"It's a great opportunity for us to extend our instruction to even more golfers and the timing is perfect," Dave Kendall said. "Winter is a good time to work on and refine the swing and the Great Lakes dome is huge, heated and easily accessible. Owner Mike Ashley runs a first-class operation and is restoring the dome to a destination spot for both practice and instruction." Kendall is a two-time Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year, twice was voted the Section's Professional of the Year, and is a champion player in his own right. He built a teaching staff at the Kendall Academy at Miles of Golf in Ypsilanti and at The Meadows GC in Grand Rapids that has produced nationallyranked players as well as many outstanding junior and high school golfers. "Our goal is to make everyone a better player and help them to play well and enjoy the game more," Kendall said. ======================================================================= JAMIE LOVEMARK -NATIONWIDE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - WON WESTERN AM AT 17 ======================================================================= We had the opportunity to interview Lovemark a year after his win at the Western Amateur in 2007. Here he talks about being the youngest Western Amateur winner (17) and his place in history. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNIJpX-CCXI ====================== ROUNDS UP IN OCTOBER ====================== Golf rounds played rose in October 19.4%, following declines of 3.6% in September, 4.9% in August, and 5.1% in July, according to the National Golf Rounds Played Report. Year-to-date rounds are also now down 1.8% through October. The reporting is based on data from operators at 3,865 golf facilities. Private courses showed a 17.8% increase in October, bringing the YTD decline to 2.7%. Play at public access courses rose 19.9%; YTD was down 1.6%. Rounds played for the entire year of 2009 were down 1.8% versus the 12 months in 2008. For 2008, they were also down 1.8%. For 2007, rounds played were down 0.5%; in 2006, they had been up 0.8%. Taken from an NSGA release: Dan Kasen dkasen@nsga.org =================================== ACUSHNET COMPANY BEING SPUN OFF =================================== Acushnet Company today announced that the Board of Directors of its parent company, Fortune Brands, has approved in principle a separation of Fortune Brand’s three businesses in order to maximize long-term value for shareholders. This plan would result in: the continuation of Fortune Brands as an independent, publicly-traded spirits company; the tax-free spin-off to shareholders of the home and security business into an independent, publicly-traded company; and the sale or tax-free spin-off of the Acushnet Company. The Acushnet Company is the longest running and strongest golf industry success story, and has been very successful as part of the Fortune Brands family. Acushnet is currently the largest and most profitable golf equipment company in the world. With annual sales of $1.2 billion, Acushnet Company includes Titleist, the #1 ball in golf, and FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf. Titleist is also a leader in high-performance golf clubs, and FootJoy is growing strongly in the performance outerwear category, where it has become the industry leader. New product innovations, including successive generations of the Pro V1 golf ball, and

investments in high-growth international markets, have enabled Acushnet to consistently outperform the market on growth and returns. “The strength of the Acushnet Company as the undisputed global leader in the golf category, and confidence in our growth prospects, were factors contributing to the Board’s decision,” commented Acushnet CEO, Wally Uihlein. “Whether the Acushnet Company is sold to a new owner or becomes an independent publicly-traded company, our focus will be to keep on doing what’s made us the leader in our industry – the delivery of best-in-class products and service to our customers and golf consumers. We look forward to building on our track record of delivering performance and quality superior golf products to serious golfers worldwide.” The Acushnet Company has a history of successful growth and evolution, even in times of change. Acushnet was founded in 1910 and in 1935 the first Titleist golf ball was brought to market. Fortune Brands acquired the Acushnet Company in 1976, and Acushnet acquired FootJoy in 1985. Acushnet Company’s net sales in 1975 were $51 million and in 2009 had grown to more than twenty-fold that number. Over the past 75 years, the Titleist golf ball has become golf’s standard of excellence, while FootJoy has developed number one positions in the shoe, glove, sock and now outerwear categories. “Throughout the history of both brands – and the products and people that are the essence of the brands – there have been any number of challenges and new opportunities, and there have always been shareholders that the business has been accountable to. We have a strong history of rising to those challenges and taking advantage of those opportunities, while fulfilling our commitment to our shareholders,” continued Uihlein. “With our industry leadership, our strong and unique culture, and our talented team, we look forward to a successful transition to new ownership and building the bridge to the next chapter in Acushnet Company’s accomplished history.” Taken and edited from a Joe Gomes, Director of Communications Acushnet Company release http://www.pgamagazine.com/page/369-21466.htm?article_id=9855 ================================================================= FOR MICHAEL WILBON, A FOND FAREWELL TO THE POST: By Michael Wilbon ================================================================= This is the first column I ever dreaded writing, the only time I can recall experiencing that thing known as writer's block. It's my last column for The Washington Post, 20-some years after my first one and 311/2 years after I walked in the door as a summer intern. It's not Shirley Povich's 75 years but I hung around long enough to think it might last forever. Sadly and of my own doing, I've come to that part in the program where it's time to say goodbye, where I need to tell readers, editors, colleagues, even some of the people I've covered over the years just how enormously grateful I am for their helping me have the greatest adventure imaginable. I remember thinking in the summer of 1980, after graduating from college and coming back to Washington for a second summer, that it would be a successful career if I got to have a byline from each of the major sporting events once in my life. It never dawned on me I'd wind up covering nine

Olympic Games for The Post, or more than 20 Super Bowls, more than 20 Final Fours, more than 20 NBA Finals, or more importantly evolve to the point where the editors of this newspaper would trust me to lead the daily discussion about the news of the day and the changing cultural landscape as it all related to sports. MORE: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn/content/article/2010/12/06/AR2010120606607.html?nav=hcmodule ======================================================= HURON HILLS GOLF COURSE RFP PRESENTATION & INTERVIEW ======================================================= I caught the presentation of Chris Miles, Dave Kendall and other Miles of Golf representatives on our Ann Arbor Cable Channel and found it most interesting. In essence, Miles of Golf wants to move to Huron Hills GC. Huron Hills and Leslie Park are both municipal golf courses in Ann Arbor and have been operating in the red for a number of years. The City of Ann Arbor is trying a number of ideas to make them more profitable, including obtaining a beverage license. At one time these courses were profitably, but the enormous golf course growth the past 25 years in the Ann Arbor area, has led to diminished play. Essentially, the success of Miles of Golf has caused it the need to expand. Their highly successful golf store in conjunction with the Dave Kendall golf school has made for some very crowded days, and probably a loss of business due to that. I know a couple of times this year, Jennie and i have had to park our car across the street and then cross a very busy Carpenter Road to get to the site. The parking lot was full, the practice tees were backed up and the store was over flowing. While the Ann Arbor City Council is still in the throes of gathering information, they certainly had something to think about after the presentation of Miles of Golf. We will keep on this story, as it will not only impact Ann Arbor golf, but could also provide a blueprint for other muni-courses that are financially stressed. http://milesofgolf.com http://a2gov.org ================================= WILL MICHIGAN GOLFER TV GO TO 3D? ================================= Now that we have a new helmet cam to compliment our arsenal of five HD and three DV cameras, the next obvious step for Michigan Golfer Television is to explore 3D. Cameras are now coming to the market place that would allow us to get into the game later next year. While we ponder this move, we need to get more evidence on costs and how such a move would add to the value of our product. Currently, GLSP provides video content to six online channels, four devoted to Michigan, one to the U.S. and the final to Canada. Such a move is also being contemplated by other consumers as they look at holiday spending. With

that thought in mind, we thought we would share some of the thinking of the experts. "In the broadcast world, they are still figuring how best to do 3DTV. The problem ESPN and other networks are grappling with is depth of field'. Here's how it works: The broadcasters put two 2D HD cameras side-by-side on a single support rig, to simulate a left eye/right eye view. The more they want the 3D effect to pop out at the viewer, the further apart they place the cameras from each other; thus deepening the depth of field the viewer perceives. (Theatrical 3D movies tend to exaggerate the depth of field to make the 3D effects jump out at you.) Here's the problem: While pushing depth of field can make distant shots look convincingly 3D - in real life, they look more 2D to we mere mortals - it can also make the 3D video look cartoonish and hard to watch. This is why broadcasters are trying to find a balance between the 3D 'wow factor' and video that just looks like you are actually there. It is important to note that so far they have not found this balance; the technology is still too new. It is against this background that consumer 3DTV has to be understood. This is a Brave New World of Video that has yet to have the basic kinks worked out. So if you are moved to buy a consumer 3DTV camcorder, be aware that you are not just an Early Adopter; you are a Pioneer!" http://www.videomaker.com/article/14910/?utm_source=enews&utm_medium=email&utm_content=fe ature_enews_2010_12_1&utm_campaign=traffic ================= MINZEY'S MUSINGS ================= 0bama has recently appointed a Golf Czar and major rule changes in the game of golf will become effective January 1, 2011 . This is only a preview as the complete rule book is being rewritten as we speak. The complete 4,954 page rule book will be mailed out on the last Friday before the next major holiday or immediately before all members of Congress leave for their next vacation. Here are a few of the changes: Golfers with handicaps: - below 10 will have their green fees increased by 35%. - between 11 and 18 will see no increase in green fees. - above 18 will get a $25 check each time they play. The dollar amount placed in bets will be as follows: -for handicaps below 10, an additional $10. -between 11 and 18, no additional amount. -above 18, you will receive the total amount in the pot even if you do not play. The term "gimme" will be changed to "entitlement" and will be used as follows: -handicaps below 10, no entitlements.

-handicaps from 11 to 17, entitlements for putter length putts. -handicaps above 18, if your ball is on green, no need to putt, just pick it up. These entitlements are intended to bring about fairness and, most importantly, equality in scoring. In addition, a Player will be limited to a maximum of one birdie or six pars in any given 18-hole round. Any excess must be given to those fellow players who have not yet scored a birdie or par. Only after all players have received a birdie or par from the player actually making the birdie or par,can that player begin to count his pars and birdies again. The current USGA handicap system will be used for the above purposes, but the term 'net score' will be available only for scoring those players with handicaps of 18 and above. This is intended to 'redistribute' the success of winning by making sure that in every competition, the above 18 handicap players will post only 'net score' against every other player's gross score. These new Rules are intended to CHANGE the game of golf. Golf must be about Fairness. It should have nothing to do with Ability or Effort . *** Hallelujah Chorus Macy's http://www.creativeminorityreport.com/2010/11/awesome-pop-up-hallelujah-chorus-at.html Seaway Mall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXh7JR9oKVE *** Farm Humor Cletus is passing by Billy Bob's hay barn one day when, through a gap in the door, he sees Billy Bob doing a slow and sensual striptease in front of an old green John Deere. Buttocks clenched, Billy Bob performs a slow pirouette and gently slides off first the right strap of his overalls, followed by the left. He then hunches his shoulders forward and in a classic striptease move, he lets his overalls fall down to his hips revealing a torn and frayed plaid shirt. Grabbing both sides of his shirt he rips it apart to reveal his stained tee shirt underneath. With a final flourish he tears the tee shirt from his body and hurls his baseball cap onto a pile of hay. Having seen enough Cletus rushes in and says, "What the heck are you doing, Billy Bob?" "Jeez, Cletus, ya scared the snot out of me!" exclaims Billy Bob. Then, obviously embarrassed, he says, "Me and the old lady been having trouble lately in the bedroom department, and the therapist suggested I do something sexy to a tractor."
