A Question Of State Aid
By Jennifer Peacock It’s not a million, but they’ll take it. The Manchester Township School District is still more than a million dollars shy of the state aid the district received five years ago, officials said. However, the district will receive a slight increase in aid for the 2016-17 budget year. The state released its numbers February 19, with 300 school districts seeing a less than 1 percent increase in the state aid received. Manchester will see $50,491 more than last year, which makes the proposed total aid of $5,561,621. Board of Education President Donald Webster was at the governor’s budget presentation in Trenton, and said he was cautiously optimistic about the state aid numbers. He spoke with The Manchester Times before Friday’s figure release. “We lost $2.3 million as soon as he [Governor Chris Christie] came – As Manchester plans to receive o n b o a r d , ” Webster said. a slight increase in aid toward “That’s when school budget, officials look at we laid off or years where aid shrunk – didn’t fill 20• $5.56 million in some positions, we had proposed state aid. no Fresh men • Up less than 1% sports, and all over last year sorts of other • $50,491 more in state aid stuff that we’ve • In 2010, Manchester lost gradually been able to get some $2.3 million in state aid. but not all of

By Jennifer Peacock LA K EH U RST – T he Lakehurst Borough Council will have its second reading and possible final vote on an ordinance that will ban parking on Fays Lane, a lane perpendicular to Center Street and parallel to Union Avenue. Council President Steven O g le s by t old council and several meeting attendees February 18 that although it was representatives of the VFW Post 10061 on Union Avenue asked that something be done about parking, the Council was not making the move solely based on that request.
Although some parked cars may belong to visitors to local businesses, most of the parked vehicles along Fays Lane belong to residents of Villas at Center Crossing, a small development of three-story tow n homes. Each townhome has a single-car garage and shallow driveway, which appears to fit a mid-sized car but not the commercial pick-up trucks that lined Fays Lane. A single lane, Bove Lane, runs through the townhome complex and is owned by Center Development Company, LLC. The narrow lane can only accommodate vehicles (Council - See Page 4)
