Akasha - The first of the five material elements that our universe is composed of, the ether. Asana - Yoga pose. Ananda - Joy, happiness and bliss. Ayurveda - One of India’s traditional systems of medicine. Chakra - 7 Subtle energy centers, wheels of light: 1st - Root, 2nd - Sacral, 3rd - Solar Plexus, 4th - Heart, 5th - Throat, 6th - Third Eye, 7th - Crown. Chandra Namaskar - Moon salutation. Guru - A spiritual teacher. Karma - Concept of cause and effect. Karuna - Compassion. Kundalini yOGA - The yogic path focusing on the kundalini process. Mudra - A gesture used to recirculate energy and focus the mind. Mantra - A sacred sound or phrase, such as Om. Namaste - Salutation: “The light within me bows to the light within you.” Om (or Aum) - Slow, steady sound - mantra. Prana - Life force energy. Pranayama - Regulated breathing, using the breath in an organized way to circulate prana in the body. Shanti - Peace. Sushumna - The main energy channel situated inside the spinal column. Surya Namaskar - Sun salutation. Savasana - A relaxing pose. Yogi/Yogini - a male/female practitioner of yoga.
