Building Systems 2 Anton Martinez
Critic: Anton Martinez with Elias Matar Team: Yuval Borochov, Debbie Lin, Jessica Helfand-Talley Project: Design of an Industrial Loft Building Our design efforts focused on providing a lattice for crawling plants to grow over the facade of the building, giving access to light and air filtered through green plants to the majority of spaces in the building. Artists working within the building are supported by a variety of production and display spaces for individual and collaborative work. Integral to this are the public gallery spaces and access within the building which allow artists to promote their work to a wide audience, while the public can learn production techniques. The plants are supported on a lattice over tension cables, supported by steel struts which connect it back to the building structure at the floor levels. An aluminum cover conceals the cable connections and a sprinkler system to water the plants. The cables keep the external structure light weight, and their flexibility allows for variety within a simple diamond-shape formal vocabulary across the facade.

Critic: Robert Condon Team: John Becker, Yuval Borochov, Debbie Lin Project: Analysis of Ingalls Hockey Rink by Eero Saarinen The Ingalls Hockey Rink at Yale University is an elegant but complicated structure of concrete arches and steel tension cables, enclosing the hockey rink in a single, column-free space. We analyzed and diagrammed the dead and live load paths through the structure to the ground, through overall sections, connection details, and isometric projections.

Enclosures and Environments 2 - Fall 2008
Critic: Fiona Cousins Team: Yuval Borochov, Naomi Ocko, Rajiv Fernandez Project: Acoustically Isolated Box The challenge was to fabricate a box, no bigger than 24”x24”x24”, with maximum sound damping for minimal material weight. We made an 18” diameter cylinder of 2” thick rigid insulating foam, sealed with tape and lined with a layer of mattress foam. Our box had the best dampening-to-weight ratio of our class. Enclosures and Environments 1 - Spring 2008 Critics: Mayine Wu and Bill Suk Team: Yuval Borochov, Naomi Ocko, Rajiv Fernandez
Project: Detail Drawings and Mock-up of Metal Panel Facade System Our team designed, detailed, and mocked-up a diamondshaped metal panel facade system for a hotel. The system incorporates a rain screen with an insulated back-up wall, installed on a concrete structure. We detailed the entire envelope, including solid enclosure and diamond-shaped windows that would fit into our system.
