This past Sunday, Sept. 11, the Pittsburgh Steelers had an unlikely and unex pected victory over the Cin cinnati Bengals in overtime by the score of 23-20. This Steelers team had received a death warrant from many pundits, especially the imaginary know-it-all local yokel crew. However, the Ohio media did exhibit someAndrewcredibility.Gillis wrote the following preview for cleve land.com before the game:

“With quarterback Joe Bur row in his third season as a pro, the Steelers will have their hands full in slowing down one of the league’s most talented offenses. The Steelers are going to keep this close. Week 1 weird ness is certainly always expected, but the Steelers have a stout defense that’s going to do their best to get after Burrow and make his life difficult. Cincinnati hasn’t seen what a true No. 1 offense looks like with Trubisky under center, and that’ll take some time to figure out: In the end, Cin cinnati’s offense will make one more play than Pitts burgh’s and that’s going to be the difference. The point spread: The Bengals are fa vored by 7.”

I knew the Steelers would beat the Bengals! And Pitt let it slip away...

:01—This just in - Pitt had Tennessee beat and the late Johnny Majors knows it. But mistakes cost them the game as they let it slip through their fin gers, plucking defeat from the jaws of victory. Again. But it was a non-confer ence game so For-GetAbout-It.

It is even alleged that the Steelers’ defense faded. The time of possession for Pitts burgh was 26 minutes. The TOP for Cincinnati was 44 minutes. The Bengals had 32 first downs; the Steelers had only moved the chains 13 times even after the de fense handed them 5 turn overs on a Black and Gold platter. Shouldn’t the next

man be able to step up? The short answer is, hell yeah, ya big dummy. But where was the next man up on offense? The Bengals ran 94 plays, the Steelers ran 61 plays. Unless you have a defense, whose only weakness is kryptonite, any average or above average defense under those abnor mal game conditions would have faded long before the end of the 5th quarter (four quarters plus overtime).

:07—One more thing while I’m here. Granted the O-Line is not their strong suit. So if that’s true, why does your offensive coor dinator keep trying to run the ball between the tack les? For goodness sake, man, run the ball outside to give Najee Harris an op portunity to use his talent, speed, agility and power. Coach “T.” In 2003, Mike Tomlin won Super Bowl XXXVII as the defensive backs coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in a game where his defensive backs recorded five intercep tions, three of which were returned for touchdowns. Let’s be real. The thought of the Bucs secondary being coached by a youthful Tom lin in a Super Bowl against the wise and experienced Raiders QB Rich Gannon was quietly considered and prophesized by a few folks to be a probable mismatch. That season, Gannon won the NFL Most Valuable Player award after a re cord-setting 2002 season.

Oh, by the way, Sporting News ranks Rich Gannon’s performance in Super Bowl 37 as the third worst in Super Bowl history.Withthe stellar and stout performance of the Steel ers defense, the Pittsburgh YBS Network (Yinzers BullS—T Network) contin ues to spew comments like:

One would expect such flawed insight based upon the Bengals offense vs. a Steelers offense and de fense that had more than a few questions entering the 2022 season. You mentioned that you have a respect able six-figure retirement portfolio. That tells me that you’ve been investing for a long time. You’ve already experienced several market downturns including 2008 when the stock market plummeted 48 percent as a result of a fiasco associat ed with mortgage loans granted to people with bad credit. Yet here you stand today with a respectable six-figure retirement portfolio because you stayed the course.

With love and sex on the brain, is anyone getting any work done? The gener al stance is that canoodling is bad for business and af fects productivity. Studies have found that feelings of passion and love, espe cially in the early stages of a relationship, can neg atively impact productiv ity because our minds are elsewhere than the task at hand.Aman sits at his desk while a female colleague touches his shoulders.

Another benefit of a 40-year mortgage is that you can free up some cash. This is cash that you can use to pay off other debts, save for retirement, or invest in other areas. Because you won’t owe as much money every month, you will have more money to pay with, which can ease your financial bur dens.

I understand the mindset behind a per son contemplating wanting to stop invest ing in a bear market (falling stock prices) coupled with an inflationary economy (rising prices). On one side, inflation cre ates an environment where you have less discretionary income or money left after you pay bills and purchase necessities because of the increase in prices. When the money is tight, you look for ways to create more wiggle room in your budget. Inflation also poses an imminent threat of po tential job layoffs. The idea of being laid off from your job makes a person want to cut back and save money.

On the other hand, you need to think about the downsides of a 40-year mortgage as well. If you increase your payments

One of the top benefits of restructuring your loan to a 40-year term is that you shrink your monthly payments. By spreading out the loan over 40 years instead of 30 or 15, you don’t need to pay as much mon ey every month. If you are struggling to keep up with your payments, you can make them smaller without falling behind by going with a 40-year mortgage.

If you take a look at your mortgage options, you might find an op tion for a 40-year mort gage. Now, most lend ers do not offer this as an option, but if you find yourself struggling to keep up with your mortgage payments, the lender may offer to re structure your loan into a 40-year term. Is this a smart move, and what do you need to know about this choice?

In the end, a 40-year mortgage is another option that could be a smart move, it is defi nitely something to consider. In Arkansas, floods in 2021 wiped out bridges and roads, took out power lines, and buried homes and cities in mud and debris. Again, the federal government stepped in to help fund needed repairs. Standing in front of Independence Hall, Presi dent Joe Biden gave a primetime address to the nation where he warned of an existential threat to democracy from Trump and his allies.

This was a disaster waiting to happen. Why wasn’t the system rebuilt years ago? In deep red Mis sissippi, every statewide elected official is a conservative Republi can, and while Jackson is the state capital, it is also a poor, majori ty-Black city that Republican office holders find easy to short-change. Republican state lawmakers blocked the city’s efforts to raise money for its infrastructure with a sales tax hike, while passing tax cuts—skewed to the wealthy—at the state level.

We should remember that Osama bin Lad en, the leader of al-Qaeda, was emboldened to launch the attack in part because he naively be lieved the United States was a “paper tiger,” ac cording to Abu Walid al-Masri, an Egyptian who was a bin Laden associate in Afghanistan in the 1980s and 90s. The terrorist leader thought the U.S. was weak because of the U.S. departure from Lebanon after a 1983 bombing killed 241 American servicemen in Beirut, the withdraw al of American forces from Somalia in 1993 following the deaths of 18 U.S. servicemen in Mogadishu and the American pullout from Viet nam in the 1970s.

In Kentucky, fierce floods—caused again by unprecedented rains that result from catastrophic climate change—took the lives of 37 people (and counting) and devastated entire communities. Much of south east Kentucky remains under “boil water” orders because of over whelmed water systems.

On the anniversary of Sept. 11, the greatest threat is from within

Today, the nation is deeply divided and there have been increasing acts of domestic vio lence, an insurrection to stop the certification of a presidential election and a veiled threat by a U.S. senator of “riots in the streets” if former President Donald Trump is indicted for mishan dling classified documents.

This is a courageous act, given that more than 74 million people voted for Trump in 2020. Biden campaigned on unifying the nation. He tried for months to not even mention Trump’s name.Critics say Biden is disparaging Americans and is dividing the country.

The tragic irony is that the millions of dollars donated to help “end the war on Black people” prompted the war within BLM.

In our system of government, there are many people with roles to play in de fending our democracy. Congress can use its oversight power to reveal the corrup tion within the White House. The Justice Department can prosecute criminals like those who attacked the Capitol Police— and those who broke other laws as they tried desperately to keep the defeated Trump in power. Judges can hold public officials accountable for violating the Constitution.Andwethe voters can defend democ racy by electing local, state, and national officials who are committed to the demo cratic process—and rejecting those who seek power for the purpose of interfering with our elections and our ability to hold powerful people accountable.

It was no surprise during the 2020 George Floyd riots that corporations do nated millions of dollars to BLM. Since George Floyd was an unarmed Black man killed by a White police officer, the corporate money was supposed to help BLM accomplish their main objective, to “end the war on Black people.”

Judge Mathew ruled that a county commissioner who participated in the attack on the U.S. Capitol can no longer hold public office. The ruling was based on a section of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which was passed after the Civil War. It forbids anyone from holding public office if they had taken an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and then “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the country.Thejudge found that Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin helped lead the mob that used violence to try to prevent Congress from affirming Joe Biden’s win in the presidential election. Griffin later bragged about his role and suggested that there might be another insurrection coming.

“I know, as a human being, that he did that—one, because I was Black, and because of the emphasis that night,” Shaw said. “Just a small thing.” Hisstatus as the only Black reporter in the room took a colder turn when President Richard Nixon unexpected ly announced his nomination of Clem ent Haynsworth, who had previously ruled to uphold racial segregation, to the Supreme Court.

The principle that no person is above the law—that powerful people have to obey the laws like everyone else—is essential to a democratic society. If this principle is not enforced, corrupt leaders will undermine the rule of law and democracy itself.

Nevertheless, opinion writers made the bold claim that BLM was the new Civil Rights Movement. But which Civil Rights Movement? The Civil Rights Movement is divided between two eras, the MLK-Era and the Post-MLK Era.

As a result, President Biden rightfully exposed MAGA Republicans as a true threat. But his speech was not meant to correct Republicans who embrace the redefining of history and patriotism. That would be a lost cause for most people. It was meant to remind us that individuals like Dr. Sim one Gold and Rep. Louise Gohmert exist while be ing dangerous. It was directed to all of those who not only understand how we got to this point, but will look past our differences in seeing the urgen cy of using the vote as a weapon to contain the real threat. As individuals, we have to ask our selves what is more important, current democra cy or future fascism.

Members and staff of the committee have spent countless hours digging through emails and other public records and interviewing former Trump admin istration officials and lawyers, members of Congress, and far-right activists who promoted Trump’s lies about election fraud. They are still at it. Among the people they hope to interview this fall are former Vice President Mike Pence, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich,

The MLK-Era is the time period between the 1954 Supreme Court school desegregation decision and the pas sage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The MLK-era or the traditional Civil Rights Movement also consisted of multiple organizations working simultaneously to achieve similar objectives.

“He had the microphone first, the in stinct to broadcast, to be there,” fellow CNN correspondent Peter Arnett said. “He didn’t hesitate. He scooped the world.” Likehis idols Murrow and Cronkite, Shaw brought some of the most con sequential moments in history into America’s living rooms—the attempt ed assassination of President Ronald Regan in 1981, the 1989 demonstra tions in China’s Tiananmen Square, the 1995 terrorist bombing in Oklaho ma City. But when he retired in 2001, he expressed regret.

The 2022 midterm election is a pivotal moment which is why former President Barack Obama is not only appearing publicly with congressio nal and gubernatorial candidates, but will also campaign in secretary of state races in key bat tleground states. When President Biden gave his “battle for the soul of the nation” address in prime-time, it was long overdue. During his critical speech, not only did the president make clear that equality and democracy are under as sault, he clearly identified Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans as the ones representing an extremism that threatens the very foundations of ourTherepublic.speech was an all-hands-on-deck call for re-engagement and the need to vote. “I am an American president—not the president of red America or blue America, but of all America.” Biden said. He continued, “And I believe it is my duty—my duty to level with you, to tell the truth no matter how difficult, no matter how painful. And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Re publicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not rec ognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election. And they’re working right now, as I speak, in state after state to give power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election deniers to un dermine democracy itself. They look at the mob that stormed the United States Capitol on Jan uary 6th—brutally attacking law enforcement— not as insurrectionist who placed a dagger to the throats of our democracy, but they look at them asBidenpatriots.”called for Democrats, independents and mainstream Republicans to unite behind the sin gle purpose of defending our democracy regard less of ideology. Getting persuadable Republicans to vote for Democrats in congressional, guberna torial and secretary of state races for the sake of saving democracy will not be easy in every race. The same is true with Black voters. And while Black women are the most loyal and dependable block of Democratic voters, will Black men join this critical coalition in sufficient numbers? Geor gia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said, “If Black men vote for me, I will win Georgia.”Themost recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll shows that Abrams has significant ground to make up among Black voters, particularly Black men. Incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, currently has a 5-point lead over Abrams. Key metrics are showing Abrams with 90 percent of the Black female vote but just 80 percent of the Black male vote, with another 10 percent unde cided. While Republicans typically receive about 10 percent of the Black vote, experts say Demo cratic candidates cannot afford to slip far below 90 percent of the Black vote overall and still expect to win. With Black men voting for Donald Trump in double digits in 2020, it shows that Black peo ple are not monolithic. During past elections, a Republican may have specific reasons why they could not vote for a Democrat. The same is true about a male voter having reasons for not sup porting a female candidate or a white voter not supporting a Black candidate. Regardless of their reasons, these are not normal times.

That’s why the remarkable career of television journalist Bernard Shaw, who passed away this week at the age of 82, was so significant. When the brand-new 24-hour cable news network CNN launched in June of 1980, America saw a Black man in the prime-time anchor chair.  He was only the second Black anchor of a network evening news program; Max Robinson had been named co-anchor of ABC News’s World News Tonight in 1978 just two years earlier.

The committee’s efforts to get a full pic ture of the illegal scheming to overturn the election is essential. So is punish ing wrongdoers and preventing future attempts to subvert our elections.

The committee’s public hearings this summer gave the American people a powerful dose of truth-telling about the lies and deceptions of President Trump, members of his legal team, and his polit ical allies. The committee’s investigation is continuing, and we can look forward to more public hearings this fall.

Shaw downplayed the role of race in his career but said, “There were times when my color did play a role in perceptions, or people’s reactions to me.”  He recalled a moment as a pool reporter covering a reception for Pres ident Lyndon Johnson “sumptuous ballroom” at the Plaza Hotel in New York. Among the guests were National Urban League President Whitney M. Young. “It was clear that this night had a very strong civil rights theme.” Just before making his entrance, President Johnson reached out to Shaw and touched him on the head and said, “It’s good to see you.”

Haynsworth? Supreme Court jus tice?’” And though Shaw was standing just a few feet away, “ The President never once looked at me. I know what was in the President’s mind—I could not prove it—but I knew it, instinc tively.” Inaddition to breaking racial bar riers, Shaw played a key role in the transformation of CNN into a media powerhouse during the 1991 Gulf War. His riveting reporting from under a desk at the Al-Rashid Hotel in Bagh dad, as cruise missiles flew past his window, defined both the coverage of the war, and Shaw’s personal courage and skill as a journalist.

Then BLM released six core demands. Their first demand was “end the war on Black people.” The rest was a condensed version of the 1966 Ten Point Program written by the founders of the Black Panther Party. In other words, it was high-minded idealism that no one could implement with the best of inten tions. That made BLM an organization that “imagined a better society” without any serious plans to make it one.

The Associated Press reported that of the $90 million BLM received in donations amid racial justice protests in 2020, $32 million was invested into stocks. A BLM organizer told the AP the investment is expected to become an endowment to ensure that BLM’s “work” continues in the future. The AP reported BLM spent $6 million on a Los-Angeles area compound, which includes a home with six bedrooms and bathrooms, a swimming pool, a sound stage and office space, which is intended as a campus for a Black artists fellowship.

Therefore, it is not unusual for a member of Con gress to request a flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol and have it presented to constituents in honor of special occasions, patriotic service or me morials. However, it is hard to fathom how a person who was arrested for storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan uary 6 and then sentenced to 60 days in prison be worthy of receiving a commemorative flag flown from the very building they previously attacked.

Therefore, the opinion writers must have meant BLM was “the new” PostMLK Civil Rights Movement. Post-MLK was the era of Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton. Jackson and Sharpton targeted specific corporations, accused them of discriminatory deeds, and threatened nation-wide boycotts unless the corporations donated to Jackson or Sharpton’s non-profit organizations that supposedly helped minorities.

In 1961, when Walter Cronkite, also of CBS, arrived to report a story on Oahu where Shaw was stationed as a

J. Pharoah Doss

Judge Francis Mathew upheld a little-known provision of the U.S. Con stitution and removed a public official for participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. I hope other judges have the courage to follow his lead.

Accountability: An insurrectionist removed

Marine, Shaw seized his chance.  “I called the hotel 34 times and left 34 messages,” Shaw said. He waited two hours for Cronkite in the hotel’s lobby. “Hewas the most persistent guy I’ve ever met in my life,” Cronkite said. “I was going to give him five begrudging minutes and ended up talking to him for a half hour. He was just deter mined to be a journalist.”

Black Lives Matter captured national attention when civil unrest sparked in Ferguson, MO, after an unarmed Black teenager was fatally shot by a White police officer in 2014. A host of opinion writers immediately supported the slo gan “Black Lives Matter”, but admitted they didn’t know what the umbrella organization was about.

other judges considering legal efforts to hold state legislators and others accountable for trying to undermine democracy.Anotherimportant effort to hold pow erful people accountable for the insur rection is being conducted by the House Select Committee that is investigating the insurrection and the schemes that led up to it.

While Shaw’s award-winning career may have inspired an entire gen eration of young Black journalists, Shaw himself had no role models of color. But he knew what he wanted to be from the time he was a teenager growing up in Chicago.  CBS News correspondent Edward R. Murrow “was my idol,” Shaw said.  “He was the kind of journalist, the kind of interviewer, the kind of anchorman I wanted to be.”

The day before the January 6 attack, Gold spoke at a “Stop the Steal” rally where she further pro moted vaccine misinformation. The next day, she was part of a group of rioters who breached the U.S. Capitol where she later spoke through a megaphone to fellow rioters gathered in Statu ary Hall. Yet, upon her release from federal pris on Republican Rep. Louise Gohmert presented Gold with an honorary American flag recently flown above the U.S. Capitol. Gohmert claimed that Gold was “a political prisoner”, a term used by many supporters of former President Donald Trump to inaccurately describe the prosecution and incarceration of January 6 defendants. Dr. Simone Gold is an insurrectionist, and she is also a MAGA Republican. Gohmert is a MAGA Repub lican lawmaker who is more than happy to rally to the defense of those charged in connection with the insurrection. As we recognize the 21st anni versary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our nation, we do so with the facts and truth about the Jan uary 6 domestic attack being whitewashed before our very eyes. According to an August NBC poll, “threats to democracy” has overtaken the cost of living, jobs and crime as the main issue facing American voters.

The targeted corporations complied to avoid bad publicity and costly lawsuits.  Jackson and Sharpton didn’t carry the torch of the traditional Civil Rights Movement, they torched their legacy in order to enrich themselves, and BLM followed Jackson and Sharpton’s lead.

But it wasn’t long until major media outlets ran stories about questionable purchases of million-dollar properties by a BLM founder.

(TriceEdneyWire.com)—A New Mexico judge has done the country a big favor.

Judge Mathew’s ruling is a milestone in the effort to hold public officials ac countable for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. It should provide a road map—and some moral courage—to
