5 SHELL PERFORMANCE GUIDE

SHELL MATERIAL PERFORMANCE GUIDE Our garments are fabric engineered to provide superior waterproofness, waterproof durability, breathability and seam sealing. FABRIC CONSTRUCTION Zhik 2-layer shells feature a super soft mesh lining that provides comfort and insulation. Zhik 3-layer shells are unlined and use a 3-layer fabric construction where a thin and highly breathable mesh scrim layer is bonded on the inner side of the membrane improving the waterproof durability and breathability of the fabric whilst also reducing weight and bulk.

Waterproofness & Waterproof Durability A hydrostatic water pressure test is where we measures the amount of pressure that a fabric can withstand before leaking. While it is important to have a good initial waterproof rating, it is the waterproof durability of the fabric that is crucial. In other words, waterproof durability is the ability of a fabric to maintain its waterproofness after extended use. Zhik pioneered the development of a waterproof durability testing method specifically designed to simulate wear and tear in wet conditions (when the waterproof membrane is most vulnerable). The results speak for themselves: according to our tests the Isotak Ocean fabric maintains its waterproofness for over 4x longer than the industry leading ePTFE ocean fabric.

Breathability There are a number of different industry standards for measuring the breathability, or moisture vapour permeability, of a fabric. We chose to compare the vapour resistance (RET) of a fabric because it is a far more accurate method of comparing materials with different membrane constructions. Even so, the moisture vapour permeability data can vary widely depending on the type of membrane and whether the membrane or complete laminated fabric is being tested, which makes it impossible to accurately compare different textiles. Zhik always tests the complete laminated fabric to ensure our products meet the highest performance requirements.

Seam SEALING SYSTEM QuLockâ&#x201E;˘ is a seam taping process where we have thorough quality control checking through every step of the seam taping process from tape production through to finished garment. The QuLockâ&#x201E;˘ process includes the use of our own proprietary seam tape and reinforcement of critical junctions for further durability in key areas.

SEAM SEALING SYSTEM QuLock™ is a proprietary and robust seam sealing specification designed by Zhik. Every component of the seal must pass durability testing that meets the extreme demands of ocean sailing. A QuLock™ water tight seam involves an exhaustive manufacturing and testing process where every garment is pressure tested to ensure all seams provide an extremely rugged and durably waterproof seal. The QuLock™ seam sealing system also uses a proprietary tape that has been specifically engineered to bond with Isotak Ocean fabric.

Hydrobase® drains fast and rapidly moves moisture away from the fabric surface staying dry, warm and comfortable.

EXTREME WATERPROOF DURABILITY Developed and tested in extreme ocean sailing conditions. Every material, construction process and feature in this range has been selected to provide the toughest, lightest, most durably waterproof ocean kit available. The Zhik designers have achieved remarkable improvements with Isotak® Ocean, producing a fabric that is both more comfortable and more durable. There is reduced bulk and weight, with all key features needed for extreme ocean racing included. Isotak® Ocean is a multi-layer composite membrane fabric that has extreme waterproof durability. Isotak® Ocean also introduces the new Zhik Qulock™ seam sealing system. The Qulock™ system includes a proprietary seam tape that is carefully tuned to the inner fabric lining to maximise waterproofness. This seam sealing is also applied under strict manufacturing processes, and then every Isotak® Ocean product is pressure tested, so that you can be guaranteed an extremely rugged and durable waterproof seal.

Superthermal™ Hydrobase® is our proprietary baselayer composite that combines polypropylene and polyester fibres to create a lightweight, warm and superior wicking material. This is ideal for activities that combine moments of high sweat activity with moments of rest. The thermal needs to wick moisture away from the body fast so the skin can remain dry and the moisture has no chance to freeze you. Every innovation known to the Zhik designers was utilised in Superthermal™ HydroBase® to optimise moisture wicking away from the body and also to promote quick drying on the outer fabric surface. The goal was to produce a thermal fabric that outperformed all others available. The fabric construction has been engineered to regulate body temperature by transferring moisture away from the skin during periods of high activity while also providing excellent thermal insulation in extremely cold conditions.
