Adv. Curtain Walls Robert Heintges

Inspired by the work of artist Heather Hutchinson, particularly the material depth of her paintings, this curtain wall system seeks to celebrate both the beauty and functionality of a double-skin system. The exterior skin is structurally glazed low-iron glass, giving the building a monolithic glass surface with minimal aluminum framing on the exterior. At the interior, slumped and tinted IGUs give depth and color to the air spaces responsible for the high technical performance of the system. Air is circulated in and out through the sides of the aluminum mullions, behind the structural silicone glazing. The cavity is accessed for maintenance through the operable interior framing, allowing for cleaning and upkeep of all the surfaces without a catwalk. The result is a simple application of a double-skin system that showcases the sculptural possibilities of glass.
