By Sara Grillo LAKEWOOD – Girl Scout Jillian Peslak recently earned her Silver Award by donating 11 rain barrels she designed with fellow troops to the Ocean County Master Gardeners.

Council Supports Bill Banning Real Estate Solicitation
By Jennifer Peacock JACKSON – T he Tow n s h i p C o u n c i l threw its support behind a bill introduced in the state senate which would prohibit real estate agencies and brokers from canvassing or soliciting homeowners. T h e s e n a t e bi l l , S-3276, was introduced by Senator Brian P. Stack (D-33), the mayor of Union City, on June 1. Union City has a solicitation code, with permits required and set hours allowed for canvassing. The six-page bill was
referred to the senate commerce committee. T hen, at its next meeting, the Township Council showed support for the bill with resolution. “The bill would prohibit any real estate broker, broker salesperson, salesperson, referral agent, or any person who assumes, a dve r t ises, or re p resents the authority to act as or on behalf of a real estate broker, etc., from engaging in any canvassing or solicitation of homeowners,” (Estate - See Page 5)

Jackson Bonds For Vehicles, Building Improvements
By Jennifer Peacock JACKSON – Jackson council approved a bond ordinance for capital improvements and capital equipment. The ordinance, 9-17, calls for appropriating $2,200,525 and authorizing $2,090,499 issued in bonds. The township made a down payment of $110,026. The council unanimously approved the ordi-
nance. No members of the public commented. The bond ordinance includes: •“Various road/drainage and sidewalk improvements, with a total appropriation and estimated cost of $1,150,000, estimated maximum amount of bonds or notes therefor of $1,092,500, and an average period of usefulness of 10 years; •“Various Department of Public Works projects
