Why should you be using LED over LCD in your office?
You will hear many conflicting opinions surrounding LED over LCD displays, some arguing the key benefits of both while others believe it simply doesn’t matter! To decide which solution is best for you, understanding their features and what they can offer is key.
How they work The main difference between the two technologies is their inner workings. LED displays use lightemitting diodes whereas LCD uses liquid crystal displays. LCD displays have lamps at the back of the screen which are fluorescent with a layer of liquid crystal. As these two plates are placed together, the images are made by the light passing through the liquid crystals.
Resolution LED displays are known for their brighter picture quality, with better resolution and responsiveness due to more pixels. The LED monitor gives better colour accuracy, contrast and black levels for a sharper image. LED operates with a dimming capability to be more reliable in a range of settings.
In comparison, LCD displays have lower resolution and are not as efficient in low-light environments. Plus, white saturation causes uneven brightness. Weak pixels from LCD results in the inconsistency of shading or intensity.
Design Within office spaces, LED displays can be purchased in a variety of sizes and have a slimmer design allowing for more flexibility in their use and adaptability to the environment.
However, LCD displays have better wide viewing angles and anti-glare as the angle is formed on either side of the bias angle and the pixels are evenly lit.
Cost and energy consumption Cost is one of the main benefits of LCD as they tend to be on the lower end of the price market, meaning they are the more affordable option.
However, although there is a higher upfront cost, in terms of long-term cost, LED displays are the better choice as they are more energy-efficient. In terms of sustainability and energy levels, LED displays are known to have the lowest energy consumption levels of all displays. Due to lower energy consumption and therefore lower cost in the long-term, this, in turn, leads to a longer lifespan.
An LED display could be saving you up to 50,000 more hours than an LCD display, with no heat or UV emissions. This means the display will need to be replaced less often, which saves time and money and is better for the environment - especially as LCDs contain mercury which is extremely hazardous.
Verdict: Overall LED is proven to provide reliable high resolution, low energy costs and be a perfect solution for your office space.
