Last September, on the occasion of the celebration of the Toyama International Glass Exhibition 2018, we decided to return to Japan and take advantage of the trip to visit some glass art museums that were not far from the city of Toyama.

Near the Museum is Notojima Glass Studio, where demonstrations of blown glass are made and you can buy pieces in your store. The Venetian Glass Museum in Hakone is spectacular.

It has Italian-style buildings that house a museum and shops with pieces made in Venice and Murano. Outside there is a beautiful garden that surrounds a canal like a pond. The garden has a large amount of glass sculptures, as well as a cafeteria with an open terrace at one end where live performances of Italian ballads are performed. The Museum houses a collection of more than 100 pieces of Venetian glassware. It shows modern and classic works in all forms, including vases, glasses, lamps and sculptures. In one of the buildings is located a large collection of pieces made by the Barovier family throughout its history. Also Livio Seguso and Dale Chihuly each have a room where you can enjoy their works, so different from each other, the first in a perfect colorless glass and the second with a spectacular color. Our trip has had a very tight schedule and in the end a bit exhausting, taking into account the amount of public transport we have had to use, but it has been worth it because we have been able to enjoy the museums, the people - who are always willing to help you if you see that you have the slightest problem- of gastronomy, of punctuality in the schedules, of the impeccable organization of means of transport and street cleaning, among other aspects. A trip to not forget.
