Wondering what the Expo is really like?
Here are some tips from students and recruiters who have been there: From the Students “Be prepared to ask specific questions of different recruiters based on the research you’ve done on their company.” “Go in with a game plan because the long lines can be disorienting.” “Remember people’s names from the companies you are interested in. It will make it easier to follow up with them in the future.” “I would have been less stressed out if I was more organized.” “Come prepared and knowing what position you are interested in. Most importantly, be able to explain why you’re interested in it.” “Just smile and be yourself!”
From the Recruiters “Positive energy and a high level of engagement are important.” “The more you research, the more you will know and the more productive your job search will be.” “It’s not always about who you know. In fact, I’m more impressed by someone who can communicate well and who can apply what they’ve done in college to a real career, than someone who just had their dad send me a resume.” “…as for follow-up, I’m always impressed by people who take the initiative to ask for my card, send me a thank you email or even just send a hand written note.” “In a career fair setting, you have to be a self-starter. This isn’t the setting to take a passive approach, no job is going to just fall into your lap.”

Who’s coming to Expo?
T
his is the most common question about Expo and the answer is pretty straight forward: the list of organizations is available on the Fall Career Expo website. The trick, though, is what you do with the list. Here are some tips:
Tip 1 120+ organizations makes for a long list! To make it more manageable start by searching the list by “Day” and then by “Type of Position (full-time or internship).
Tip 3 Connect the job description to your own story: your experiences, interests, skills (the things you’re good at). This will give you specific examples to use when speaking with Expo recruiters. For example: The American Junior Golf Association is looking for interns who “must be willing to work in a team atmosphere and learn how to effectively solve problems and difficult situations”. How would you demonstrate these skills?
Tip 2 Don’t miss out on great opportunities! Look at the organization description and the job description. The organization description tells you what they do; the job description tells you what they’re looking for: the connection is not always obvious. For example: W.W. Grainger “ is the leading broad line supplier of facilities maintenance products in North America with operations in U.S., Mexico, Canada, Asia, Europe, and Latin America”. At first glance you might think they’re recruiting technical majors... they are actually recruiting all majors for supply chain and sales positions.

organizations are recruiting for all majors
-When have you worked in a team atmosphere? How do you contribute to your teams? -When have you encountered a difficult situation and what steps did you take to resolve it?
