Jackson Heads Back To School With Updated Curriculum, Safety Projects

By Courtney McCann JACKSON – While most students have been spending more time on the beach than hitting the books over the past few months, Jackson School District officials have spent this summer focusing on little else. With students set to start back to school on September 6, the district has spent the summer preparing to welcome them with an updated curriculum, new course offerings and more plans for the future. The highlights of the curriculum updates include the launch of the new EnVisionMATH Common Core curriculum by Pearson at the elementary school level. The series, already in use by other schools in the state, is designed to help parents and students who have experienced frustration with Common Core math by using a common sense approach to math. “It is fully aligned with the New Jersey standards, said Jackson Superintendent Dr. Stephen Genco. “But it’s a common sense approach that we think both our students and our parents will appreciate.” As part of the district’s five-year curriculum review plan, the science curriculum for grades 6 through 12 has been upgraded to align with the Next Generation Science
