CONNECTIONS
Now in its seventh summer, The Chomp attracts over 300 hungry patrons each week who enjoy lunch from gourmet food trucks in Col. Young Park. This summer has been “recess themed through a partnership with the nonprofit Recess Cleveland who brought supersized games and gear (pictured at left) out for the day.

GABRIEL KRAMER
Longtime neighborhood residents have fond memories of Leo’s Casino, a legendary jazz and Motown club which hosted legends such as Otis Redding and the Supremes in the 1960s and 1970s. The venue was torn down in 1999, but a series of recent community programs and concerts have brought back the music and memories from Leo’s.

Residential CONNECTIONS
At Home in the Town A neighborhood becomes a true community when it has a healthy mix of residents, visitors, and employees. MidTown is working to build its resident base by connecting people to housing opportunities in the neighborhood. Envisioning Strong Spaces Sense of place is paramount in creating community – great places inspire people to gather and to engage with others. MidTown has been working on an aggressive agenda to create more sense of place and pride within the neighborhood.

Paint the Town Great public art can quickly change the discussion about a place, and we are aiming to do just that through a collaboration with LAND studio. Working with an incredible network of local community artists, we are adding murals to the walls of three highly visible buildings in MidTown, with many others to come.

Euclid Ave. Bridge Project Bridges can be great connectors between neighborhoods, but they can also be barriers. A public art installation, in partnership with Campus District, Inc., helped move the Euclid Avenue bridge over the Innerbelt from a transition space to a focal point. The original mural design “Breaker of Chains by Darius Steward (pictured above) is a response to the theme of international welcome, created so that those who are often unseen can see themselves represented in the public realm.

Foundations for a Healthier Future MidTown’s collection of health-tech companies are joined by a crop of community-minded projects focused on healthcare, wellness, and nutrition. Current residents and future generations will have stronger connections to medical care thanks to the new UH Rainbow Center (now open), and to healthy food thanks to Dave’s Market and its free community teaching kitchen (set to open in the first quarter of 2019).
