me feel comfortable speaking with top agents or clients who have enormous success and wealth.”

Michael Saunders is thrilled to have Chanté on her leadership team commenting that she is a wonderful addition to the firm and is already making a difference as CMO. “Not only does Chanté have a strong background across all facets of marketing, she also embodies our company values and commitment to delivering exceptional service to our agents and customers,” Saunders said.

“Our agents and their clients – from Anna Maria to Lakewood Ranch to Sarasota to Boca Grande – all have different needs and unique challenges,” Chanté added. “Our job as the marketing team is to be able to exceed expectations and have their needs met, and constantly be thinking 10, if not 50, steps ahead. Anticipating needs and delivering an incredible experience is the goal.”

Chante’s strengths include building things, diving into data and analytics, caring for the people she works with – looking for opportunities for her team to grow and learn something new, and staying calm in stressful situations. “I like to think my sense of humor can take the edge off certain situations, but maybe that’s just me,” she says with a smile. It often does.

Chanté said her husband and best friend, Chris, is enormously supportive. Together, they cherish spending time at the beach or pool with their daughters, Keaton and Monroe. In December 2023, a year after losing their son through stillbirth, she and Chris started The Hopewell Collective, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to supporting families who have experienced stillbirth. They are currently gearing up their first fundraiser. Chante and her husband are also happy to announce the impending arrival of their newest family member, a son.
