Barnegat Sheds Dispatchers, Contracts With County Sheriff
By Daniel Nee BARNEGAT – The township has severed ties with its in-house emergency dispatchers, opting to save hundreds of thousands of dollars by contracting with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department
to perform the work. The township committee voted unanimously to terminate the employment of the entire dispatching staff, a unionized workforce that had been negotiating with the township for months in an attempt to hatch a
deal that could have saved the jobs. In the end, the two sides remained far apart. Earlier this year, the county offered to take over dispatching for $340,000. Barnegat spent approximately $750,000 on dispatching in 2014 and end-
ed 2015 having spent about $800,000, said attorney Jerry Dasti, who was hired by the township to research a transition to county services. “The cost delta between [the union’s] final proposal and (Dispatchers - See Page 5)

Lacey Residents Take Town To Task Over Snow Plowing
By Daniel Nee LACEY – One Lacey resident gave township officials some constructive criticism over its snow plowing procedures, prompting Mayor Steven Kennis to schedule a meeting with the public works director to review the issue. “It’s becoming overwhelming,” said John Durante, a Ridgemont Drive resident, at a recent meeting of the township committee. Durante said during the January blizzard, plow trucks left too much snow blocking driveways entrances and mailboxes, and piled too much snow at street corners causing motorists’ line-of-sight to be blocked. “It’s not how you push the snow, it’s where you put the snow,” said Durante. “I’ve seen the plow trucks put the snow on top of the (Residents - See Page 5)
