Michigan Golfer Magazine Past Issues http://michigangolfer.com/#pastissues Michigan Golfer Television http://michigangolfer.tv Editor: Art McCafferty Associate Editor - Jennie McCafferty ================================================================================= THE OTSEGO CLUB, BLACK FOREST AT WILDERNESS VALLEY AND MANISTEE NATIONAL GOLF RESORT OFFERED FOR SALE ================================================================================= Six spectacular 18-hole championship golf courses, the centerpieces of three exclusive luxury resort complexes nestled high in the great state of Michigan--two in Gaylord and one in Manistee--are being offered individually for sale in a bid auction to be conducted by CBRE Auction Services on October 5th. Paul Galanis and Douglas Johnson, managing directors of Chicago-based CBRE Auction Services, are spearheading the marketing initiative for the sealed bid auction of The Ostego Club, Black Forest at Wilderness Valley, both in Gaylord, and Manistee National Golf and Resort in Manistee. The seller and owner of all three resorts is directing the sale of its non-core assets to streamline their portfolio. “Each of these properties featuring distinctively-designed, signature golf courses offer investors a rare opportunity to acquire some of Northern Michigan’s most beautiful, meticulously-maintained destination resorts at your price,” noted Mr. Galanis. “We anticipate tremendous bidder interest in this singular opportunity to acquire one, two or all three resorts, equipped with their respective lodging/convention/ski resort and clubhouse amenities.” “Osprey’s strategic plan to focus on its various core commercial property interests has sparked the sale,” shared Mr. Johnson, “and it has determined that the auction process is the most effective way to offer these exquisite properties.” The Ostego Club, Gaylord Opened in 1939, The 1,100-acre Ostego Club offers two 18-hole golf courses. ‘The Tribute,’ designed by Rick Robbins and PGA Tour Veteran Gary Koch, meanders over the rolling hills and valleys amidst Michigan’s famous Sturgeon River Valley and was recently named No. 8 Best Public Course in Michigan by Michigan Golf Magazine. Ostego’s second course, ‘The Classic,’ designed by the country’s premier golf course architect of his time, William H. Diddel, features some of the fastest and finest greens in the State. A year-round resort, in wintertime Ostego transforms into a snowy wonderland offering a ski club with 28 runs and five chair lifts, and a snowboard terrain park. It is the oldest, full facility, private ski club in the country and was host to 14 Olympic snowboarding teams for training prior to the 2010 games. The club is home to a 22 foot half-pipe and other professionally designed terrain features, making it the best terrain park in the Midwest. The property includes two full-service restaurants, the Pontresina Steakhouse and the Duck Blind Bar & Grille, in addition to three other bar venues for food & beverage service and a 400-seat conference center.

He had a full proshop and an outing was getting ready to take on this great Jerry Matthew's course http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxuMfR0vN3o. If there was a category for great clubhouses in Michigan, this would be in the Top 10. Buck's Run has a very special view. Anybody have a clubhouse that they would put into the Top 10? http://www.bucksrun.com

=================================================================== DAVE KENDALL TO ENTER JACKSON GOLF HALL OF FAME: By Terry Moore =================================================================== Dave Kendall, an accomplished golfer on and off the course, has been selected as an inductee into this year’s Jackson (Mich.) Golf Hall of Fame. The committee selected Kendall, a Jackson native and a 1973 graduate of Jackson High School, for both his playing record and his teaching excellence. “I’m deeply honored by this recognition—Jackson is one of the best golf communities in the state—and it caught me completely by surprise,” said Kendall. Founder of Kendall Academy in Ypsilanti, MI, Kendall has won the Michigan Senior Open (2007, 2009) as well as the Michigan PGA Senior Championship (2007.) This summer he teamed up with amateur Casey Baker to win the Michigan PGA State Pro-Am while later qualifying for the National Senior PGA Championship. Kendall has qualified for the PGA Professional National Championship 10 times and the Senior PGA Professional National Championship five times. Head golf professional at Cadillac Country Club for 17 years prior to opening Kendall Academy, Kendall won the Michigan PGA Pro-Pro three times and was twice named Northern Michigan Player of the Year. Kendall is also an acclaimed golf instructor, twice being named Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year (2000, 2004) and is ranked among the top ten teachers in the state by Golf Digest. He founded Kendall Academy at Miles of Golf in 1996 and it’s now one of the top instructional centers in the state, boasting ten highly ranked PGA teaching professionals and with satellite centers in Auburn Hills and Grand Rapids. In addition to his playing and teaching skills, Kendall has been a leader in the Michigan PGA, serving as its President in 2008-09, after being honored as its Professional of the Year in 1990 and 2006. Last year, Kendall received the Michigan PGA’s Horton Smith Award for his “outstanding contributions to professional education.” Kendall and his wife Karen live in Saline. They have two sons, Bob and Scott. The Jackson Golf Hall of Fame ceremonies take place at 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Cascades Manor House. Past inductees include Dave and Mike Hill, Elaine Crosby, and Steve Maddalena. "Tiger Woods went 142 tournaments without missing a cut, the PGA Tour record. This record is for the most consecutive tournaments played on the PGA Tour without missing a cut. Tournaments that did not have a cut (such as short-field events like the Tour Championship) do count in these streaks (as per PGA Tour policy), and all the streaks listed below include some of these no-cut tournaments. 142 - Tiger Woods First in streak: Buick Invitational, February 5-8, 1998

While we continue to yearn for Tiger’s Sunday red to return, we had the chance to savor 2011 PGA Champion Keegan Bradley in his own version of Oakley’s Sunday red - belt included! Bradley strutted those playoff holes in bold style Sunday at the Atlanta Athletic Country Club. He is the second Oakley golf professional to win a major championship this season - joining Rory McIlroy’s win at the U.S. Open in June. It sure was nice to see the Sunday red come back to our TV sets but there are a few fashion faux pas that I have been dying to make note of this season - faux pas that are in desperate need of attention. 1. The White Belt There has got to be an end to this white belt fad. It is truly no longer “in” to wear this color of leather. P. 8

Let’s just say that the white belt was cool in the Jesper Parnevik era of the 1990s. Sure, there are a few guys that can still pull it off with a decent outfit, but it just dumbs down any sleek look. For example: Jason Dufner, who had on the greatest pink Peter Millar polo and the perfect grey trousers to accompany it. Then there was the unfortunate white belt looped into the equation… the perfect outfit was no longer perfect anymore. Adam Scott somehow (well, I’m pretty sure I know how) seemed to make the white belt work last weekend but he still could have looked a lot smarter in a black one. 2. The Top Button Please, can I ask all men on the PGA Tour - ahem, Phil Mickelson - to undo the top button on their polos. Mickelson has the greatest look going these days and that top button just completely upsets everything he is doing to look fairway fashionable. 3. Visors There really isn’t much to say about this subject. Visors speak for themselves and should absolutely not be worn by PGA Tour players under the age of 50. Sorry, but the Champions Tour guys are the only ones that can pull these babies off. Those are just a few pointers to help these boys match those beautiful golf swings with their wardrobes. Hope this helps! http://www.golfweek.com/news/2011/aug/15/fashion-blog-bradley-continues-tradition-sunday-re/ ========================================================== JEPPESEN WINS GAM CHAMPIONSHIP" By Susan Smiley of the GAM ========================================================== Marty Jeppesen of Ypsilanti has played in GAM tournaments since he was a junior golfer. He finally got his reward today when he captured the 90th GAM Championship at Barton Hills Country Club. Jeppesen’s play was steady as he logged scores of 72-68-72 for a 212 total. “It couldn’t be any better winning a major amateur tournament with your own association in your own state,” said Jeppesen. “I’m turning pro this fall so it is nice to go out with a win in the last event as an amateur.” Jeppesen, 23, played for Eastern Michigan University and has a solid streak going at Barton Hills. He also won a Power Bilt event and a Michigan PGA one-day event there. “We played there a lot when I was at EMU and I won two other tournaments there so I am 3-0 at Barton,” said Jeppesen. Jeppesen said he would not have logged such a good final round had it not been for his short game. His drives were not what they had been in the first two rounds, but he made some long putts and was precise with his chips which helped him maintain the lead. “I struggled with my ball striking, but my chipping and putting was pretty good,” said Jeppesen. “I got up and down and I shot even par so it ended up working out.”

Jeppesen is a fan of Donald Ross courses with their large undulating greens and traditional fairways. He feels right at home whenever he plays a Ross course because their style and design fit his golf game very well. “Donald Ross makes really nice, old-style, tree-lined courses with the tough greens and I really enjoy playing them,” said Jeppesen. “And I have to say that (GAM Tournament Director) Ken (Hartmann) really made some interesting pin placements today. It was very challenging and fun to play.” Taken from a Susan Smiley GAM release. ===================================================== MICHIGAN GOLFERS AT THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP: RECAP ===================================================== Tom Gillis 148 Tom Gillis is currently 100th on the PGA money list in 2011 with 794K. Christmas - What other time of the year do you sit in front of a dead tree and eat candy out of your socks? Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway ? **** The Friars open a shop These friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to"persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars. ============================================================ MICHIGAN GOLFER TELEVISION CHANNEL -- 2011 SHOWS http://michigangolfer.tv/archives.html ============================================================ **************************** NOW PLAYING *************************** Paul W.
