The Memory Capsule Hunstanton Cliff, Norfolk 2019/20 | MArch 4th year project

“ Sometimes, the old is more radical than the new... Some architects conceive a building for the present, some imagine for a mythical past, while others design for a future time and place.

Instead, conceiving a design as a history and a novel and a monument to a ruin envisages the past, the present and future in a single architecture.�

We don’t have the record of the Hunstanton Cliff history beside knowing it retreated for estimated 30m since 1885.

Hunstanton Cliff will leave to erode by itself, memory of the cliff will be recorded through architecture; giving it a new form while remaining its past.

PAST Future is an accumulation of the past memory, nothing is new, we are only improving from the past.

Present Memory is created every second. Past and future are just a matter of a second.

Future Imagining future is a form of memory

In my project, I suggested that architecture as part of the landscape components may play a role in preserving memory in a more controllable way following the rather inconstant natural phenomena.

Memory as the currency of this trade.

In the case of Hunstanton cliff which is eroding at a rate of 0.3m to 0.4m per year for the next hundred years, the memory of the town is at the verge of disappearing into thin air. With the introduction of the memory mechanisms into the site, local communities who are the future memory holders able to involve in the memory preserving process.

Doggerland is a land with a series of gently sloping hills, marshland, heavily wooded valleys, and swampy lagoons. Mesolithic people populated Doggerland. Doggerlanders were hunter-gatherers who migrated with the seasons, fishing, hunting, and gathering food such as hazelnuts and berries.

Around 6, 000 b.c., the glacial ice and rising sea levels resulted in a tsunami that engulfing Doggerland over a thousand years. Around 5, 000 b.c., Doggerland became Doggerbank. Mesolithic people were forced onto higher ground in what is today England and the Netherlands.

Conceptual model

Coastal erosion information is collected from the data receiver centre. Buildings that sit on the track will react to the data and move backwards by the levitation system. The drilling system is to be sit on top or within the buildings to create a detachable concrete foundations.

Towards the end of the track is the interaction and process hub which visitors can have an experience of the climate change and the idea of the memory of Hunstanton Cliff. Concrete is also process in this space where the raw materials are from the cliffâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s eroded chalk.

The new memory lane [The cliff memory quietly fade off, but a new form of memory arise, continuing the story of cliff.]

The reaction of the cliff and the concrete piles will create an interesting outcome which shall be the new memory of the cliff. People is allow to read the story from the higher level while letting the nature to work at itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s pace. The interaction between the moving buildings will be further explored.

A new space/ memory theatre is create for the local community to save their collective and individual memory that might be disappeared into thin air in no time.

Masterplanning today must be designed with nature - not just in its materplanning but in all aspects and components of society including mobility, lifestyles, built systems and all the various aspects of human society that makes life meaningful, happy and salubrious.

Why is the 'city in the sky' relevant for Silver beach? The natural identity of Silver Beach is its unique terrestrial ecology, hydrology and unique aquatic coral ecology. Silver Beach is one of the most ecologically important locality on the Planet. To intensively construct a city and all over the site is simply a travesty to Nature.

It might even raise the world's public outcry if designed and constructed callously.

An ecological approach to the masterplanning and construction on the site is crucial. Whereas in the past 10 to 20 years, ecological design had been ‘preventive’ - to prevent further degradation of the planet, today with the extent of impairment to the Planet, ecological design is ‘race and rescue’ mission. We need to remind the world of this reality.

What is the best ecological solution for Silver Beach? Proposed here is a Masterplan that reconnects Nature and protects where it had been fragmented into 3 parts by the existing regional highway. All construction and activities are constructed above the non-elevated regional highway, and where here it sits on less than 5% of the land to allow Nature become Nature and repairs its ecological nexus.

Bible College Malaysia Architectural Proposal Work experience | T.R. Hamzah & Yeang

To create a pleasurable and happy college environment within the minimum budget.

It is a project to propose a new extension to the traditional college and chapel that will be able to accommodate new prgrammes: new chapel, classroom, admin offices, dining hall, kitchen, library and staff hostel. Also to design a new accommodation block.

The design is aimed to inherit a few christian metaphors which highlighting â&#x20AC;&#x153;God is Lightâ&#x20AC;? and also to bring contemporary design on sire.

The client would like to see the outcome of a master plan for the entire 125 acres, to be phased over duration of about 15 years in roughly 5 phases of development. When fully built, it is envisaged that about 25,000 students will occupy the facilities of this campus with a rough built-up area of about 7.5 million sft. of academic space for higher education. Additionally, built-up area will include student and faculty housing, space for student recreation, sports, convention center, superspecialty hospital, and other ancillary supporting services and roads.

The master plan should have flexibility for Nitte to start different academic programmes in specialties depending on the requirements from time to time. Keeping in mind futuristic ways of delivering high quality education, planning should be nimble enough to enable and adapt to such change of ideas that may occur over time.

The super-specialty hospital will be a holistic treatment and healing center of the future that should have easy connectivity with the existing hospital campus, and medical and dental schools. It is envisaged that about 20 to 25 acres of land may be reserved for this high-end facility closer to the southern tip of the property. It is felt that the users of the academic programs should have a separate identity from that of the hospital, with no conflict of ingress and egress.

Project concepts

Home for the Homeless Belfast, NI 2018 | Undergraduate final year project

Balance of privacy and interaction After observing their daily activity, I come to a conclusion that homeless people are often alone, shy, afraid to interact with others, and having low self-esteem. Thus, there are several spaces create in the building (e.g. canteen, landing of the stairs, corridor) to encourage the occupants to interact with each other. In the meantime, there are also some semi private spaces designed for the rather shy occupants.

This is an exploration of the relationship and boundaries between public, semi-public and private spaces, and study its effects on human behaviors. The proposal is to tackle the homeless issue happening in Belfast, creating a shelter and assistance to the homeless community. The building consists of 31 single bedrooms, 9 apartments, consultation rooms, social space and some other functional spaces. The relationship between public and private spaces is defining according to the characteristics and needs of the users (the homeless).

The tower scheme is proposed which one side of the building is double the height of another side after studying the height of the surrounding buildings. The building appears to be two separate massing to create a distinctive facade to the junction of Lisburn Road and University Road while retaining the internal space as a whole.

Sense of protection The main purpose of the home is to create a shelter for the homeless in Belfast regardless the race or gender. Allowing them to stay away from cold and have a place to rest and settle down.

Sustainability The building facade is designed to reuse the on-site material (bricks) mixing with the cigarette butt bricks. Energy generating footpaths are placed in the building to create a self-sustaining home.

Pasal Pasar Sketch archive

Drawing pasar (wet market in malay language) started with the simply idea to archive the presence of stalls and trades in pasar, in drawings. We always been facisnated with how stalls owner arrange and decorate their stall, with freedom creativity, their â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;this way sell bestâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; display, preparation process, ownership and belonging. Some of the trades and stall owner facing challenges on their livelihood and business, and some of our pasar friends has slowly moved out from their trades.
