Let the sun fill your kitchen, the gurgling creek be heard from your bedroom, the patio embraces the shade of the old cotton wood.

It is needless to state that the environment upbringing will shape how a person’s way of thinking in a way or so. Having been brought up in the east where the nature has not been fully exploited, I was constantly being surrounded by the awning scenes of mother nature that has becomes part of my life in some way. We often acknowledge the contrast of new developments destroying the environment instead of complementing them. Being an architecture student, I see myself as a bornean girl urges to preserve and conserve our surroundings given by the mother nature. The idea of treating a building as a single unified organism, taking inspiration from nature in its aesthetics, structure and services is something I hope to explore further this term, having just read and been much inspired by a biography of Frank Lloyd Wright. To me architecture is a reinterpretation of nature’s principles as they had been filtered through the intelligent minds of the existent designers or architects who could then build forms which are more natural than nature itself. It is something that must be sculpted, it cannot be designed; it should take in all that nature gives to it; light, rain, wind, dirt, etc.
In architecture, I am always inspired to small details that could possibly form a potential poetic space. As how the phrase goes, “It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” Instance, tiny meadow flowers which doesn’t mean anything to the community but all together perfume the air and give serenity to the neighbourhood. Guided by the five senses of a person, I found myself appreciating architecture through exploring the many components of a building. Design, to me is simply powerful thing. Your space needs not only to function, but to let your user appreciate where they are living.
