Central Regional Block Scheduling To Roll Out In May

By Chris Lundy BERKELEY – Central Regional middle and high schools will experiment with block scheduling in May before switching over to it permanently for the 2017-2018 school year, officials said. Students will have two schedules that alternate back and forth, board member Wilson told members of the public at the January 19 Board of Education meeting. The days will be made up of three 90-minute classes and one 45-minute class. On one day, there will be four classes. On the next, they will have four different classes. There was an opening after Louis Tuminaro John MacMoyle stepped down. He had been elected to the Central Regional Board of Education. This left a spot that the rest of the board members had to fill. Three people expressed interest in the spot, but MacMoyle was the most qualified, said board president Thomas Guarascio. The three were interviewed by Guarascio and other board members David Ytreboe, Edward Cammarato, and Stephen Pellecchia. “It was based on experience,” Guarascio said. “The other two candidates were lacking in experience and knowledge of the district.” He did, however, encourage the other two candidates to get involved in school events so they could run in the future. MacMoyle was a running mate with Pellecchia, Ytreboe, and (current township councilwoman) Sophia Gingrich for the board in 2010. He did not (Members - See Page 5)
