HOW SHOULD YOU RECONFIGURE FOR 2022?

It looks like working from home is here to stay and although it may not be a new concept for the majority of us, we may still need to change our set ups. Your home office may have once been a temporary solution, but it’s time to reconfigure for 2022.

Whether you need space for important calls, inspiring creativity or smashing out productivity, your home office should reflect your personal needs, unlike many offices that cater to the mass.

Consider ergonomics Comfort is key. The lines between working and living have become blurred. In the office, you may have taken regular breaks to chat with colleagues but working from home requires more time management. As well as taking regular breaks, you should consider your monitor set up and desk chair. Good ergonomics can prevent eye strain and repetitive strain, as well as back and neck pain, consequently increasing productivity and wellbeing.

Choosing a monitor where the height can be adjusted throughout the day will help you find comfort for different tasks. Low Blue Light technology and Flicker Free technology will reduce the strain on your eyes, maintaining eye health in an ever-increasing digital world.

Additionally, furniture has a role to play. Sitting on a kitchen stool or the sofa may seem like a nice idea at first but long-term it could lead to discomfort and pain. Instead, put your health first and choose a chair with support and a desk at the right height and position.

Add a personal touch The great thing about a home office is that you can make it your own. It’s an opportunity to decorate it in a way that inspires and motivates you. Research has revealed some elements of home office design are proven to increase wellbeing and productivity*.

Connecting with nature such as natural light, views of greenery and bringing the outdoors in with house plants can increase wellbeing by reducing blood pressure, heart rate and muscle tension. It can also help you feel more rejuvenated and destressed, allowing you to focus for longer.

Colour can also have an impact on your mood. Energising colours such as yellow, green and orange or calming colours such as soft blue and pink can contribute to a working atmosphere that inspires productivity.

Video conferencing and connectivity Staying connected is one of the most important aspects of remote working. Video conferencing solutions ensure remote workers can feel part of a team and collaboration can continue. Crackly audio and poor video quality is not enough, home offices should be equipped with technology that ensures everyone is seen and heard as if they are physically in the room together.

In some cases, auto-tracking cameras are useful for people that move around their space. Similarly, noise remover mics ensure that any distractions or background noise is not picked up. Your WiFi may need to be boosted if you suffer from poor connection by upgrading your package, selecting a good place for your router or purchasing an extender.

The home office in 2022 should be a professional space that supports your wellbeing and productivity levels – allowing you to perform your role just as effectively as if you were in the office.
