The conference aims to highlight activities in India across the entire U-M campus, featuring faculty from every school and a variety of focus areas and disciplines. The conference, which is organized by students, gives the Michigan Ross community access to important senior business executives, thought leaders, and policymakers driving India’s growth, such as Arindam Bhattacharya, Senior Partner and Director at BCG India; Sadhguru, spiritual leader, yogi, and author, Isha Foundation; Shiv Shivakumar, President of Aditya Birla Group and former CEO of PepsiCo and Nokia, India; Patrick Doyle, former CEO of Domino’s Pizza; Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Vasundhara Raje, former

Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Fritz Henderson, former CEO of General Motors. India Initiatives Faculty Research Michigan Ross faculty members are pioneering research in India that is shaping the advancement of business and the economy as a whole. Three faculty members making such contributions are: • Achyuta Adhvaryu, Assistant Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy, focuses on the economic costs of air pollution in India and identifying strategies to mitigate the negative economic impact caused by poor air quality. • Paul Clyde, President, William Davidson Institute and Tom Lantos Professor of Business Administration, is an expert on healthcare delivery in emerging markets and has advised or run more than 50 healthcare projects in 12 emerging markets, with a special focus on India. • Venkatram Ramaswamy, Hallman Fellow of Electronic Business and Professor of Marketing, focuses on the concept of co-creation, a widespread initiative to create value through collaboration with customers, suppliers, employees, and all players within a product’s supply chain. Research Award To further promote research in emerging economies, together with the C.K. Prahalad Initiative, the Research Award was launched in 2019. This award provides monetary support to UM faculty and PhD students for research on market-based business solutions to embolden people at the base of the global economic pyramid. Three faculty members and two PhD students were granted the Research Award to date. Academic Programs in India Michigan Ross offers a broad portfolio of programs in India, such as the global immersion course, fellowships for self-designed projects, semester exchange through our partnership with the Indian School of Business, and action-based learning projects with Indian companies. India MAP Michigan Ross’ signature action-based learning program, MAP, immerses students in real-world projects, where they apply their knowledge to solve a real issue facing an organization. Since 2011, Michigan Ross has sent 376 MBA students to India to work on 92 different MAP projects through the CK Prahalad Initiative, William Davidson Institute, and corporate partners. These projects have ranged from developing a strategy for digital transformation for ICICI Bank, formulating a three-year strategic plan for Aravind Eye Hospital, to developing metrics for measuring women empowerment and the non-financial factors driving it for SST.

Prahalad, provides all Ross students the opportunity to design and complete their own independent project focused on social value creation at the base of the economic pyramid. The projects are intended to address practical business issues and foster professional development and industry understanding. In line with C.K. Prahalad’s heritage, a great number of these projects take place in India. Projects have ranged from consulting with small family-owned independent businesses in Mumbai to maximize their profitability and impact the local community, to analyzing the feasibility of integrating rural Indian villages into the larger energy grid. To date, nine fellows have successfully completed their projects in India.
