Fort Worth YMCA + Youth Hostel New Views Along the Trinity

The site of the project is located off of the trinity river near Heritage Park Plaza. One of the first

The site of the project is located off of the trinity river near Heritage Park Plaza. When analyzing the site many factors were taken into consideration such as the existing park and the 80 foot drop in theelevation. The objective was to create a building that could engage with the space between the park and the garage while at the same time being considerate of the existing context. When approaching the site the first thing you see is the youth hostel suspended 20 feet above the plaza space by pilotis. In the background you can see the YMCA peaking out from behind the hostel. This is intended to draw the pedestrian traffic towards it so that when they go underneath the hostel they are greeted with a new public space that is created between the entrances of the YMCA and the youth hostel. As you approach the YMCA entrance you are immediatly given a view down to the basketball court. On the ground level you can look down to the volleyball courts go to the running track/flex space or walk past both to the outdoor lounge. As you move further down into the building you have views down to the pools and raquetball/ basketball/volleyball courts while eventually gaining access to these spaces. The bigger spaces are located with views to the river for the people participating or watching the activities.
