OVERVIEW

Montgomery County consists of several popular locations, including: Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Rockville, and Bethesda. It also is home to an extensive array of wide-open spaces, unique venues and walkable town centers. Attendees can expect a unique blend of outdoor experiences when they visit, such as more than 400 parks and trails, a 93,000acre Agricultural Reserve, C&O Canal National Historical Park, Sugarloaf Mountain, historic sites, wineries, breweries and more.

UNIQUE PLACES & SPACES

A museum of modern and contemporary art, Glenstone is integrated into nearly 300-acres of rolling pasture and unspoiled woodland in Potomac. Established by the not-for-profit Glenstone Foundation, the museum provides a contemplative, intimate setting for experiencing iconic works of art and architecture within a natural environment.

Spanning almost 185-miles from Washington, DC to Cumberland, MD, the C&O Canal National Historical Park is a nature lovers dream. In January 2021, the park celebrated its 50th anniversary of becoming a U.S. National Park. Biking the canal towpath, hiking Billy Goat Trail, watching the Potomac River rapids at the Great Falls Overlook, and staying in a fully restored historic lockhouse are among the options here.

Montgomery County also is home to a number of rural areas. In 1980, the Montgomery County Council created an Agricultural Reserve that has been heralded as one of the best examples of land conservation policies in the country. It has become one of the largest open-air tourism attractions in the nation, where travelers can enjoy scenic byways, wineries, breweries, historic attractions, pick-your-own farms, plus hiking at Sugarloaf Mountain.

Montgomery County’s Tastemakers Trail is a self-guided craft beverage trail features 20-plus craft beverage producers offering an array of local beer, wine, cider, coffee and spirits.

For an ultimate ziplining and climbing experience, Adventure Park at Sandy Spring Friends School features 13 trails varying in levels of difficulty that create over 190 unique challenges. Next door is the Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park and Underground Railroad Experience Trail, a cultural park, museum and trail.

PLACES TO MEET

The Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel and Executive Meeting Center in Rockville houses 315 guest rooms, 14 meeting rooms and 35,000-square feet of dedicated meeting and event space. The Atrium is its largest space, and has the capacity to accommodate up to 800 guests. The Millennium Trail, a 10.6-mile loop around Rockville, runs directly behind the property.

Situated on 43-acres of manicured grounds, lush gardens and country trails is the historic William F. Bolger Center Conference Hotel. The property can accommodate almost any type of event with 431 rooms and 70,000square feet of meeting space. Attendees can mingle and relax at the Junior Olympic swimming pool or network in its abundant outdoor space and two on-site dining options.

WHAT’S NEW

TopGolf in Germantown is Montgomery County’s newest entertainment venue with flexible meeting and entertainment space. Rain or shine, day or

night, the state-of-the-art facility can accommodate a variety of group sizes in climate-controlled hitting bays or versatile event spaces, including a signature room, conference room, lowerlevel lounge, and rooftop terrace.

Newly transformed, the 301-room, fullservice DoubleTree by Hilton Washington DC North-Gaithersburg has undergone a $15-million renovation that included remodeled guest rooms, a new lobby, restaurant and bar, refreshed ballrooms and meeting spaces, plus a new swimming pool and fitness center.

The Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg recently completed a $30-million facelift. This 716,000-square foot shopping and entertainment complex features a slate of new restaurants, including Silver Diner, a renovated AMC movie theater, Dave & Busters, additional outdoor seating areas, and an expanded boardwalk surrounding the property's 9-acre lake. Located along the lake and within walking distance are the Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center and Courtyard by Marriott Gaithersburg Washingtonian Center.

Round House Theatre in Bethesda completed a $9-million renovation that included an expanded lobby bar and acoustic improvements to the theater.

Tapestry Collection by Hilton welcomed The Bethesdan Hotel to its portfolio of upscale, original hotels as the brand’s first property in Maryland.

Early last year, Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center celebrated the completion of its $25-million renovations and additions, which included upgrading all 455 guest rooms, revamped venue space highlighted by a 23,000-square foot Grand Ballroom, as well as a flexible, 4,000-square foot Junior Ballroom. The renovations also added a M Club Lounge and The Corby Kitchen restaurant. COMMUNITY

Visit Montgomery is focused on promoting Montgomery County’s road trip itineraries, wide-open spaces, and agricultural experiences. Three popular programs that were created in the past year include: MoCo Eats, MoCo Stay, and the Tastemakers Trail.

MoCo Eats features an online restaurant directory showcasing over 900 restaurants - a food lover’s guide to food and drink establishments with offerings such as outdoor dining, takeout, delivery, reservations, and deals.

MoCo Stay is an online directory featuring lodging options for all interests – for that perfect staycation, road trip or weekend getaway.

Featuring 20-plus local craft beverage producers, Tastemakers Trail is a self-guided experience for those interested in local beer, wine, spirits, coffee, mead and more.

Visit Montgomery also has partnered with the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation and the Montgomery County Government to launch a #MaskUpMoCo campaign that educates residents and visitors as to proper mask requirements in the county.
