Because if you’re going to apply makeup, you might as well do it with care. 'mineral makeup care' is a collection of skincare-powered makeup that is as good on the inside as it looks on the outside - thanks to the naturally hydrating qualities of Dead Sea minerals and the age-resistant powers of Dunaliella algae.

Landscapes from Beyond the Horizon, photo by Helmut R. Schulze

The L.A Mayer Museum for Islamic Art is hosting a new photography exhibition; Afghanistan: Landscapes from Beyond the Horizon, photographed and curated by Helmut R. Schulze. In his journeys across Afghanistan, a land of wild landscapes and bitter wars, Schulze portrays stunning views and its people, their daily lives and hardships. Helmut R. Schulze, a renowned German photo journalist, was born in 1929 in Bad Liebenwerda (Germany) and currently lives in Heidelberg. Since the 1970s he has photographed many wellknown politicians worldwide. He accompanied the former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, Federal German Republic Presidents Richard von Weizsäcker and Roman Herzog, former Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Foreign Minister HansDietrich Genscher during important travels at home and abroad. His reports and snapshots dealing with politics, countries and people from all continents were published in various German and international periodicals such as Der Spiegel, Time, Bunte, Welt am Sonntag etc. Mr. Schulze visited Afghanistan several times between 2002 and 2008 during all four seasons. He and his small team travelled about 4.000 kilometers throughout the country in an ill-equipped car. The team accompanied military patrols to far away and desolate villages where he photographed breathtaking landscapes from the ground and while flying in a helicopter.

The Museum of the History of Tel AvivYaffo

The Centennial Year of Tel Aviv Yaffo has ended with the festive opening of the Museum of the History of Tel Aviv-Yaffo. This museum, located in the old majestic municipal building will exhibit documents, artifacts and thousands of photographs – many of which were collected in a special “Revealing the Hidden City” project designed to preserve historic photos, including pictures from private albums and family collections which

depict the many facets of the history of Tel Aviv. The Museum, located in the heart of Tel Aviv, used to house the old municipality building of the city in its early days. The old mayor’s office, originally of Meir Dizengoff, Tel Aviv’s first mayor, has been restored to its former glory, and offers a breathtaking view across and down Bialik Street. Also on Bialik Street are the Bauhaus and Reuben Reuven (artist) Museums as well as the Bialik Museum (dedicated to the former national poet of Israel). Combine a visit to a couple of these places and you can easily spend half a day in the area. Museum of the History of Tel Aviv Yaffo, 27 Bialik St. Tel Aviv Yaffo, Tel: (03) 5173052

Jan 29

The 2010 Israman and Half-Israman races will be held Jan. 29, 2010 in the coastal resort town of Eilat. Israman and Half Israman are the country’s premier long-distance triathlon races. Each race features a swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea, a challenging climb up into the Eilat Mountains and a run through downtown Eilat. The Course Swim: The swim takes place in the placid waters of the Red Sea. The temperature of the water in January is mild (20-22 degrees Celcius) yet the swim is wet-suit legal. The course is in the bay parallel to the coastline and consists of four out and back loops for the full Ironman and two for the 1/2. Don't forget to catch a glimpse of the beautiful fish as you swim over

the coral reefs. Bike:The bike is definitely the most challenging and unique aspect of the Israman. It begins with a steep 15 kilometer climb from Eilat into the mountains, going from sea level to 700 meters above sea level. The remainder of the ride takes place in the rolling hills of the mountains that overlook Eilat and the Arava valley, a region known for heavy gusts of winds that can reach up to 60 kilometers per hour, though the average is 35-40 kilometers. The return from the turnaround point is known to be one of the most challenging aspects of the course. The full Ironman goes out to the 80 kilometer point, turns around, rides 19 kilometers back (southward) and then turns around again, returns to the 80 kilometer point (now the 118 kilometer point), and then rides 62 kilometer back to the point where the 18 kilometer climb ended. The 1/2 Ironman participants turn around at the 54 kilometer point and then ride the 36 kilometers back to where the 18 kilometer climb ended. Run: The run begins on the top of the mountain and descends down to Eilat. The first 15 kilometers are a steep downhill, a run that can be tough on the quads but can also produce extremely fast times. Don't forget to look up while running, to catch the incredible views of the Red Sea and the Eilat harbor. For further details & prices visit www.israman.co.il

Loyalty to the visual experience and the impulse to prevent it from slipping away are the moving forces behind Aram Gershuni’s artistic work. Keeping close to the motif that serves as his means – portrait, landscape, still life or any other image – Gershuni holds on to the primal, fragile and almost-disappearing experience in order to try and restore its existence as a painting. Fashion City - Designers Market Jan 15 - 17 Good-bye Paris, Milan and London. And who needs New York when Tel Aviv has its own hip fashion scene, brought into full spectrum light at the biannual Fashion Market? For over a decade, the three-day event at the end of the winter and summer seasons draws tens of thousands of women and men – celebrities and commoners alike – looking to upgrade their wardrobe. They also come to see and be seen mingling among the different Israeli designers – some on the way up like Ido Recanati, and others well established and internationally successful such as Sigal Dekel. If you're lucky enough to be in Tel Aviv between the 15th and the 17th of January you can find the city’s most talented designers gathered together in one place with the best of their collections on display – and for sale. Twice a year, for three days each time, a giant fashion fair called City Designers’ Market is held in Tel Aviv. Whatever you do, don’t miss

this colorful carnival of cutting-edge fashion! The Fashion Market is held at the exhibition grounds in north Tel Aviv and cost 15 NIS for entry.
