Buy me an island A green isle in Canada’s Nova Scotia is the perfect retreat for a yacht owner who wants to feel remote without actually being so, says Olivia Michel 5 5 - a c re i d y l l o f ro l l i n g meadows surrounded by tall pines, the postcard-pretty Kaulbach Island is perfectly set up for superyacht owners. It’s situated in the protected waters of Nova Scotia’s Mahone Bay and equipped with a wharf and deep anchorage – and if you are looking to expand your fleet further, a pair of small boats (one motor, one sailing) is included in the price. The centerpiece of the island is the grand main house, Osprey Nest, with 11 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, cozy fireplaces and sweeping views over the Atlantic Ocean. Sitting amid manicured lawns, the Nest’s stone walls, bleached timber porches and rustic pine

interiors fully embrace a Canadian cabin aesthetic, only with considerably more living space. Plus, if yo u’ re wo rri ed abo ut maintenance costs during those chilly northern winters, fear not: efficient, environmentally friendly aqua-thermal technology is used to heat the property. Further guest accommodation is offered in a pretty beach cottage and a threebedroom converted farmhouse. The island’s one mile of private coastline may feel remote but it’s just a short boat ride from the 18th-century seaside village of Chester, home to a yacht club and golf course. And Halifax Stanfield International Airport is a mere 90-minute drive away.

NOBU HOTEL MIAMI BEACH, US Where is it? Part of the hotel empire of chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Robert De Niro, it sits in the historic 1950s Eden Roc property on Miami’s Mid-Beach – but with a distinctive chicly understated Japanese vibe. Why the hype? Real estate is in short supply on Miami Beach, so three years after opening its doors Nobu Hotel is still a buzzed-about “new” venue. This is in large part thanks to the hot-ticket restaurant (waiting lists for Nobu Miami are months long), which has lured a bevy of famous faces through its dark wood doors. What to have? Check into the eclectic Esencia Wellness Spa, where the interior decor combines minimalist white spaces, moss walls, terrariums and life-size unicorn planters filled with succulents, for a Nobu Zen massage. Available only to Nobu guests, each treatment starts with the Nobu stretching ritual – designed to mirror chef Nobu’s morning routine – before using a combination of Swedish, Thai, shiatsu, sports and deep-tissue techniques. Best by boat? Sea Isle Marina is mere seconds from the hotel and can host yachts up to 110ft, while One Island Park has eight superyacht berths up to a maximum of 800ft. nobuhotelmiamibeach.com
