The Collage and The Low Relief Model a study in the analogous landscape

The first step in this excercise was to create a collage utilizing newspapers, magazines, and other material provided within a time limit of an hour.

The next step was to go back and analyze the collage based on the seven rules and then makes changes to it in order to fully represent them

The adjusted collage was then scanned and, if neccesary, photoshop was used in order to get a legible print on a sheet of strathmore paper

Once printed, the image was then rerendered by hand using graphite to create tonality that would begin to assign fields to the drawing

Additions were made to the drawing such as pieces of strathmore, different shading techniques and datums in order to add depth to the drawing

This then led to what would be the next part of the assignment which was to recreate the drawing as a low relief model using paper, chipboard, and wood

Layers of either basswood or chipboard were added to better identify the fields and depth. Similarly framing strips were used to add different texture to the model

Finally the model was painted using a mixture of acrylic paint and graphite to give it a metallic appearance. techniques such as sanding hand rendering were used

The Analagous Landscape From low relief model to programmed site

As a continued study from the previous project, the next assignment was to transform the collage into an analagous landscape with a fully functioning program. The program of the site would include a garden space, an inhabitable wall building, and a gallery. The first step was to identify the datum in the collage that would become the wall building and also which defined fields would allow for the garden and gallery. In a simultaneous excercise the collage was then compressed into an appropriate size so that it may be studied in order to create the facade for the wall building.

Mission San Miguel San Antonio Texas Museum Addition to the existing context

This assignment involved proposing a museum for the Mission San Miguel in San Antonio Texas on the same site. The investigation for this project involved looking into historic preservation in order to not interfere with the existing site in a way that would cause problems. The Program called for things such as a gallery, exhibition display, map room, garden, greenhouse, observation tower, bookstore, and a library among other utility rooms. The location of the building that was chosen was the optimal selection because there were no pieces of ruins, trees, or anything else of importance in the footprint of the proposal.

University of Texas at Arlington -Annex Redesign Giving back to the Architecture students The existing annex building is located in between the Nanofab building to the north, the Maverick Activity Center (MAC) to the west, and the existing Architecture building to the south. The site provided many challenges as there is a slight downward slope from east to west that needed to be considered when trying to make the first floor even. Another detail that was import was how the building would interact with the surrounding buildings and be able to bring people in from all sides. The basic program requirements were to include the existing spaces which include the following: Start-Up lounge, a conference room, two meeting rooms, the shimadzu research institute offices, a drawing studio, materials classroom, and a materials lab. Along with the basic program we were also given the task of adding more to the building that would give back to the students. In talking with the students, a majority of them spoke about wanting a bigger more open space where they could work with materials in a hands-on environment. This would mean that they would need a space that could get messy but could also be cleaned up easily. The end result was to make two separate buildings with a courtyard space in the middle that could be used for work or other activities after hours. The design also included a separate wall hanging off of the west and south sides of the building for the students to experiment with their own designs.

C al themi te A post oil trading port

The platform surrounding the existing oil rig is attached to create a port that expands horizontally into the ocean and slowly spreads out creating various docks

At the peak of the age of oil I was on top of the world. The source of my popularity? Providing that precious black gold to all those who depended on its power, and in return I was treated like a king. Times were great when the attention was on me, but that soon ended. When the oil ran out and everyone was forced to find a new source of power I was left abandoned. For what felt like years i was alone in a decrepit state, until a group of people found me and wanted to give me new life. They moved me out into international waters where they are free to do whatever they please. Using leftover pieces from other rigs that did not make it I was given a new body that grew out from my existing one. My new form was able to become more with the ocean around me as I can constantly grow and expand to feel more of the fresh water and cool breeze.. Now I serve as a beacon for those who are looking to trade with others, whether it be goods or information, that which they may have obtained along their travels.

Project Site

International Waters

Electric Ladyland

The location of the project is Portland, Oregon, specifically along the downtown waterfront known as Tom McCall Park. The city is currently organizing plans for the development of a new seawall and park redevelopment, the project proposal is an intervention on the site to incorporate the seawall and create a series of spaces that tie together both the landscape of the park and the interaction of the river. The intervention would be a mix of sound installations both in the park and floating off of the river bank to create a movement that begins from the Portland Saturday market and would terminate at the bowl which is on the southern end of the park. The terminating piece will hold the main performance space that will be suspended from the southwest Hawthorne Bridge and will hang over the bowl.

T arant as P ower S t at i on C omp et it ion Notte della Taranta is the most important festival dedicated to the revival of the pizzica tradition and its fusion with other music languages going from world music to rock, from jazz to symphony. Every summer since 1998, the last week of August a big concert with more than 100,000 people takes place in Salento. The competition identified an area next to the place of the event in the town of Melpignano in the territoty of Grecia Salentia, and proposed the project of a multifunctional building with the double aim of hosting service spaces for the event and didactic exhibition spaces to keep the event alive also in the other seasons. This Competition was done in groups of two and for our submission our objective was to not limit this event to merely a building that would house all of the events but to also blend it into the outdoors and therefore create a landscape that would begin to play with this idea. The theme of transmission came from wanting this event to be shared with other places and for it to take a life of its own in a broadcast that would tie others together
