St. Matthew's Church News Saturday 21st September is St. Matthew's Day and St. Matthew's parish traditionally marks it with a Harvest Thanksgiving on the nearest Sunday, with special decorations and music. You are very welcome to: Sunday 22nd September Harvest Thanksgiving in St. Matthew's church. 11.15am is our Harvest Eucharist,, when the special preacher will be Lydia Monds, from the Church of Ireland Bishops' Appeal (for world development needs), about her recent experiences among the Maasai in Kenya. The collection at that service will be for Bishops' Appeal. 7pm is our Harvest Evening Prayer,, followed by Harvest Supper.. The special preacher will be the Rev. Trevor Stevenson (from Crinken), founder of the Fields of Life (providing schools and wells in Africa). Fields of Life is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The collection collection at that service will be in aid of Fields of Life, as will the sale of the fruit and flowers of the harvest decorations, which will take place after the supper. All are welcome to both these services. Sunday 29th September is Michaelmas (the Feast of St Michael and All Angels) – from which Michaelmas Term (the first term of the school year) is named. There is a family service ('Wheels and Squeals') at 11.15am in St. Matthew's church, to which parents and children are especially invited. School children children make solemn promises about being very good at school, and, of course, presents are given to all good boys and girls. [Parents and grandparents, whether they are good or not, are only given coffee with cream and a biscuit or two, before and after the sservice.] There is ample space for buggies in our extensive buggy park inside the church – and toys and a carpeted area in the vestibule for little ones who tire even of the rector's brilliant sermon. However, we do ask parents to supervise the squeals if they hey go outside the church gate onto the pavement. All are welcome.

The children of St. Matthew’s NS have been invited to take part in a Service of The Word for Michaelmas in St. Matthew’s Church on Sunday 29th September at 11.15am. Please put a note in your child’s journal if your child will be able to attend as we will be practising hymns and selecting children for readings reading shortly.
