WEDDING PLANNING STEPS Below is a basic list of wedding planning steps that will help you organize the perfect wedding (or close to it). Here are some tips for a good experience when shopping for your dress: •
Decide if you want to purchase or rent a gown

Do research on a few basic things about cost, design and wedding fashion shop talk. This will help you to understand what wedding dress styles suit your body type and to successfully communicate with bridal retailers. Things to consider are wedding dress styles, dress style and body type, neckline styles, the fabric, and the designers.

BEAUTY HAIR & MAKEUP Every Bride Wants To Look Her Best!! Other than the appropriate wedding gown, a bride’s hairstyle and makeup can make or break her overall appearance. We recommend the following MUST Do if you want to look your best.

Hairstyle consultation and test runs must be done prior to your wedding day. Decide if you are wearing a veil, tiara or other type of hairpiece and make sure you advise your hairstylist. If at all possible, take the veil, tiara or hairpiece with you to the consultation. Take note of the climatic conditions of where in Jamaica you are having your wedding. If not, this can have a devastating effect on your hairstyle and ultimately your pictures. If you are having a garden, beach or other type of outside wedding, windy or breezy conditions do not do well for a let-down hair style. Your hair will be all over the place and your pictures will tell the story. You do not want to look untidy on your wedding day!

Make-up consultation and trial must be done prior to your wedding day Expert makeup artists will ensure that your makeup blends with your complexion; Less is Best. If you have blemishes, ensure that a concealer is used and not layers of foundation. Ask for makeup that stays. e.g. Revlon‘s Cover Girl colorstay. Touching your face and then your dress may result in makeup on your rather pristine wedding gown. Most importantly of all, make sure your makeup enhances you and you are happy with the results.
To get married legally in Jamaica, no blood tests are required. A Wedding in Jamaica can be performed ANY DAY including weekends and holidays. Provided that you have applied for and have been granted a marriage license by the Ministry of National Security, a couple can be married just 24 hours after arriving in the island. Some ceremony officiant will apply for the marriage license on your behalf, however if they do not offer that service, below is a guide on how to secure it for yourselves.

The Marriage Ceremony The ceremony must be performed by 6:00 PM or nightfall. Two witnesses must be present at the ceremony and for the signing of the marriage certificate. Witnesses must be at least 18years or older.

Costs of wedding cakes The quantity of guests A separate cake is done to feed your guests. Slices from this cake is either served as dessert at the reception or placed in engraved boxes and given to guests. The display cake is cut by the bride and groom and they feed each other with slices from it. Then the bride and groom take it home and share with family members and friends. The top tier is normally saved for freezing and to be had on the first anniversary. Order your cake at least 3 months in advance. Cake designers normally require 50% deposit up front and the final payment 7 days before the wedding.

CEREMONY RECEPTION The number of wedding ceremony and reception locations that couples have at their disposal across Jamaica is practically limitless. Choosing the right location, especially for your reception, really depends on how formal you want your wedding to be and the size of your wedding budget! The most important part of your wedding is the ceremony. The wedding ceremony is why close family is there, but many of the guests look forward to the reception, and that is why you need to put as much planning into your wedding reception as the actual ceremony.

There are two basic types of wedding ceremonies. One is where the vows take place at one location, and then everyone travels to another location for the reception (e.g. Church or Garden) and the other is where the ceremony and the reception are held at the same location (e.g. at a hotel or country club setting). Most couples (brides in particular) don’t usually like hearing this, but a large percentage of guests perceive the reception as a much bigger event than the wedding ceremony.
Important Points to Consider: 1. What type and style wedding you want—traditional church or garden for the ceremony and hotel, restaurant, home setting or other for your reception 2. What is your budget 3. Can the location(s) accommodate your number of guests 4. What other event(s) are taking place at the venue on your date 5. Is there ample parking for your guests and if not what are the parking arrangements 6. Does the venue have a minimum spend as their policy 7. What is included in the rental fee or the package being offered
8. What are the deposit, refund and cancellation policies 9. How long will you have the venue for 10. What kind of coordination assistance does the venue provide 11. What exactly is included in the food & beverage package 12. Can you take in your own caterer, beverage, etc and are there any vendor fees 13. Are there any other charges such as; energy surcharges, corkage fees, taxes and service charges

BUDGET Why create a budget for your wedding? Love is a wonderful thing, but it makes most of us react to situations more emotionally than normal. When caught up in the romance of planning a wedding, it’s all too easy to throw caution to the wind and spend, spend, spend.

HIRE A WEDDING CONSULTANT OR A PLANNER. This is the #1 must-do savings tip. In theory, the consultant/planner will do all the legwork for you, shop around for the best bargains, and use their network of vendors to get insider deals. INVITE LESS PERSONS. Most catering halls and restaurants charge by person, so every person is an expense to you. Before inviting someone you’ve never even seen before to your wedding, consider if you want to take that wedding cost upon yourself. More persons will certainly lessen your spending power to have the nicer elements in your wedding such as more pictures, videography, better decorations, etc.

RENT YOUR GOWN AND SUIT. as opposed to purchasing. Consider the additional costs such as alterations, steaming, storing, etc.

AVOID THE HOLIDAY SEASONS. Holiday weddings are more expensive because you are competing for catering services, wedding and reception sites, D.J.’s, limousines, photographers and more. During holidays, these type of services tend to raise their prices, especially at Christmas and flowers cost more especially Valentines Day.

HAVE A MORNING OR MIDDAY WEDDING. It’s less expensive since it costs less for food, plus

most weddings held at these times are more informal, so you won’t need elaborate decorations. 6.
HAVE YOUR CEREMONY & RECEPTION AT THE SAME VENUE. This is usually less expensive and many venues such as a hotel, members club or church hall offer this type of package.

ORDER A SIMPLE 2 OR 3 TIERED CAKE. The bottom layer can be real and the 2nd and 3rd layer can be dummies usually made from Styrofoam but decorated to look very real.

REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BRIDESMAIDS. Even though they will pay for their attire, the cost for their bouquets can put a dent in your budget.

LIMIT THE DRINKS. Most venues offer a fruit drink upon arrival of your guests to the reception and a fruit drink with the meal. Consider only having wines for toasting. Have fruit drinks, water, and wine for those who wish to stay after the formalities for dancing and mingling.
10. NEGOTIATE THE PHOTOGRAPHY DEAL. Digital technology gives couples a new option, letting you pay a photographer for time and a cd with the pictures. You do the printing. But it’s increasingly easy to negotiate a deal where you buy some and get some on a cd.

Prices vary for flowers. Be sure to explore but manage your expectations according to your budget. A standard wedding would require flowers as per the following: • Bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids • Boutonnieres for the groom, ringbearer, giveaway father, groomsmen, ushers, father of the groom, grandfathers and mother’s escort (if mother is unmarried or in another relationship) • Corsages for the mothers and grandmothers. • Large arrangements for the altar • Centrepieces for the guest tables at the reception

INVITATIONS & FAVORS (souvenirs) BEFORE YOU MAKE OR PURCHASE YOUR INVITATIONS, ensure that the time and date for your wedding is reserved and confirmed with THE CEREMONY & RECEPTION VENUES. Depending on the design, changing any information on your invitation will cost almost the same as the original order. 6 Months prior to your wedding start looking for invitations. Begin compiling your guest lists and collecting addresses. Make an A List for people who must be at your wedding, a B List for those who you would like to have there but it is not a must, and a C List for those persons who can fill in if anyone from your A or B lists decline. 4 Months prior Order invitations. Make sure the spelling of names, venue names,

addresses, date and times are correct. If using a calligrapher or other people to help address your invitations, order an additional 10 to 15% outer envelopes. 3 Months is the appropriate time to start addressing invitations, doing a few at a time. For guests living overseas, this is the ideal time to send them their invitations. 2 Months prior to the wedding date, recheck the guest list to make sure you have not forgotten anyone. 6 Weeks is the appropriate time to send out all/remaining invitations. 2 Weeks prior, all responses should be in. Please note that the Caterer will need a final count in order to adequately prepare for your number of guests.

Marriage is a ‘unio mystica’ — a mystical union.
Marriage was the foundation of the first human institution, the family. Marriage is an exclusive relationship. This helps the couple to enter the union with a keen understanding and

The marriage counsellor is a facilitator who should demonstrate his care for the couple by his warmth, understanding acceptance and neutral objective non-judgemental attitude. One goal of the pre-marital preparation and enrichment process is to correct faulty information and myths about marriage relationships. Further, it is to help the couple to understand themselves, and what each one brings to the marriage. It is to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and to be realistic about the adjustments they must make to have a successful relationship.
MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT A wedding is a sacred service. Therefore be careful how you select music for your special day. Some churches will say no to the use of secular songs being sung or played in the church. Music can be provided by an organ, a small musical ensemble or cd’s via a music system. Make sure you advise your officiant of the type music and system you are using for your ceremony. Secular selections can be retained for your reception. Make sure the type of music selected can be appreciated by all and it adds the right ambience.

DO NOT wait until the day before your wedding to do this! Make a list of all the pictures you want to capture on your special day. Appoint a dependable member of your family or close family friend who knows both sides of the family and your close friends, to organize the people you specifically want photos with.
