NEW WATER MAIN ON LEESVILLE

By Catherine Galioto JACKSON – Construction of a new water main for the Leesville area should take about five weeks to complete, the township announced. Whittendale Excavating will install a new water main on Leesville Road and West Pleasant Grove Road, starting this week. As a result, drivers should expect delays in this area during 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, a second traffic alert was issued for September 6. This alert is for North New Prospect Road and Bennetts (Leesville - See Page 5)

The place is the vision of two Vietnam Veterans who, when they returned home from their duties, were warned not to wear their uniforms in public. Today they can

freely don their respective veterans’ caps— one Army, the other Marines—and stand outside local Wawas and supermarkets collecting donations for their vision. They greet their fellow Vietnam veterans with a “welcome home,” something none of them

got nearly 50 years ago. Army veteran Charles Garofano came home May 12, 1967, from Vietnam to McGuire Air Force Base. He was discharged two days later. “I had gone back to (Veterans - See Page 4)

By Catherine Galioto JACKSON – Last weekend saw a number of reports of items stolen from vehicles throughout the township. The incidents were reported from August 19 to 21 and are unrelated. Captain Steven Laskiewicz, police spokesperson, released the following information

on the recent incidents, including items stolen from vehicles. On August 19 around 5:39 p.m., a Toms River resident reported someone had entered their vehicle parked in Six Flags Great Adventure lot and stolen several debit cards from a wallet. The next day on Toms River Road, a

resident reported at 9 a.m. that someone had broken a window on his vehicle while attempting to make entry to it. Just before 10 a.m. on August 20, a motorist called police to say that while she went into the Quick Chek store located on Leesville Road, someone entered her (Police - See Page 5)
