See previous description. Grades: Leaving 2-4 Dates: Aug. 5-9 Time: 1-4 p.m. Middle School Lego Robotics Camp
For beginners: Create and program Lego Robots. Learn about smartbricks and work with the Mindstorms RCX kits. Start by building a simple robot, practice driving it, and program it to go around obstacles by reading touch sensors. At the end of the course, your robot will have an opportunity to share what it has learned. For students with previous experience: Work with the Lego Mindstorms RCX kits to build on your programming skills with experienced instructors. Review how to use sensors and gears. Learn advance techniques of Lego Robotics programming and mechanics and apply your new skills to complete a challenge project. Grades: Leaving 5-8 Dates: Aug. 12-16 Time: 9 a.m.-noon Exploring Microtechnology Camp
Many of the technologies we use daily, such as computers and cellphones, need to transfer heat to cool down during operation. While the physics and engineering concepts of heat transfer are already known, the design of new miniaturized devices is necessary to reduce size, weight, energy requirement and environmental impact of traditional heat exchangers. In this camp, you’ll get experience with design engineers at the Microproducts Breakthrough Institute to build and test a traditional tubeand-shell heat exchanger.Along the way, you’ll learn about design parameters, how to calculate cost, and even make your own microchannel device. Grades: Leaving 5-8 Dates: Aug. 12-16 Time: 1-4 p.m. Location: Off campus
