School District Outgrows Its Bus Bays By Jennifer Peacock JACKSON – A shared services agree‑ ment hoped to alleviate the need for more space for school buses has now become official. The Jackson Township Board of Edu‑ cation and the Township have reached an agreement that will allow the Board to use two bays for its bus fleet at the Department of Public Works, 10 Don Connor Blvd. “This right here, it’s tremendous be‑ cause we really needed additional facil‑ ities because our fleet is so large,” Board President Sharon Dey said, thanking both the school business administrator and superintendent for fi nalizing the details. “And thank you to the tow n. The past couple years we’ve had very positive outcomes working with the town. This is just community coming together, helping each other out. The facility is needed.” School Business Administrator Mi‑ chelle Richardson told The Jackson Times that, as of press time, a fee for the dist rict’s use of the bays had not been discussed. But, as with most shared services agreements, the fee, if any, will likely be negligible. The move to the township bays will save taxpayers money, although a specific amount could not be stated. She put the need for the bays in perspec‑ tive in May: the school garage serviced about 70 buses back in the 1980s. Today that garage services a fleet of 155 buses. “To say we have outgrown that facility would be an enormous understatement,’’ Richardson said in May. “We have dou‑ bled in size and we still have only two and a half vehicle bays to work in. We need to do something about that.’’ She said the school facility is “bursting at the seams.” “This is not in any way, shape or form a discussion about outsourcing our entire vehicle maintenance department. By Jennifer Peacock JACKSON – The Jackson Township Council threw its support behind a bill that would require limited liability companies to reveal individual members for specific real estate recordings. The bill A‑ 4100, introduced by Assem‑ blyman Ronald Dancer on September 15, would require limited liability companies to disclose ownership information when sub‑ mitting deed for recording for a dwelling of one to four units. An identical bill was intro‑ duced in the Senate, bill S‑2612 by Senator Samuel Thompson on September 29.
“I made a commitment that we were go‑ ing to seek legislation to put an end to the practice of LLCs acting in secrecy, buying a property and not giving comprehensive information about their true owners were,” Council President Robert Nixon said. “Now this township has done an awful lot with the ordinances we’ve passed recently to force that information into the daylight. But what it takes is really an act of the legislature to ensure that an LLC that buys property in this state, not just in Jackson, should have to be required to list their true owners before (LLC - See Page 5)
