PETER BOTOS Happy Holidays. After a hectic school year for our Association, we arrived at the gates of a well-deserved summer break. It's time to count and analysis of what happened in these past months. In September, we headed a letter to the municipal groups of the Socialist Party Winning Alcorcon, Citizens and Izquierda Unida, which are those that form the opposition groups in the city of Alcorcón to request an interview with the order to get us to know his view of the importance for them the Museum of Glass Art.

pleasure to witness that October was made in the Madrid town of Nuevo Baztán by segoviana artist Alba Martin, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 292 anniversary of the founding of this suburb. In November we attended the glassmaker meeting held in the premises of the Nat Stained glass factory in Sant Andreu de la Barca (Barcelona), where the artist Martin Janecký held an exhibition of his window technique.
In this same month of November we celebrate the Annual General Meeting of our Association in which the annual accounts, the They echo our request the activities carried out during first three municipal groups the year, the renewal of the mentioned were made and mandate of the Board and had with them the the program of activities for appropriate interviews. the following year were In the editorial of the approved. We also conducted in that month a visit to the facilities of "The Mediterranean" in the Valencian town of L'Olleria, and are run by the family Abdon.
On March 31 we attended the delivery of the National Award for Arts in the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, and was nominated for the Catalan firm Luesma Vega SL, formed by glassmakers and artists Luesma Xavi Ester Vega. Last May, we call upon the various political groups that make our City City Council asking for their collaboration in order to design a strategy to enable all our citizens aware of the existence of MAVA. The only political group that responded to our request was to win Alcorcón, with whose representative, Henry Ferris, we held a meeting at the end of that month of May. As a result of this meeting we have sent letters offering our "Know Your Museum" at the Alcorcón Hospital Foundation, Senior Centers and Adult Schools of our city. On various dates in the month of May 3rd glassmakers meetings in L'Olleria, in the National Glass Centre Foundation in La Granja, and in Sitges they were held. We could only be present in the last of these meetings and feel a great sadness of not being able to go to the other two scheduled events, as had been our desire. In June last we visited the exhibition "Art Vetrario Muranese" in the Technology Museum Farm, visit to which we refer on page 5 of this Bulletin. And we continue to expect our City's written regarding the prohibition to continue with our program "Concerts in the MAVA" response.

Few people know that the Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja is the only center in Spain that teaches the degree in Fine Arts with specialty glass.
This training, which has been teaching since 2006, presents as a novelty for the course 2016/2017 the blended format conversion: the theoretical subjects will be taught so online, while practical will take place in the privileged enclave of the Royal Factory Crystals of La Granja. The approximate ratio is 15 students per class, which favors a very personalized instruction.

this international mobility is promoted. As Alvarado explains, "we are within the Erasmus + program and have mobility agreements with European universities. We also have bag work and professional internships. That put students in contact with companies in the industrial sector, with art workshops or institutions related to the glass, depending on their interests. Many of them end up working in those companies engaged in practices ". While living along the creative path is more complicated, as in the art world in general, Alvarado noted that many students opt to open their own shop or engage in teaching. For its part, the professional application oriented industry has a not inconsiderable projection, "either in the container or developing technological products. There are many multinationals working in Spain and have high demand for these professionals, "says the head of studies. The Museum of Islamic Art, Cairo is ready for reopening, two years and a half after an explosion caused serious damage to the building and its collection of pieces, one of the largest in the world, according to its director, Ahmed Shouki. On a visit to the museum for the Spanish-speaking press before the official opening, which is scheduled to take place shortly, Shouki explained the process of rehabilitation that has undergone the building after the explosion of a car bomb in the Directorate General of Police Cairo, opposite the same. The craft has become a tourist cabins Polendos engine and aggregate population of La Mata de Quintanar, which just added 250 registered inhabitants between the two. However, it has a large representation of glassmakers, ceramists, restorers or silversmiths, who have decided to show the beauty of their craft to visitors with guided tours of their workshops in this county, located just over 15 kilometers of Segovia visits. This attractive segoviano was born 16 years ago when the Consistory decided to knock down a few blocks and offer the new space to small entrepreneurs. The municipality was chosen mostly by craftsmen, which gave rise to the project of The Caravas that encourages the presence of artisans with advantages in the rental of spaces. "At the time tried to pioneer something, create a space for twelve artisans were installed here intended to energize the area," acknowledges Councilman Angel Miguel Molinero. This initiative, which takes its name from the meetings of pastors who were in town for lunch, dinner or celebrate something, worked very well at first, says the mayor, as the artisans benefited from low rents and instead opened all weekends their establishments. However, it was difficult for them to maintain this activity due to its presence at fairs so was reduced to a weekend with agreed schedules. "It is taking a lot
of life to the people on weekends," he says. "The project worked very well at first. but ended up neglecting and now we are at a point where the twelve workshops are busy, "says Miller. Therefore, the commitment of artisans, restaurateurs and rural accommodation have been proposed reactivating Caravas and it opened a tourist office, "one in the whole region," said Miller who is also a ceramist and has its own workshop in the village. Guided tours of the workshops and in the near future training for visitors are the axes of the plan scheduled for the Caravas visits. "The power is in the set, it is difficult to find twelve workshops together in such a small town," asserts Miller, who recalls that in 2000 this area was "very depressed, almost abandoned." Among the dozen artisans who are part of the project of The Caravas there engravers, goldsmiths, glaziers, decorators and artists of wood most of them with more than 15 years of occupation and, in some cases, have spent more than a decade in Cabañas de Polendos. This is the case of Toly Mateos, dedicated to "break glass" as she says. Make 'small and large' commissions in glass and ensures that "each piece is unique."
being surrounded by more artisans. "Among all the workshops we are one 'superlarge' in which even shared projects such as the creation of a website for online sales of our products. An expense that individually we could take, "explains the window. Mateos admits that when he started was frowned upon women were windows, this was his first fight he recalls. Fortunately, he says, things have changed and stresses that crafting profession is "booming". Stresses that make "pieces that nobody does" and that "society needs more artisans." One of his students, Mariano Gonzalez, is now part of the company Toly and for her, "is a proof that there are young people who want to be a craftsman." Begoña Casado, another artisan, has been in Cabañas 12 years and three own workshop, is dedicated to the decoration of all that furniture that falls into their hands, often from garbage, "you find real gems" he says. In addition to his work in the restoration workshop she teaches in the Cantalejo with the Provincial de Segovia. He acknowledges having regained some optimism to the draft The Caravas.
"The idea is good, what happens is we have to get people to come and you can do many things. We are going to start and we have a large range of possibilities "reflects Mateos understand that Cabanas is Married and believes that Caravas "an ideal place to work" and is" the only way for the people to especially appreciates the fact of regain some good atmosphere.
