It’s time to plan summer activities ‌In less than two months, mid-valley students will be out of school, and parents will wonder how to keep their kids busy until the next school year begins.

Looking for outdoor events, camps or sports? We’ve got you covered. Information you need to know about summer youth activities can be found in “Summer in the City.”

We’ve included descriptions of what dozens of organizations in Linn, Benton and Marion counties offer for preschoolers, elementary students, teenagers and even adults.

Whether you’re interested in acting or summer camps, reading or crafts, there’s something for everyone.

ALBANY PARKS & RECREATION‌ 2018 SUMMER CAMPS‌ Registration for any of the following programs can be done by phone, mail or in person at the Albany Parks and Recreation office, open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To register call 541917-7777. The office is located inside City Hall at 333 Broadalbin St. S.W. in downtown Albany.

The parks department also offers many volunteer opportunities for teens and adults. Volunteers are needed to assist with day camps, Fun in the Park, or at events like River Rhythms Pre-Concert Art and NW Art & Air Festival. Contact Debbi Richards at 917-7755 for more information.

CAMP ALBANY‌ Albany Parks and Recreation Camps are back for another exciting summer filled with incredible games, swimming, wonderful adventures, and wacky fun! It is a great way to keep your child physically active and engaged during the summer months while building their social interaction skills. They’ll enjoy a wide variety of fun-filled themed camps including games, sports, arts, crafts, and more! Most camps will visit the COOL! Pool a couple of afternoons for water fun. Many of our camps include field trip adventures, fun guests, and funny skits for the kids to enjoy! Check out the exciting places we’ll be visiting. TREES, LEAVES, AND FOREST BREEZE‌ TIMBER! Campers will take a plunge into the beautiful and bountiful forests in Oregon. Outdoor enthusiasts will head up to Hoyt Arboretum and the World Forestry Center in Portland to learn just how important our forests are to our planet! We will get our hands dirty as we plant our own trees and test our nature knowledge on a tour of Albany’s own

Talking Water Gardens. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your plaid and join us for a week of forest fun!

June 25-June 29 INVENTORS WORKSHOP‌ Exploring, experimenting, and EXPLODING with fun! Inventors Workshop is the time to dig deep into your imagination as you use everyday objects to bring your own designs to life. OMSI will expand our minds as we travel there for a tour of the Submarine! But hold onto your goggles— we will also have time to explore the exhibits and the inventor’s ballroom. This camp is sure to awaken your inner Einstein!

July 9-July 13 NEED FOR SPEED‌ It’s time to shift gears and speed into summer smiles! Model hot rods and your own Camp Albany driver’s license are just the start of a long road of fun. Join us at Camp Albany as we go behind the scenes on KGAL/KSHO radio, get our paws dirty at SafeHaven Humane Society, and cruise over to the Albany Municipal Airport for a tour that is sure to be first class. Some of our amenities include an iceberg to climb, volleyball net, a rope swing, diving boards, slide, and basketball hoops. Pool will be our 12th summer of fun with swim lessons (pre-registration required, call the pool 541-917-7751 for details), recreation swims (including our popular Parent/Tot swim, where parents may bring their children 6 and under), family swims, lap swim, water aerobics. Cool! Pool is also available

for private rentals and birthday parties. We have a large “Zero-Depth Entry” play area with water up to 18 inches deep. This area contains a playground style play structure. Another feature of Cool! Pool is our Lazy River. This is an oval shaped area of water 3-feet deep with a current which gently pushes guests around in the oval. The River area is not only used for recreation swim times, but is also the location of our water aerobics class. Participants in this class receive the added benefit of the current pushing against them, adding resistance. Cool! Offers a rectangular area with maximum depth of 4.5 feet, where guests have the opportunity to play basketball or just swim and enjoy themselves. This area is also used during our Lap Swim for fitness swimming. The area of the pool which stands out tallest is our big, twisty slide. With a lifeguard in the catch basin of the pool, children of all ages and heights are able to ride our slide, with big smiles on their faces.

Recreation Swims Recreation Swims will be from 1-4 p.m. weekdays, from 1-5 p.m. weekends and from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP: WHERE SUMMER HAPPENS!‌ Summer day camp, sponsored

by Coastal Farm, is offered Monday through Friday for ages 3-14 years old at the new YMCA! Join us for one or all 10 of our camp weeks to fill your summer with swimming, field trips, and awesome themed activities! We’ll split the kids into three groups: Little Kids Camp, especially for 3 to 6 year old- must be potty trained, Big Kids Camp, for kids in 2nd through 5th grade or Leaders in Training Camp, for 6th through 9th graders. Kids will love the activities made just for them, and parents will love the specialized attention our leaders give your kids!

We will bike from headwaters to main river junctions to follow several rivers and the route they take through our community to reach their destination of the Willamette River.
