Welcome to the Minnesota Energy Fair! Did you know that Minnesota is leading the Midwest in solar energy development? Not only is the state one of the most developed wind energy markets in the US, but Minnesota homes, businesses, and electric utilities are paving the way for Midwest leadership in solar energy. Minnesotaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leadership in clean energy and sustainability is no accident. With support from state policymakers, local governments, universities, businesses, and advocacy groups, the state has created effective and forward thinking policies and programs that help residents save money with energy efficiency and make profitable investments in local, clean energy. With 80 free workshops, 20 professional development classes, and 60+ free exhibits, The Minnesota Energy Fair is organized to help you access these programs, reduce your energy use, make smart local energy investments, and organize for local sustainability initiatives. Beyond the practical aspects of helping everyone be part of the clean energy revolution, The Energy Fair aims to inspire. With keynote speakers representing the stateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading minds in clean energy, live music, great food, and family activities, we want to expand the network of support for local action on clean energy. To achieve our vision of a shared, clean distributed energy system that provides opportunities for all to benefit, we need to let our elected officials know we are paying attention. We need to let them know that these issues will define how we vote, what we buy, and where we invest. To do this, we need to organize. We need to grow our networks. We need to speak up. And, we need to act. Please take this first-year event as a time to tool up and get energized. There is limited parking along Plato Blvd. from Wabasha Street West toward the park. Many private businesses near the park open their parking lots to the public, and most charge a fee. Confirmed parking lots as of 8/10/17 include: On Friday, parking will be available at 75 Plato Blvd West for $10/day/spot. The lot will also be open Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, parking will be available at 200 Plato Blvd West for $10/spot/day and at 115 South Wabasha Street for $5/spot/day. Handicap parking is available on the north side of Water Street between Wabasha and Plato Blvd. until full. There is no general parking on that stretch of Water Street, but it is open to drop people off at the Main Entrance. The parking lots on Harriet Island are not open to the public during the festival.

Tara Houska (Couchiching First Nation) is a tribal attorney based in Washington, D.C., the National Campaigns Director of Honor the Earth, and a former advisor on Native American affairs to Bernie Sanders. She advocates on behalf of tribal nations at the local and federal levels on a range of issues impacting indigenous peoples. Tara recently spent six months living and working in North Dakota fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline. She is a co-founder of Not Your Mascots, a non-profit committed to educating the public about the harms of stereotyping and promoting positive representation of Native Americans in the public sphere.

Michael Noble is a 30-year energy leader, well-known for shaping and driving the major public policy innovations that are speeding Minnesota and the Midwest’s transition from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy. As Executive Director of Fresh Energy, Michael builds and catalyzes partnerships to secure new policies and harness market forces to achieve visionary change. SP9. Meeting the Needs of the Solar Workforce: Solar Training and Hiring Insights:

The Solar Training Network, led by The Solar Foundation, and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, exists to help bridge the gap between solar training and solar employment opportunities. As part of this endeavor, the Solar Training Network completed a comprehensive solar training needs assessment report. The report aggregates data from several research efforts, including an extensive survey of more than 400 solar installers. It also draws on interviews with dozens of solar employers, trainers and workforce development boards. This seminar will elucidate the findings of this report, as well as provide an overview of the programs offerings, upcoming releases, and general training and hiring insights. Overview of Safe Work Practices for PV Installers (1 NABCEP): Learn how this UW Milwaukee grant program can provide free Train-the-Trainer classes to your personnel, enabling you to offer solar specific safety training to all of your employees. Learn how to identify and mitigate overexertion, slip/trip/falls, struck-caught, electric shock/electrocution hazards when in the field, as well as topics relating to noise, environment, and employee rights and responsibilities.
