40 days of intense fasting during Great Lent, and the observances of Holy Week leading to it, Holy Pascha, the greatest feast of the Church year had arrived. JACKSON WORKS ON SPRAY PARK FINAL DETAILS By Jennifer Peacock JACKSON – The spray park will open, just not as soon as hoped. It will likely be sometime in late June, closer to the end of the school year, that Jackson’s Spray Park at the Justice Complex will open. There’s still work that needs to be done, Mayor Michael Reina told The Jackson Times. It owes its delay to a number of factors. “It’s not anywhere near being completed,” Reina said. “Construction issues, weather, freezing temperatures [delayed it]. I’m not happy with the aesthetics of it. The benches are not in place, the grass isn’t prepared the right way. I want a little bit more grading. I don’t know if I want to put a small post and rail or not. There are children

Jackson’s Orthodox Faithful Celebrate Easter With Prayer, Family And Food

By Lois Rogers From Brick to Howell, to Jackson to Toms River, the bells of Orthodox churches rang out with the good news of Jesus’ resurrection in the early morning hours of May 1. Five weeks later than the Easter date observed by Western Christians, the bells signaled that, after

By Jennifer Peacock JACKSON ─ Both the Jackson Township Council and Board of Education adopted their respective budgets April 26, with neither receiving public comment before the final approval. Both budgets include a tax increase for residents, but worked hard to stay under a state-mandated 2-percent cap, officials said. “It was a well-done job this year, very smooth, and as usual, very transparent,” Jackson Township School Board member Michael Hanlon said. “Being able to do all we’re doing, and being able to stay under the 2 percent cap is an amazing feat.” School Budget Approved The school district budget rose .40 percent to $148.1 million. The tax rate is going up 2.18 cents, to

1.291 per $100 of assessed value. The budget focuses heavily on upgrading and maintaining infrastructure and facilities, with $738,600 going into Level 1 and Level 2 projects, such as painting, asphalting, and installing security vestibules. Four of the biggest projects include redoing the flooring throughout the administration building, converting the old weight room into a dance/theater/fitness classroom at JMHS, a site-wide paving at Rosenauer, and investigating and mitigating water infiltration at Crawford. Business Administrator Michelle Richardson noted that water is not entering Crawford, and the work done will make sure it stays that way. New Board member Vicki Grasso (Budget - See Page 16)
